THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND A DISTINCT AND ELITE ASSEMBLAGE. THEY ARE SERVANTS OF THE LORD. Serving Him in a very special capacity. They have been singled out for a ministry that others will not be able to perform. Rev. 7:3 As servants, they will be in close proximity, at all times, to their Lord and Master. One who would serve their master must be in His presence willing to follow Him wherever He goes. They who serve the Lord in this fashion will be greatly honored of the Father. John 12:26 The servants of the Lord must have been set free from sin in order to properly serve the Lord. Their fruit is that of holiness and their ultimate is eternal life with the Lord. Rom. 6:22 These who are chosen to fulfill the plan of the Lord will be the possessors of the righteousness and holiness of the Almighty, the servant will be identical to his master. Their protection and deliverance is assured. They are indeed < untouchable >. Isa. 54:17 THEY ARE A SEALED PEOPLE. The mark, the seal of the Lord to be placed in their foreheads. This is done for identification and protection. They are set apart and signified as members of this very important segment of the Bride of Christ. Rev. 7:3 This is in contrast to the fact that following this the antichrist will develop a system of his own that will require a stamp or signet, { no doubt an image of himself}, to be inscribed in the hands or foreheads of all who would do any kind of merchandising. Rev. 13:16-17 This very unique group of sealed ones are seen again as those who accompany the Lamb. They remain in close affinity with the Lord Jesus, the Lamb of God. The seal is described as being a name. The name of the Lord Jesus Christ which is the name of the Son of God. The Father has also given Jesus His name, which is LORD. Rev. 14:1 HIS NAME IS INVOKED UPON US IN WATER BAPTISM. The command was that converts were to be baptized in the NAME of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. Mt. 28:19 What is His name? Father, Son and Holy Ghost are titles and not names. Our God does have a NAME and responds when we use His NAME in prayer. Note the pattern of baptisms in the Acts of the Apostles. {1}. IN THE NAME, Of the LORD JESUS. Acts 2:38 {2}. In the NAME of JESUS. Acts 8:12 {3}. In the NAME of the LORD JESUS. Acts 8:16 {4}. In the NAME of the LORD. Acts 10:48 {5}. In the NAME of the LORD JESUS. Some texts have the full NAME of the LORD JESUS CHRIST in these scriptures. A very strong pattern emerges from the Acts that the early church fully honored the command and baptized in the NAME of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is a triune name, by which the Triunity of the Bible may be identified and fully known. God is everything that His name implies. The thoughts presented here are not intended to associate with any one particular group or organization but rather, to present a truth that is presented to us throughout the scriptures. It is a subject that is worthy of all considerations. His name is above every name that is named. THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 2 THEIR ORIGINS. They are descendants of the twelve tribes of Israel. Twelve thousand from each tribe. Rev. 7:4-8 As scattered, mixed and mingled as the tribes of Israel are today, if the Lord holds to the letter of the word and requires that these people be literal descendants of Israel, we can rest assured that He will find them. They are chosen to accomplish a spiritual service required by the Lord. WHO IS A JEW? Heed the words of one who was a Hebrew of the Hebrews. A Jew, under New Testament economy, is not a Jew simply because he has been born into Israel. Paul differentiated very strongly between one who is of the flesh and one who is of the spirit. The flesh, with the sign of circumcision, the natural man, Paul states; is not a Jew. The sign of one who is a Jew, is still circumcision, but not of the flesh, rather of the spirit. A work that is done in the heart, inwardly. A time when the heart is changed and the old life becomes extinct. The New Life in Christ Jesus is now in control and reigns supremely. Rom. 2:28-29 Being born of the flesh, regardless of race or creed, does not automatically include an individual as a child of God. Jesus said; You must be born again. That which is received and accepted by the Lord must be children of His promise. That promise is life eternal in the Lord Jesus. Rom. 9:8 WHAT TRANSACTIONS COUNT WITH THE LORD? Neither circumcision, in the flesh, nor uncircumcission have any value before the Lord. Only a new creature has any merit whatsoever with the Lord. The new man will loose the religiosity of his old ways. For in Christ, the fleshly divisions of race cease to exist, the church is no longer Jew or Greek, circumcision or uncircumcision, but Christ reigns supreme and is manifesting the life of that new man. Col. 3:11 The new man is in a process of alteration and spiritual change. Becoming knowledgeable in the Word and teachings of Christ. The ultimate purpose of the Lord is that He might have a people who are in the total image and complete likeness of their Lord. Col. 3:10 ADOPTION. Frequently, much to do is made because of the adoption of sons that is ours in Christ Jesus. All who are new creatures in Christ are members of the great family of believers. Therefore if the Lord continues to maintain the twelve tribe order, every one in Christ is a member of the tribes, by proper and legal adoption. Gal. 4:5 Interestingly, the original twelve tribe race who are the descendants of Abraham were also adopted. Rom. 9:4 Abram was a Syrian, until the Lord called Him, adopted him and made of him a great nation. Deut. 26:5 It is the choice of the Lord made by His call that will elevate one into the great and wonderful family of the Lord. The one hundred forty-four thousand are very choice servants of the Lord. We might note also that the scripture does not state that the one hundred forty-four thousand are evangelist preaching during the tribulation period. THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 3 CHOSEN AND SEALED. A people chosen by the Lord. They had not chosen Him, the choice was His and His alone. Not only chosen but ordained, appointed to be fruitful. A chosen person or persons will always be fruit bearing and produce much fruit. John 15:16 Those who are in close proximity to the Lord Jesus have a certain character about them, they are called to be saints, they have been invited. They are chosen, selected. Favorite ones and faithful, believers and trustworthy. They are a group who will not be turned aside from following the Lord. Rev. 17:14 The one who is about to seal them is ASCENDING from the East or the sunrising. He comes from the rising light or the dawn. He is about to place the seal, the signet of God upon the one hundred forty-four thousand. Separating them, fencing them off as an act of security. Letting it be know that they are set apart and very special to the one whose seal they wear. Rev. 7:2 All judgments are suspended until these who are special servants are sealed unto the Lord. Rev. 7:3 THEY STAND WITH THE LAMB. They stand beside Him on Mount Sion. Rev. 14:1 They call on the name of the Lord, recognizing the worth and power of that name. For in His name, and in His name alone is to be found deliverance. They are His in a very unique way. Joel 2:32 Zion is the chosen of the Lord. It is that special place that He has chosen for His eternal dwelling place. This is the place of rest and tranquillity for Him. It is that which He has DESIRED. This is the place of His throne. Ps. 132:13-14 THIS IS HIS CITY. Here we find the true Holy City. His throne. His dwelling place. His bride, of which the one hundred forty-four thousand are members. This is the heavenly, the real Jerusalem, not that which is but a shadow, such as is that which is natural. This is His City, the City where the Lord has chosen to take up His abode forever. The value and importance of this City cannot be over emphasized. It is one of a kind. There never has been one that can compare to it, nor will there ever be. This is the city that Abraham was seeking when he first started out. It is the City where life lives and that life is imparted to all who dwell there. Heb. 12:22 How beautifully He identifies it by calling it < THE CHURCH OF THE FIRSTBORN >. All of whom have their names recorded in the Lambs book of life. They are the spiritual, the righteous, those who have reached the perfection that is in Christ. Heb. 12:23 They live by virtue of the New Covenant. They have been washed in the precious, sin cleansing blood of the Lamb. Their trust is fully based on the Lord Jesus. He is everything and all to them. Heb. 12:24 That which is a stumbling stone to the old order is the chief foundation to that which is new. While they trip up and fall, the church builds on Christ the true foundation. With great confidence that He does all things well we can place our utter trust in Christ, knowing that He is building that which is everlasting and eternal. That which will never cease nor grow old. Rom. 9:33 THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 4 A NAME WRITTEN. Many versions of the Bible include < his name and his Fathers name >, which is correct. God in His Triunity has chosen that His name would reveal the unity of the Godhead. To invoke and seal them with that divine name is to place the fullness of His protection upon them. It is a proclamation of ownership and possession. They are totally sheltered by the authority and power of the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Rev. 14:1 STANDING ON MOUNT SION. Their location is high on mount Sion. Like the shining forth of a volcano or a fire on the peak of a mountain, they shine forth and are visible from afar. Prominent and outstanding. They are important to the Lamb. This is the city that is set on the hill of the Lord. Mt. 5:14 The Lamb is surrounded by this very special group. We have seen the importance of mount Sion to the New Testament church. It is founded on Christ the rock of ages. Rom. 9:33 It is the church of the first born. It is the eternal city of the living God. Heb 12:22-24 It is the New Jerusalem. It is the bride who has prepared herself. She has beautified herself and has been glorified by the Lord. Rev. 21:2 She is plainly identified as the Bride, the wife of the Lamb. Rev. 21:9 She is the greatest city that ever has been or ever will be. She is holy and comes from God. He is the architect and builder. Rev. 21:10 She is the woman of the intense glory of God. The city of great light and glory. Rev. 21:11 The same woman as seen in Revelation twelve. The one hundred forty-four thousand are a segment of that bride and that city. Whatever their racial background they belong to the Bride of the Lamb, to the New Jerusalem and to the New Testament church. THE LAMB IS TO BE MARRIED. This is certainly an important teaching to the body of Christ, and in particular to we who are living in the end of the age. This will shock some, but the marriage of the Lamb is of greater importance to the church than His Second Coming. For the simple reason that it comes FIRST. The woman of Revelation twelve is married and has been for a sufficient length of time to give birth to the manchild. The events that are recorded there are those which introduce the great tribulation period. All Christians who have prepared themselves to be in the bride will be removed into a place prepared for her, by God. Rev. 12:6 While that place is called a wilderness, it is speaking only of its location. It will be located in a desolate and solitary place but because of the presence of the Lord will be anything but waste and empty. Here is a bit of insight, which will give us an idea of the glory of that wilderness. The Bride is comforted. The wilderness to which she was taken will be like the garden of Eden. How fitting, the first Adam and Eve were in a garden. The last Adam and Eve will also be in a garden. A place of singing, joy, rejoicing and thanksgiving. Certainly not a place of hardship and difficulties or this sort of gladness and praise would not be practiced by the inhabitants of the wilderness. Isa. 51:3 Every need will be abundantly supplied. What a glorious experience. THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 5 A NEW SONG IS A SIGNAL OF A GREAT EVENT. The sound of a NEW SONG is not unusual in heaven. That it is used as the evidence of an outstanding moment is obvious from the song of those who will be in close proximity to the throne. The cause for this song is the ability of the Lamb to open the seals which usher in the last days. It is a song of His worthiness and His act of redemption which is extended to all mankind. Special emphasis is placed on the offering of His BLOOD and the purchase of the souls of men, through His sacrifice on Calvary. They have excellent reason to offer thanksgiving in their song for they have been exhalted to be the kingdom of God and to reign and serve as priests. Rev. 5:9-10 This will have to be the largest songfest ever. It is joined by a myriad of angels. v.11 By EVERY creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth and on and in the sea. From the language used here this would include ALL of mankind who have ever existed. v.13 Their song concerns the worthiness of the Lamb and is a sevenfold hymn of all that He is and those things which are becoming to one who is so admirable. v.12 THE NEW SONG. The new song is a song of triumph and great victory. It is sung unto the Lord because of His glorious works and the manifestation of His mighty hand and the revelation of His holy arm in salvation. Ps. 98:1 It is an ode unto the Lord lifting high the Word of the Lord. Declaring His righteousness and the showing forth of His goodness which fills the whole earth, even the most unworthy are participants of His daily supply to the inhabitants of the earth. Ps. 33:3-5 Most fitting, the new song will be heard in the wilderness, the place of refuge for the Bride during the tribulation period. His praises will be extolled with great fervor and excitement. Those who inhabit the rock, Christ Jesus, will sing and shout from the mountain tops. Isa. 42:10-11. Every new song is a praise sounding from the redeemed of the Lord. The Israel of God rejoices in Him and finds the satisfaction of joy in her new song about Him and directed to Him. Ps. 149:1-2 The new song is a song sung under the anointing of the Spirit in which the Lord is exalted on high. SINGING TO THE LORD A NEW SONG. A special song sung only by the one hundred forty-four thousand, for they are a special people. A unique portion of the Bride of Christ. It is a song that is to be sung in the throne presence of the Lord. Because of its nature, it is a song limited to be sung only by this group. While its contents are not revealed we must know that it is a song of fresh revelation glorifying the Lamb of God, the Lord Jesus. Its contents must pertain to the depths of the God like love that will exist between Christ and His Bride. An anthem of adoration and worship such as has never been sung. Would there be any doubt but what this is a true composition of the Spirit and that it will be sung in the unity of the Spirit? What a glorious sound this will create in heaven. THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 6 UNDEFILED AND UNSPOTTED. This company of individuals have two outstanding and distinguishing characteristics about them which separate them from others. In order for them to be in this company they must posses certain qualifications. In the first place they are women and of necessity must be virgins. The Greek word used here is parthenos. A parthenos is described as a woman living under the protection and care of her fathers house. Rev. 14:4 The Bible gives evidence of a number of miraculous births. The one most outstanding and closely related to this was MARY, the mother of Jesus. Isaiah had prophesied of the virgin who would conceive and birth the man who was to be called Immanuel, or God with us. Isa.7:14 The angel of the Lord made reference to this prophecy when assuring Joseph that this was all of the hand of the Lord. Mt. 1:23 A virgin birth is not impossible with God. With whom there are no impossibilities. If scientists can produce a pregnancy, even to cloning, how much more God. The virgin birth should be more acceptable today than ever before. The Lord produced another miraculous birth in those days. Zacharias and Elisabeth were both descendants of the priesthood and were themselves Godly living people. They were faithful in serving the Lord. They were also beyond the age of child bearing. Once again the Lord is about to do the impossible. They are to become the parents of John the Baptist. Once again it is the angel of the Lord who proclaims to the father to be, just exactly what shall be. There is no question but what the Lord rules and reigns amongst men and does that which is according to His own will. He has established His ultimate goal and has been working toward the accomplishment of the same. THE TIMING OF THE LORD IS ALWAYS RIGHT. God promised Abraham that he would be the progenitor of great nations, but did not immediately fulfill His promise to him. Gen. 17:6 The Lord waited until it was physically impossible for Abraham and Sarah to have children. Then the Lord performed a miracle and rejuvenated their old bodies so that they could produce Isaac. Gen. 17:17 This revitalization came about by the Lord taking the letter H out of His own name (JHVH, or Jehovah) and inserting it in the name of Abraham and Sarah. The letter H is the eighth letter in the Hebrew alphabet. Eight is the number of resurrection. In this fashion the Lord interjected His resurrection life into them and they became fruitful. Isaac had to pray for Rebekah his wife to bear children for she was barren. The Lord heard and Esau and Jacob were born to them. Gen. 25:25-26 The wife of Jacob, likewise bore him no children until the Lord intervened. Gen. 30:22-23 The Lord was building a dynasty and made certain that all involved in that Godly lineage must acknowledge that it was the hand of the Lord that made them who and what they were. The ultimate purpose of the Lord will be accomplished through Christ and His Bride. That which to man is not possible will be consummated by the Lord. THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 7 CONTAMINATED? These were not defiled with women, does not make them to be men. Rev. 14:4 Especially in the light of the fact that they have been declared to be virgins, (Gr. parthenos) in an absolute sense, as was the virgin Mary. Mt. 1:23 What defiles a woman but is right and proper? Marriage. A married woman, even though a widow could not be the wife of a priest, for to him, she was defiled or no longer a virgin. The priest must marry a virgin. Lev. 21:14 To the priest any woman other than a virgin was not to become his wife, to him she was defiled, but only to him. The one hundred forty-four thousand are not men who have not defiled themselves with relationships with women. They are women who have not been defiled after the manner of women, that is, even in marriage. This is not saying that marriage defiles, but only as far as marriage with a priest was concerned. FIRSTFRUITS. We are introduced to firstfruits in relationship to what was called the feast of harvest (harvest, Hebrew, qatsiyr, harvest, bough or branch). It was also called the feast of ingathering. Ex. 23:16 The first ripe fruit was brought to, and dedicated to the Lord. It was the general harvest of the fruits and crops of the land. It was also in the end of the year. Both of which are significant of the end of the age being harvest time. The feasts of Israel were celebrations of joy and gladness. Deut. 26:10-11 Each feast has its < firstfruits > offering. Lev. 23 There was a constant emphasis on the firstfruits, showing its importance to the Lord. The firstfruits were always the best and the choicest of the crop, certainly the one hundred forty-four thousand will not be one bit less. Num. 18:12 The Lord considered Israel to be the firstfruits of His increase. The joy and delight of His heart and His love. Jer. 2:3 Today we have the firstfruits of His Spirit in our lives awaiting the time of the resurrection of our bodies. Rom. 8:23 Christ is the firstfruit of the resurrection. 1 Cor. 15:23 Those who are born of the Word of Truth are a firstfruit unto the Lord. James 1:18 Where there is a firstfruit, there will be an increase, a harvest and an ingathering of fruit like unto the firstfruit. The firstfruit was not the end of the harvest but as its name implies the very beginning, that which burst forth, well ripened but ahead of the ingathering that was to follow. In particular, they are brought into existence < unto God > and unto the LAMB. We have previously noted their beautiful affinity with the LAMB, for they are His constant companions wherever He goes. While they, are obviously a separate entity, they are still very much members of the Body of Christ, His Bride. The experience of one member of His body will be the experience of the whole body. The glory and the majesty with which the Lord will clothe His Bride is to be enjoyed by the whole. The birth of the manchild, the persecution, the flight will create the same feeling for all who are blended together in that beautiful unity and oneness that is prevalent in the Bride. She will be in perfect harmony with her husband and lover. Her deliverance is assured. Rev. 12 THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 8 THE PREEMINENCE OF THE LAMB. The Father has established His Son as < His king > on the Holy hill of Sion, in His City, the New Jerusalem. Ps. 2:6 Sharing with Him will be His Bride and that very special group and member of the body of Christ. Rev. 14:1 While the Lord saves us as individuals and deals with each and every one of us singularly, it is in His good pleasure to bind His people together as one. As a unit, we are called , < His body >. The body is necessary to usher in the finished purpose of the Lord. She is that which brings completion to Him. Eph. 1:23 From the beginning, the Lord created male and female, that they might be one. The Son is not complete without His Bride. In a time when such great emphasis is made concerning the physical condition of the human body, we need to realize that the same is vitally true concerning the spiritual body, the wife of the Lamb. She will be the epitome of spirituality, enjoying perfect health, living in harmony and unity with each member of the body, in absolute and perfect coordination without even an inkling of division. All in perfect compatibility and fully living the life portrayed by the scripture. No fault, blemish or lack of any kind may be found in her. It is indeed in every sense of the word a perfect bride. Eph. 5:27 SAYINGS OF TRUTH. Always a cause for joy and gladness. The time of the marriage of the Lamb has come and His Bride has made herself ready. We need to emphasize the fact that SHE has prepared herself. Her instructions are in the Word of the Lord. She knows perfectly well what is expected of her and she will respond accordingly. Rev. 19:7 She is clothed as no other bride has ever been arrayed. Her bridal gown is an original. It can never be duplicated for it is the righteousness of the Almighty. Beautiful beyond all description, Rev. 19:8 She is clothed with very God Himself. The light, the majesty, the glory of the Lord is her garment. We see her beauty in Rev. 12. Those who are in attendance are those who receive a special invitation, they are called of the Lord. Rev. 19:9 A SPIRITUAL CITY WITHOUT A TEMPLE. There is no need for such a structure in this city. Actually, the whole city, in its entirety, is the place of worship. This city is more than a physical entity. It is the awesome presence of the Lord God Almighty and His Son, the Lamb of God. Its occupants will all live by the power of life and the Holy Spirit. The physical sources of light necessary for life on earth will no longer exist. Replacing them will be the glory of the Lord and that blessed light that emanates from the Lamb of God. The constant flow of the power of the Spirit will be in all who dwell there. The excitement and thrill of the Spirit will never diminish nor cease. Pure, uncontaminated worship and praise will be the order of every moment. Time will cease and bored we will never be. Rev. 21:22-23 THE ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 9 THE ULTIMATE, THE COMPLETION OF THE PURPOSE OF THE LORD. The Lord is the author and creator of new things. This present universe and world is destined for oblivion and is to be replaced by an entirely new heavens and a new earth. From the very beginning of our spiritual journey and experience we are made new creatures in Christ Jesus. The new heavens and new earth will never be contaminated by sin, sickness or death. It is the abode of all that is eternal. Beginning with an eternal God and Father to each and every occupant, they are all beings of life everlasting. Rev. 21:5 THE BRIDE. The New Jerusalem is the bride of Christ. She is a being of extreme, perfect and absolute beauty. Her splendor and elegance is equal with that of the Lord himself. She is totally < prepared>. Rev. 21:2 How vital that is. To be ready for the most magnificent wedding of time and eternity. Surely, the very prospect of such an occasion would stir the deepest emotions of our spiritual nature. What a marvelous privilege to be come bone of His bone and flesh of His flesh. To be united with Him in marriage. The only union of two completely similar beings. A glorious wedding for glorified creatures. Eph. 5:27 As difficult as it is for some to receive, the wedding of Christ and His church is the next important even scheduled by the Lord for His people. The preparation of herself must be the imperative and concern of the church today. There will be a people who are ready for that day when it dawns, regardless of where others stand spiritually. Rev. 19:7 Each and every one of us are fully responsible for our own preparedness. The Bridal gown is a gift from the Bridegroom. Its value is priceless beyond measure. It is not something that has any other origin but very God Himself. It is that fine shining linen, so brilliant and pure. A condition that God and God alone can create. The holiness and purity of this Godly marriage is equal to the righteousness of the Lord Almighty. There is no contamination. All impurities will have been utterly removed. Rev. 19:8 THE HIGHEST STANDARD OF HOLINESS APPLIED TO THE BRIDE. There is no compromise to be found in this Bride. She is wholly dedicated to the Lord and to the execution of His perfect will. His desires are hers. She will submit to each and every suggestion of holy living that He will present to her. Sanctification is not a strange word to her. She is in total submission to the Word of the Lord and it is the element that is used to sanctify her. Her cleansing is absolute. Her submission is complete. Her cleansing is perfect until there is no contamination to be found in her. SHE IS THE EPITOME OF ALL THAT IS GLORIOUS. Her glory is the glory of the Lord. A gift which He has bestowed on her. Eph. 5:25-26 She is to be the show piece of heaven for eternity. Loved and displaying the mighty effects of that great and marvelous love of God. Eph. 2:6-7 THE ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY FOUR THOUSAND. 10 THE ALL IMPORTANT WALL OF THE CITY. The wall and the city are measured. There is nothing in the city that is not measured and required to comply to the measurement established. The measuring rod that is used is of pure gold, there is no higher measurement than the Lord Jesus. He is the one who will measure His people. Rev. 21:15 The wall itself bears the number of our study as it was to be one hundred and forty-four cubits. Inasmuch as the city is foursquare it would seem logical that the wall would likewise be foursquare. Its thickness matching its height. Rev. 21:17 The unit of measurement was to be that of a man. What other man than THE MAN CHRIST JESUS. All things spiritual and scriptural must meet His divine standards. He came as a man, subject to all the temptations of a man, to set an example for all men. In Him, we can be victorious. Paul issued the challenge when he said, < Till we ALL come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the son of God, unto a PERFECT MAN, unto the MEASURE of the STATURE of the FULNESS OF CHRIST >. Eph. 4:11 THE CITY OF GOD IS COMPOSED OF PERFECTED SAINTS. The Lord does not establish standards that are too difficult to be met. True, they are difficult and impossible for the natural, carnal man but for the spiritual man, all things are possible. The ministry gifts have been given to the church to consolidate, to bring together, to unify the body of Christ. The true test of a move of the Spirit is unity. Unity of the faith, (belief, doctrine, persuasion). Their comprehension and knowledge of the Son of God will all be equal and the same. Not only the wall, but the whole city will be comprised of people who have measured up to the stature of Christ Jesus. Eph. 4:12-13 There will be none in the New Jerusalem who have not fulfilled the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. A DESCRIPTION OF THE WALL. It will be a great, immense wall. High, soaring and elevated. In other words, extremely impressive, and that is an understatement. There are to be twelve gates, each gate watched over by a messenger or a pastor. The word aggello (Greek) is not confined to an angel but can be a messenger of any title or position in the church. Jesus is the door, men anointed of the Holy Ghost, those who bring good tidings, are keepers of the door, not angels. It is of interest to note that each side has three doors. Significant of the Triunity. Rev. 21:12-13 The wall, had twelve foundations. The church is built upon the teaching and doctrines of the Apostles of the Lamb. In other words, the first twelve whom the Lord chose. Rev. 21:14 We see here the twenty-four elders represented by the foundations and the watchmen of the doors, (The twelve latter day Apostles) who are revealed as the twelve stars of the leadership of the church by the twelve stars in the crown of the Woman, the Bride of Christ. Rev. 12:1 THE ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 11 THE FATHERHOOD OF GOD. Through His act of creation, the Lord is the Father of all humanity. Lovingly, kindly, gently and no doubt with much anticipation He formed, (molded, shaped) man from the dust of the earth. He then breathed into the nostrils of man the < BREATH OF LIFE >, which can only originate from God Himself. The form which he had shaped could only live by the breath of very God, or the life of the Lord, which is spirit. It was the divine inspiration of the Spirit of the Lord, that imparted intellgence, the ability to be motivated physically, intellectually and spiritually. Causing Adam to become a living soul. Gen. 2:7 The Lord has created and placed within the human body an amazing process, the ability to reproduce. Again, it is the by the miracle working power of the Lord that there is formed in the womb another human being. Ecc. 11:5 Like it parents, perhaps resembling them in many ways, yet a distinct individual. A person who possesses many characteristics that are uniquely theirs, such as, DNA, finger prints, voice, eyes, and so forth. Only God could place into the procedure of the formation of the human body such a vast variety of differences which identify each person as a distinct individual. No two persons have the same identification marks. God is still involved in the formation and birth of each and every individual born into this world. MAN CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF THE LORD. It must be noted that in His pronouncement of the creation of man like Himself, the Lord used a pronoun that is plural, twice. Let US make man in OUR image. While the Father received the preeminence, the fullness of the Godhead was involved. Gen. 1:26 Note the involvement of the Son, the Lord Jesus. BY HIM ALL things were created. FOR HIM ALL things were created. Col. 1:16 There is not an act of God but what the fullness of the Godhead is involved. The unity of the Triunity is perfect and absolute. There is not even the slightest hint of a division, breach or separation in the Godhead. We are created in HIS IMAGE. Therefore we know that God is a Triune being. We are triune in nature, spirit, soul and body. Each of which is identified by the Word of God. 1 Thes. 5:23 Being triune in nature we are still one in person. God created one man, the man named Adam. Adam lay before the Lord, lifeless until He breathed into him that glorious breath of life. Man lived when he became a triune being. The totality of what man was to be then became evident, physically man became an image of what God is, Spiritually and in actuality. God is a Spirit. John 4:23-24 The Father seeks those who will worship Him according to His nature and being. That is, in and by the Spirit. The Father, as Spirit, is not none existent. In existence, it is the Spirit which is eternal and everlasting. The flesh is that which will die and return to the dust of the earth. That which possesses reality is the Spirit. The Father is reality personified. Nothing else in creation can measure up to Him nor does it possess eternal life unless He grants it to them. That which is Spiritual is the only reality in the whole of time or the universe. Reality does not exist outside of the Lord. THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 12 GOD WAS MARRIED TO ISRAEL. He plainly stated that He, as their creator was also their husband. Isa. 54:5 The one who, in the first place had brought them into being through His original creation, Adam and Eve. Then had called their forefathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to be a race dedicated to Himself. They were to be His bride and to be the people who would bring forth His Son, the Redeemer. He called her unto Himself. Seeking a people who would consecrate themselves unto Him. To be totally and completely dedicated unto Him. Ps. 45:10 Her commitment to Him was considered to be a thing of great beauty. More than appearance, the Lord seeks after those whose hearts are < sold out > unto Him. He is a covenant making God and desires His people to keep His covenant with them. His heart is greatly moved by the obedience of those who are His very own. Ps. 45:11 I AM MARRIED UNTO YOU. This was the confession of the Lord as stated in Jer. 3:14 We can only guess at and imagine the feelings of the heart of the Lord in dealing with a people who were constantly going astray and seeking after other gods. Rest assured that if we can be moved emotionally and find ourselves deeply stirred by another human being with whom we are in love, The Lord is moved in a greater measure. He is LOVE. His love is true, pure and strong. His disappointment can be measured with the same measure, and He was constantly being saddened because of their attitudes toward Him. He called them as a backsliden, apostate, idolatrous people to return unto Him. So wicked had she become in her backsliding that the Lord gave her a bill of divorce. His separation from her was legal and proper because of her adulteries. Jer. 3:8 THE COMMUNION AND FELLOWSHIP OF THE LORD. Rather than on a national basis the Lord was to change His association with mankind and make it to be on an individual status. Jer. 3:14 Salvation is not to a nation, a city, or a tribe but as a single person the Lord now deals with us. The destination is Zion, not the earthly but the heavenly, for it alone is eternal. He declared that by one and two He would gather a people together. They will not originate from one nation but from all nations of the world. These are to be pastored, shepherdized and fed the Word of the Lord. They will be a people who are filled with the knowledge and comprehension of the Lord. Jer. 3:15 These are a people who do not worship the Lord after the pattern of the Tabernacle and Temple. They are not under Law, but under grace. Jer. 3:16 Their dwelling place is the New Jerusalem. They worship before the throne of God which is situated in that city. Jer. 3:17 Judah and Israel will be recognized and unified in that day, that is those who have followed fully the ways of the Lord. This is not a natural or simply a physical occurrence but is a work of the Spirit of the Lord in bringing to pass a people who love Him with all of their hearts. For an inheritance in the Lord. Jer. 3:18 THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 12 THE MIRACLE OF RENEWED CAPABILITIES. The power and virtue of a name change. The Lord took a letter from His own name JHVH and inserted it in the name of Abram, (high father). Changing his name to Abraham (father of a multitude). Gen. 17:5 The name of his wife was changed from Sarai (ruler) to (princess or queen). The letter h, which He used is the in Hebrew. It is the eighth letter in the Hebrew alphabet and is significant of resurrection and revival. Isaac was born of parents that were as < good as dead >. Heb. 11:12 The impossible became the fact by the power and virtue of the promises of the Lord. ALL THINGS are possible to those who believe. Mark 9:23 The Lord is unlimited in all of His intents and designs. He will accomplish all that He has promised in His Word. In Abraham and Sarah the Lord started to build a dynasty that would be eternal and everlasting. MESSIANIC CAPABILITIES. Jesus is the continuation of that reign which will rule from the New Jerusalem in the ages to come. Jesus, born in a miraculous manner. Born of a virgin. Not after the will of man but after the divine will and intent of God the Father. To accomplish His will the Lord has and will bypass the usual to do the unusual. Among the titles given Christ In the great prophetic utterance of His birth and subsequent ministries is one that is extremely interesting. He will be the < everlasting Father >. This has no reference to any other person, except the Lord Jesus Christ. He is destined to be a Father. He is not the Father of the redeemed. As our redeemer He is granted many titles and positions but never is He called our Father. Even so, He is called the everlasting Father. Isa. 9:6 The word is as eternal as eternal can be meant to mean. It bears the connotation of perpetuity, eternal, world without end. It is not intended to portray Him as the Father of eternity, but to be just exactly what He is declared to be, the everlasting Father. OF THE INCREASE OF HIS GOVERNMENT, THERE SHALL BE NO END. Isa. 9:7 It is extremely difficult to obtain opinions pertaining to the previous statement and this one. Most commentaries seem to ignore them. They are vital and of great importance, else the Lord would never have Isaiah record them. The Lord is eternal. Everything about Him is everlasting. He has never ceased to exist and have being, nor will He ever. All that He accomplishes is for eternity. He builds for that which shall never end. Therefore it is not strange to read that of the increase, the growth and expansion of His domain and empire there will be no end. The responsibility of leadership and government is to be on His shoulders. The high priest bore the twelve stones with the twelve names of the tribes of Israel on His shoulders. So, the Lord Jesus, the great shepherd, our High Priest, our Governor will be responsible for the establishment of an eternal government and an eternal nation. THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 13 WHERE IS THE HOUSE OF THE LORD? There are a great variety of physical buildings to which men have applied the title, < the house of the Lord >. Yet it is necessary for Him to ask the question, < where is the house that ye build unto me >? Isa. 66:1 He is seeking a place that is everlasting, a habitation where he may cease from His labors and find rest, (Hebrew, Menuwchah, a resting place, a place of peace or marriage). That which pleases Him has not yet been constructed. It is currently in the process of creation. Rather than the material things of this earth He is searching for the spiritual, the eternal. He plainly declared His choice to be Zion. She is the desire and longing of His heart for His eternal dwelling place. The Lord has proclaimed Her to be that place of His habitation and dwelling place. Ps. 132:13-14 IS IT NATURAL SION OR SPIRITUAL SION? Our God is a Spirit and those who worship Him must do so in Spirit and in Truth. The natural buildings, the tabernacle and the temple were but types and shadows of that which is the original and eternal. Heb. 8:5 What shall we choose? The shadow or the real thing? By the Spirit, we today, are privileged to enter into and to worship in that which is heavenly and everlasting. The only city that the Lord will and may accept as His dwelling place, is the true, the spiritual. That which is built on the chief corner stone, the Lord Jesus, and is composed of lively stones. 1 Pet. 2:5-6 There are two simple, yet of vital necessity, requirements expressed by Isaiah for acceptance in this company. The first is, a Christ like spirit of humility, tenderness and broken before the Lord. The second is a profound respect and appreciation for the Word of the Lord. These are they whom the Lord will use to build a habitation for Himself. Isa. 66:2 Very emphatically the Word states that the Lord is not the least bit interested in temples made by the hands of men. Acts 7:48 THE TRUE TEMPLE PROCLAIMED BY THE LORD. You are the temple of the living God. A straightforward and positive statement made by the Lord. The Lord is developing a lively, active, consecrated and dedicated temple composed of the redeemed, the blood washed and Spirit filled. The invitation to participate in that temple is as personal as it can possibly be. His determination is to personally live IN His church and to walk IN His church. To be their God, with all His abilities and manifestation of power and exceeding great glory. He is looking for them to be His people, totally and unequivocally dedicated and surrendered to Him. A people who are in love with Him and Him alone. Their thoughts and desires are all directed towards Him. Their undivided attention is always focused on Him. Their whole being is committed to the Lord Jesus and their absolute devotion is centered on Him and Him alone. He is their God and they are His people. It cannot be any other way. 2 Cor. 6:16 THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 14 THE LORD WILL NOT ACCEPT ANIMAL SACRIFICES. His feelings and attitude are amply expressed, even in the Old Testament. Hear the Word of the Lord. The following is as powerful a < THUS SAITH THE LORD > and a prophetic voice as any that may be expressed. The Lord said concerning the multitudinous of sacrifices, < WHAT ARE THEY TO ME? > NIV. I am full, I have had sufficient. I have no pleasure, I delight not in them. Isa. 1:11. Bring NO MORE, vain and meaningless offerings. Your incense is an abomination, detestable to me. Cease your special, holy days, they are iniquity, evil unto me. I hate them, I am weary of them. When your hands are spread in prayer, I will not hear, I will hide my eyes from seeing you. Your hands are filled with blood. Isa 1:13-15 They are commanded to wash, be clean, have a changed attitude. Reason with the Lord and He will receive them. Only repentance and the acceptance of the way of the Lord is acceptable in His sight. Isa. 1:16-18 HEAR AND CONSIDER CAREFULLY THE THOUGHTS OF THE LORD. These ARE HIS THOUGHTS CONCERNING ANIMAL SACRIFICES. That which was acceptable under the LAW is NO LONGER to be offered nor is it permissible, or pleasing to the Lord. The slaying of an ox as a sacrifice to the Lord is EQUAL to murder. The presentation and slaying of a lamb, is paramount to cutting off a dogs neck as a sacrifice. This too is totally unacceptable and is most reprehensible to the Lord. Those bringing a gift, under the Law, are offering the blood of a swine to the Lord, how repulsive to Him. The burning of incense, in any religion, is compared to the worship of an idol. To practice any of these is obnoxious in the fullest degree to the Lord. It is a declaration of the rebellion of their hearts and a choice, by them, of ignoring the Lord and doing their own thing. They have chosen to work their own abominations before the Lord. Isa. 66:3 ANIMAL SACRIFICES < CAN NEVER > TAKE AWAY OUR SINS. How futile to even believe and teach that they can in any way be effective in the removal of sin, when they never have. Note the < can never > of Hebrews ten. The priesthood stood daily offering the same sacrifices but they were in vain. For they can never take away sins. Heb. 10:11 The decades of continuous offerings, under the Law were futile, for their offerings yearly, year after year, < can never > bring them to perfection. Heb. 10:1 The OLD is to be replaced by the NEW covenant. The Old has been liquidated, never to be reinstated. The OLD has been proven ineffective and lacking the ability to forgive and cleanse man from sin. The NEW has been activated and is busy producing eternal life in all those who believe and put their trust in the true sacrifice of God, the Fathers only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus. Heb. 8:13 The NEW is administered by a more excellent ministry, the Lord Jesus. The NEW is by far the better covenant, it is effectively producing eternal life in those who accept it. Its promises are not only better but they are the very best. None better could be made. Heb. 8:8 THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 16 THE CONTRAST OF THE TWO JERUSALEMS. THE EXISTING CITY. THE OLD CITY. The history of the birth of the sons of Abraham is made into an allegory by Paul. In which he reversed the spiritual status of the two covenants, the two women and the two sons. In which, the one which now is, became the natural, earthly, the city of the old covenant. Illustrated by Ishmael and Hagar. According to Paul, the earthly city which they represented exemplified bondage. Hagar was a slave, a bondwoman. Her son was born after the will of the flesh, the natural, the carnal. The covenant which was imparted from mount Sinai speaks of bondage and is declared to be Hagar or the Jerusalem which is currently in existence and is in bondage with her children. Gal. 4:22-25 What does the scripture say? Cast out the bond woman and her son. Remember, Hagar and Ishmael are being used by Paul as representing Israel and Jerusalem. The bond woman and her son will not be heirs of God. Gal. 4:30 In the plan and purpose of the Lord for today all, Jew and Gentile, all must be a part of the NEW JERUSALEM. Jesus said, to the old city, your house is left unto you desolate. Mt. 21:38 He likewise made many other statements showing that His interest was in the NEW. THE CITY TO COME. NEW JERUSALEM, THE ETERNAL CITY. It is that which is from above and is the mother of the redeemed in Christ Jesus. That which is NEW, is FREE, liberated and serving the Lord in the freedom and liberty of the Spirit. The son of the freewoman which was Isaac, was the one who was born after the promise of the Lord. Gal. 4:23 Sarah being she who exemplified the New Jerusalem which is the heavenly city and is the mother of us all. The redeemed in Christ are counted as being the children of promise, or the children of the New Covenant which is sealed by the blood of Jesus. This is the one and only covenant acknowledged by the Lord. Gal. 4:28, 31 A REFERENCE TO A PROPHECY BY ISAIAH. This one who is called < mother of us all > is the New Jerusalem, the Bride of Christ. Gal. 4:27 Yet she is declared to be barren or childless. Even so, she will rejoice, break forth and cry aloud, for the children of the childless woman shall be more than the woman with a husband. The woman never having given birth will find her husband to be her creator. Who will create the Bride but Christ? The Lord of Hosts, her personal Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, the God of the whole earth. Isa. 54:5 The children of the so called < forsaken woman > will be multiplied more than those of she who had a husband. There is a positive reference here to the offspring of Christ and His Bride. It involves the one hundred forty-four thousand for they will be the productive portion of the body of Christ. Isa. 54:1 The secrets of the Lord are revealed in many ways and in many places in the Word. THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 17 IN THAT DAY. A day of great gladness and rejoicing or a day of utter confusion and sorrow depending entirely on which Jerusalem one is involved with. Isaiah 4:1, belongs to the events of the previous chapter. Where the prophecy relates to natural Jerusalem and the result of its warfare. It is depicted by seven women. A number which foreshadows these last days. This is a word picture of the last day, amalgamated religion, which will embrace all the religions of this world. Its formation is very evident in our time. The one man is the antichrist. Note they will eat their own bread, (doctrine, belief). What a hodgepodge of teachings and ideas that will be. There can be no real unity under such conditions. We will wear our own apparel. The false church, each member will maintain its form of worship, its liturgy and all its religious practices while worshipping the antichrist. They desire to be called by his name. Acquiring a name is necessary for it shows association and relationship, which they desperately need. They are seeking a covering for their reproach. Be assured it is a false covering. AT THAT TIME. What a great contrast. The true Jerusalem, the bride of Christ and her experiences in the last days are then prophesied. Our attention is first of all, focused on the Branch, the Lord Jesus Christ. The growth of His kingdom, the grand culmination and the introduction of the finished product will take place. It is this man, the Branch, who is to build the temple of the LORD. The temple receiving the attention of the Lord is, this temple, which He is now in the process of completing. Rest assured this is the only temple that can or will be acknowledged by the LORD. It is the work of His hands and not something which is brought about by man. This MAN, the BRANCH is to sit and rule upon His throne while at the same time acting as the only High Priest upon His throne. He is delegated a dual office, creating an atmosphere of absolute harmony. Zech. 6:12-13 THE BEAUTY AND GLORY OF THE BRANCH. To be revealed in its completeness in the end of the age. Isa. 4:2 As the great high priest, the eternal, the everlasting, He is clothed in the supreme glory and beauty of the Priesthood. Ex. 28:2 Not temporal man made robes but eternal, spiritual garments which scintillate and glow with the light of the Almighty. Their glory and beauty excel in brightness and color. They are the very maximum, the apex, of all that is glorious and beautiful. THE FRUIT OF THE EARTH. The product of the tree of life. The tree that will bear twelve types of fruit twelve times a year. So, we note that the number one hundred forty-four is associated with this tree of life. This gives us a hint that the tree is something other that what we would usually classify with a tree. It has the strange capability of becoming fruitful every month of the year. Identification is given by the virtue of the leaves which become a healing element for the nations of the world. This tree is the source where by the Gospel is carried to the world. It is fruitful now and will be in the eternity to come. Rev. 22:2 THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 18 THE TREE OF LIFE. The very center, the heart of the whole garden was the tree of life. It was the garden of Eden or the place of the DELIGHT of the king. This had to be the most outstanding and important tree in the whole of the garden for it was in the very middle. All the other trees were planted surrounding it. Gen. 3:3 The importance of the tree is highly emphasized by the protection given to it. Lest man, partake of it and obtain eternal life while yet in a sinful condition, he was expelled from that place of great beauty, the garden, the Paradise of God, the physical presence of the living God. Man, because of having eaten of the forbidden tree, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, had, in that sense, become like a member of the Godhead. He had lost his innocence and was able to comprehend with Godlike understanding the distinction between right and wrong. Under such circumstances, were he to eat of the tree of life, man would have lived eternally in sin. Gen. 3:22 MAN BECAME SEPARATED FROM THE GARDEN. Man was sent forth, banished or driven out from the very presence of the Lord, and that all important tree of life. The garden was planted in the east, (or sun rising), the gate or the door unmistakably was at the east, for the divine protectors were placed there. The door of the tabernacle and the temple both faced the east. Jesus is coming from the east. Mt. 24:27 Adam and Eve were sent away from that place of tranquillity and fellowship which they had enjoyed with the Lord. Now, standing between them and the tree of life are the cherubim and the flaming sword. Gen. 3:24 Literally, the Godhead himself, the Triunity. The cherubim (plural), representing the Father and the Spirit, while sword typifies the Son, the Lord Jesus. He is the sword of the Lord. Rev. 1:16 He is the living and life giving sword, the Word of the Lord. All this illustrating to all of mankind that the tree of life is available today, if we are willing to come according to the Word of the Lord. Jesus is the door. He is the way, the truth and the life, He is the only way to life everlasting. All must come through Him. RESTORED RIGHTS TO EAT OF THE TREE OF LIFE. This authority originates with the Lord Jesus. It is in particular directed to those who are willing to listen to the Word of the Lord directed to the churches of the Lord Jesus. Obedience to the directives given by Him will create a group of people known as overcomers. They are truly members of the body of Christ and of the classification who will compose His Bride in these last days. They are privileged to enter into the Paradise of God, into the heart and core of that heavenly atmosphere and garden and partake of the tree of life. This is the place of the revelation of the plan and purpose of the Lord. Paul was caught up to this blessed area and heard < inexpressible things > of which he was not allowed to communicate. This is the exact nucleus of all Spiritual benefits. 2 Cor. 12:4 THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 19 WAITING AND LONGING FOR THE TREE OF LIFE. There is an anticipation in the heart of every child of God which relates to that day when we shall see Jesus, face to face. That day, which is the day of the < MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB >. As a prospective bride begins to prepare herself long before the time appointed with great expectations in her heart, so the Bride of Christ, with great desire awaits that day. It is to be a time of exceeding great joy and gladness. There has never been an event that is equal to this. Her preparations have been extensive, and complete. She will satisfy every requirement stipulated in the Bridegrooms letter to her, the Word of God. She is that < RADIANT > (NIV) woman of Ephesians 5:27. She is that beautiful and blessed woman who has waited with such strong desire and hope for the dawning of that glorious day, the day of the marriage. Prov. 13:12 Too long her hope has been deferred. The cry and strong aspiration of her heart has been, That I may know Him. That I may be one, united with Him in all of His majesty and glory. Phil. 3:10 The end of that period of < deferred hope > is about to end. We are quickly approaching the time of His revelation to His church. The devotion and longing of His Bride is soon to be satisfied. When the deep longing of her soul and spirit is satisfied, it will become the tree of life. The union of Christ and His Bride will be the completion and the establishment of the eternal tree of life. TRUE GODLY EMOTIONS OF THE BRIDE. Perhaps the strongest passion that she feels is her love for her Bridegroom. An emotion that far supersedes all human and natural sensibilities. The love of Christ is one of a kind. Our response to Him must of the same intense caliber. The measure of the love of His beloved in her profound and absolute love for Him, is expressed in the words found in Song 5:8 "I AM SICK FOR LOVE". Springing from deep within the spirit nature is that compassionate cry to be with Him. To bask in the glow of His presence and to declare her overwhelming love for Him. How well she is to know, that a desire fulfilled is sweet to the soul. The Lord will more than satisfy the longing of her being for Him. Prov 13:19 Another beautiful poetic expression of the fervency of that love is found in the words of the Psalmist. He compares his longing to be in the presence of the Lord to the hart panting and braying after the brooks of water. Psalm 42:1-2 We may be certain that those who find their place in the Bride in the end of the age are a people who have had a great appetite and strong desires to know the Lord in a most intimate fashion. The last days will be days of tremendous extremities. Both in the works of unrighteousness and the accomplishments of the righteous. Humanity will be strongly committed to that which is right and good or sold out fully to that which is evil. They are to be days of serious extremities. We will all find ourselves on one side or the other. Very definite choices will be made, by all. THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 20 THE VISION OF EZEKIEL. In the first place Ezekiel was to see and experience the glory of the Lord. He saw it as it filled the house of the Lord and was so overcome that he fell on his face. Is it possible that he was "slain in the spirit"? Nonetheless he humbled himself before the Lord. In such an attitude he is to receive much instruction and revelation from the Lord. Eze. 44:4 How great our expectation as we acknowledge the promise of His Word that the glory of the latter house will be greater than the former. Hag. 2:9 The world has yet to see the true < house of His glory >. His presence will magnify and glorify any place which He chooses to occupy. The whole intent and purpose of the church is that she might be the place of His eternal habitation. EZEKIEL STOOD IN THE DOOR. We well know that Jesus is the door. John 10:9 All vision and prophetic utterance is dependent on Him, who is the TRUTH and the Holy Spirit who is the Spirit of truth. From this blessed position, Ezekiel was about to view great and mighty things that pertain to our day. He immediately saw a mighty flowing river. It originated from the very heart or throne presence of the Temple, the perfected Bride of Christ. These are the waters of life flowing toward the East or the direction of the coming of Christ. This is that last day revival which will precede the perfection and uniting of His church in to one. This is that great and abundant flow which causes the city of our Lord, the New Jerusalem to rejoice greatly. The Lord is resident within her, she will not fail Ps. 46:4-5 The river bed follows to the right side of the alter, to its south side. Always when the tabernacle was set up it faced east, and the temple when built likewise faced east. The right side was always the southside. Christ Jesus is at the right hand of the Majesty on high. Heb. 1:3 The last and greatest day of the Feast of Tabernacles, the Feast of the seventh month Jesus issued an invitation to drink of living waters which He would supply. These waters were to flow out of the inner most being of those who drank of them. They were to be constant and of great supply, for He was alluding to the Spirit which was yet to be given, John 7:37-39 These waters flow yet today and most certainly will increase in volume as we approach the end of the age. Jesus received the Spirit without measure. John 3:34 As the church comes to maturity most certainly she to will overflow with the same measure of the Spirit, that is the fullness. To partake of these waters is to receive the glorious blessing of the Lord. The Psalmist called this river the river of "His pleasures." He declares it to be the fountain of life, from whence flow the waters of eternal life and indeed it is true. Ps. 36:-9 Here is where one finds true pleasure and satisfaction that far exceeds any which can be found in this world or by participating of the pleasures of this world. No one is excluded from being able to partake of these waters. It is strictly a matter of individual and personal choice. The invitation of the Lord has been extended to all to come and drink deeply. THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 21 THE MAN WITH A MEASURING INSTRUMENT IN HIS HAND. The Lord has certain standards which must be met, therefore, He carefully measures His handiwork. When the man had measured out four measurements, each of one thousand cubits, the waters had increased from a stream to a broad, deep flowing river. Applying the four thousand cubits to a measurement of time we would find a period of four thousand years. From Abraham (The Father of all who walk by faith. Rom. 4:16) to the end of the age and the coming of Christ is four thousand years. The volume of the waters of faith have steadily increased from the time of Abraham until our time. They will swell in magnitude right to the consummation. Eze. 47:3-5 This river represents the flow of the Spirit of the Lord over the span of the ages. The greatest depth and power will result in a glorious revival in our day. DO YOU SEE THIS? These waters have swollen into a vast, deeply flowing and mighty river. This river had become so wide that the prophet could not pass over them, and from his statement, that < they could not be passed over >, it would appear that he could not stand on one bank and see the other. An extensive and wide flowing flood. The Lord has promised that His glory will become an overflowing covering which will cover the earth. Hab. 2:14 These waters are destined to create spiritual growth wherever they flow. Ezekiel was first impressed by the great number of trees which had sprung up along each side of the river. Eze. 47:7 We see here the righteous individual who is planted in Christ and is growing in wisdom and knowledge. The tree planted by the waters. Ps. 1:3 Then he noted that they went down into the desert, a dry and empty place. Continuing on is their flow they reach the dead sea. Here, eureka, wherever these waters flow there is a life giving force accompanying them and there is healing of that which was old and stagnant. The freshness of the waters of the river refreshed and revived the waters of the sea. Eze. 47:5-8 WATERS OF LIFE. Even as water is a great necessity for natural life, so the waters of the Spirit are vitally needful for life everlasting. These waters are determined to be waters of life. They bring to all creatures, a source of life. Thus, illustrating the broad effect of these waters where ever they should flow. The life giving ability of the river is spoken of twice in verse nine, emphasizing the "double portion" impact of this river of the glory of the Lord. Surely the statement of their healing virtue is not limited to spiritual healing but embraces physical healing as well. Likewise and of great importance the fact that these waters will abound with a great multitude of fish. Always fish are to be identified with those who are candidates to be won or are newly won to Christ. Revival will finish the spreading of the Gospel to every creature on the earth. How amazing that with modern technology the world may be reached and won to Christ. As never before the Good News is being spread around the world. The Lord is doing great things and there is much more to come. THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 22 THE RIVER OF THE LORD FLOWING FROM HIS THRONE. A great stream of living waters flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. Rev. 22:1 That which was a vision to Ezekiel is to be fulfilled in the end of the age, as these waters flow from the New Jerusalem. This is that river which will cause the city of the Lord to rejoice and be elated. The holy place of the Most High. The dwelling place of the Lord. The essence of the Holy Spirit, in His fullness flowing throughout and pleasing the City, the Bride of Christ, with His presence. Ps. 46:4 THE GREAT DAY OF THE FEAST. The last day Jesus invited the thirsty to come to Him and drink. The feast at which He extended this invitation was the feast of Tabernacles. It was the last day of the feast or the eighth day. Lev. 23:39 The number eight is representative of the dawning of a new day. The day of the resurrection of Christ was on the eighth day. This day was designated as a special Sabbath day. This feast is of special interest to we who live in the end of the age for it was the last Biblical feast of their Levitical year. The number seven is a divine complete number and speaks of a final or a last day fulfillment. This feast symbolizes a last day revival of great proportions. It was a day of great rejoicing and celebration. The final, general harvest of the year had been gathered. This was the day of the pouring forth of water from golden vessels on the altar. During this ceremony, Isa. 12:3 was sung. He offered them LIVING waters, which would flow from within them. The source of the living waters is the Holy Spirit. John 7:37-39 What a mighty reservoir is resident within each and every Spirit filled individual. The promise involves rivers (plural, or double portion), an immense flow of the Spirit for these last days. The waters flow from the right side of the house. Eze. 47:1 Jesus has been exalted to the right hand of His Father. Mk. 16:19 WATERS WHICH FLOW INTO THE DESERT. Into a dry desolate area. A place of little life. Wherever they flow there is a sign of life. The desert, the dry place shall rejoice and sing, for the glory of the Lord will be made manifest. Isa. 35:1-2 Reaching ultimately to the sea. On flowing into the sea these waters bring healing to the sea. The seas typify the masses of humanity which are like the troubled sea. Living things, mainly people shall find life, or be revived, brought to life. The word live in verse nine means to revive, save or be made whole. We are entering in to a time in the economy of the Lord where multitudes will turn to the Lord. These will be great days of extreme contrast, for at the same time wickedness will increase leading ultimately to the reign of the antichrist. Of this we may be certain. The Lord always visits in mercy before He manifests judgment on the earth. Decisions will be made that are eternal and binding. There will be no middle ground. The final judgment will be faced and the situation of each and every heart will be settled eternally. Rev. 22:11 THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 23 LIFE GIVING WATERS. Waters of abundant supply. Swiftly flowing with great strength and might. Clearing out all refuse and clutter that may have been filling the river bed. Typifying a mighty revival flowing through the world which is a must. A saving, cleansing, sanctifying flow of the Spirit sweeping multitudes into the kingdom of the Lord, while at the same time purifying a Bride for the Lord Jesus and bringing her to perfection. The mountain of the House of the Lord, to be preeminent and attractive. The nations of the world to flow to it. Isa. 2:2 The work of the Holy Spirit in the past century has been mighty and glorious, but the very climax, the flood tide is yet to reach its zenith. The last day outpouring is to be accompanied by mighty and fearsome signs and wonders in heaven and earth. All this prior to the second coming of Christ. The imminent return of Christ is an impossibility until these signs have been fulfilled. Study these scriptures very carefully, meditate on them, pray about them, they are very important to we who live today. Acts 2:17-21 The next great spiritual event effecting this world is not the second coming, but is the revival and perfecting of the church. A GREAT CROP OF TREES GROWING ON BOTH BANKS. Once again a symbol is given which is of great importance. The growth of these trees, on both sides of the river symbolize the "double portion" or full and complete portion. That which Elisha desired of Elijah, not just twice as much but the same identical measure, a like amount. 2 Kings 2:9 These two prophets typify Christ and His church. As we see and fully comprehend the death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of Christ we become eligible for the same anointing which was upon Him. The first born was to receive a double portion of ALL. Deut. 21:17 The "double portion" is the identical quantity and quality of the Spirit which was manifest in the Lord Jesus. The Spirit which was in Him, flowed like Ezekiels river, in measureless volume. The Spirit was given to Christ, not by measure, that makes it measureless. No boundary, endless, immeasurable and in full capacity. John 3:34 The trees are seen in Ezekiiel as individual trees, in their initial planting and growth stage. In the book of Revelation they will be gathered into one, the Bride of Christ. They are fruit trees, whose fruit never ceases. At no time of the year is there any lack of a crop. Their fruit is new, fresh or "firstfruits" The feast of firstfruits, was in the seventh month or at the time of the feast of Tabernacles. It was also called the "feast of harvest". It was the closing feast of the Levitical year and speaks of the end of the age. Ex. 23:16 The Lord Jesus is called the "firstfruits" of the resurrection. 1 Cor. 15:23 The one hundred forty four thousand are likewise called "firstfruits". Firstfruit is simply the first ripe fruit or the beginning of the harvest. It was to be dedicated to the Lord. It was the assurance of a great harvest to follow. As it was with the natural crop so it will be with the spiritual. Firstfruits are not the conclusion of the harvest but a promise of greater to come. THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 24 missing THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 25 UNWITHERING LEAVES. Never dying, never growing old. Constant and consistent foliage on these fruit trees. There is no longer a season for them. They are changeless and permanently filled with life. Trees are the tallest living plants on the face of the earth. Also, they are the oldest living thing known to man. Eze. 47:12 The palm (Tamar, erect, straight and tall.) is used in the scriptures as a type of the RIGHTEOUS. It will flourish, break forth and spread. Ps. 92:12 How like the Coconut palm, its fruit buoyant and carried by the winds and the waves until it is a universal tree. Scattered wherever the climate is conducive to its growth. The seed, the coconut, like the Word of the Lord carried to the islands and continents of the world. The palm tree is a source of life in many areas of the world. The Palmer palm gives a sweet nectar which becomes a sweet drink, delicious brown sugar or even an intoxicant. All of which have spiritual connotations. The Sago palm is likewise a source of food and is used in construction, even for coffins. The oil palm has a great variety of uses from cooking to cosmetics. The date palm summarily is a source of sustenance. The palm tree with its many varieties is such a necessity to the existence of so many in our world. Incidentally, they are never devoid of leaves. No wonder it is used as an example of a tree of life. We have just scratched the surface of its usefulness, which is multitudinous. ISRAEL CAME TO ELIM. Elim, palms or strong trees. This was their second stop. Here they found twelve wells or springs of water plus seventy palm trees. The springs signify the presence and flow of the Spirit. The numbers represent leadership and government. Ex. 15:27 Moses was ordered to chose seventy of the elders of Israel who were to share with him, from a distance, the experience of the mighty presence of the Lord. Ex. 24:9 Seventy were ordained to approach the Tabernacle and be there while the Lord spoke with Moses. At that time the spirit that was on Moses was transferred to the seventy that they might share in the responsibility of leading the children of Israel. Num. 11:16 Jesus anointed seventy beside the twelve and sent them forth to minister to the people and prepare the way of His coming. Their work was highly successful and cause great rejoicing among them. Luke 10:1, 17. With proper, God appointed leadership the church is to prosper, spiritually. The Lord established certain patterns in His Word and remains consistent in their usage. There will be life, growth and fruitfulness when the Bible pattern is followed. IT IS OF INTEREST TO NOTE. When Jesus enter Jerusalem at the time of what is known as the Triumphant Entry, it was the branches of palm trees that were used in welcoming Him. John 12:13 Carvings of palm trees were used extensively in Solomon's Temple. Both on the inside and the outside as well as the door. 1 Kings 6:29-32 Ezekiels Temple also has a significant display of carved palms. Eze. 40 - 41. The spiritual importance of the palm tree is self evident. THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 26 ABIDING LEAVES. How very essential they are to the continuation of the life of the tree. Through the process of photosynthesis (Meaning, putting together with light), the food chain of life is maintained. All animal life, including man, eat of the plants produced by this process. It is a continual circle of life. The sun, the source of light. The Father. The leaves, source of the production of the nutrients, the church. The root, The Son, providing strength and the constant storage and supply of the food produced. Only divine intelligence could have conceived this process and then placed it into action. Eze. 47:12 The light used in photosynthesis is absorbed by a green pigment called chlorophyll. Each food-making cell in a plant leaf contains chlorophyll in small bodies called chloroplasts. In chloroplasts, light energy causes water drawn from the soil to split into molecules of hydrogen and oxygen. In a series of complicated steps, the hydrogen combines with carbon dioxide from the air, forming a simple sugar. Oxygen from the water molecules is given off in the process. From sugar together with nitrogen, sulfur, and phosphorus from the soil, green plants can make starch, fat, protein, vitamins, and other complex compounds essential for life. Photosynthesis provides the chemical energy needed to produce these compounds. * Essential for spiritual life is the message brought by the church, the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. The process of photosynthesis also cleanses the air, therefore it is a natural purifier, created by the Lord. The analogy to the working of the Holy Spirit is self evident. Spirit, air and breath are the same words in both Hebrew (ruach) and Greek (pneuma). When such a complex process is produced, how is it possible to even begin to think that this just happened. It is like saying that no one made these homes we live in, the cars we drive, the radio and TV that we listen to and watch. Everything produced by man has required intelligence to manufacture it. How much more the creation of which we are a part, and in which we live. "In the beginning God", Elohym. All of nature brings us the same identical message, I WAS CREATED. THE RIGHTEOUS ARE LIKE THE TREE PLANTED BY THE WATERS. They will never be without fruit nor will their leaves ever dry up and fall. They are constantly successful. Ps. 1:3 Note the change of gender from, male, the tree, to female, the leaf which shall always under all circumstances remain green. Jer. 17:8 This tree and its leaves produce fruit, even in its old age. Ps. 92:14 Like Abraham and Sarah were blessed with Isaac. The leaves are healthy and productive. The fruit will be healthy and strong. *David H. Wagner, "Photosynthesis," World Book Online Americas Edition, http://www.aolsvc.worldbook.aol.com/ar?/na/ar/co/ar428180.htm, May 16, 2003. THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 27 EXCEEDING AND CONSISTENT FRUITFUL TREES. All type of fresh edible fruit produced by the multiplicity of trees along the bank of the river. All subsist by the waters of the river. We are looking at a type of the last day revival which will consummate the plan and purpose of the Lord. The great supply of fruit will not cease nor can it be totally consumed. There is a continuos growth and ripening of the various crops. Eze. 47:12 NEW OR FIRST-FRUITS. The Hebrew word used here is, bakar, meaning to burst the womb i.e. (causatively) bear or make early fruit (of woman or tree), also to give the birthright. KJV - make firstborn, be firstling, bring forth first child (new fruit). (Strong's.) It becomes obvious that there is something more involving here than just fruit on a tree. Firstfruits were something that was very special to the Lord, they were to be His. Whether from the field or tree, from animal or man, that which was first ripe or firstborn must be dedicated to the Lord. The command was to bring the firstfruits of the ground to the Lord. Ex. 23:19 The first of their ground meal after entering the promised land was to be offered to the Lord. Num. 15:20 The fruit of trees, oil and wine, the first must be brought. Neh. 10:35 Having done so, the Lord could bless them with abundance. The firstborn were to receive a very special allotment inheritance. He was to receive a double portion. Deut. 21:17 Figuratively, the double portion signifies a full and complete portion or anointing. Such will be the measure of the Spirit on the church of the last days. The double portion or identical portion was sought by Elisha from Elijah. 2 Kings 2:9 By fixing his eyes on Elijah and seeing him as he was carried into heaven Elisha received his request. The recorded miracles of Elisha are twice that of Elijah. The fruit of Ezekiels orchard is firstfruits and represents a great harvest to be reaped. Only the Lord knows the end of the fruit bearing life of these trees, if there is any. There is production from these trees every month. They are most unusual and unique. The rod of Aaron and its startling fruitfulness gives us a hint of the ability of the Lord to produce life out of death. Aaron's rod was well dead and dried, until it was placed with eleven others before the Lord in the tabernacle. Then, in one night it budded, blossomed and bore fruit. Num. 17:8 Most assuredly our Lord is the God of the unusual. Isaac was born of parents with whom the possibility of child bearing was forever gone. It is said of Abraham that he staggered not at the promise of the Lord, in spite of the physical condition of the bodies of two old people. When the Lord promised Abraham was fully persuaded that the Lord was well capable of fulfilling His promise. Unique and unusual circumstances nevertheless hind sight shows us the infallibility of the faith of these for whom it was necessary for them to trust the Lord for the unbelievable. The mystery of the fruitfulness of Ezekiels orchard and the fulfillment of the mystery is once again an act of the Lord. What He has portrayed in this vision He, the Lord will surely accomplish. THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 28 FROM EZEKIEL TO REVELATION. There can be no question but what these two men saw identical visions. However there is a very obvious difference. Ezekiel saw the river with an orchard, not only many trees but a great variety of fruit trees growing on its banks. These trees Eze. 47:2 John saw a single, united tree. Ezekiel saw the church catholic, universal and cosmopolitan, the many faceted church of a great variety of doctrines and religious practices. Claiming to worship Christ which may or may not be the fact. "The great house" containing many vessels, some with the great value of gold, others but mere earth. Those of honor and some to dishonor. The difference being that of preparedness, which is in this case, sanctification and a readiness to do the will of the Lord. 2 Tim. 2:20 To have a part in the tree of life it is necessary to purge or separate oneself from that which is not of true faith in Christ. 2 Tim. 2:21 THE TREE IN ORDER TO BEAR FRUIT MUST BE TRIMMED. Perhaps not a pleasant experience for the one being pruned but a vital step in the production of a good crop. Pruning is the work of the husbandman. Every nonfruit bearing branch is lopped off. Not all who claim to be a portion of the tree will actually be in the tree seen by John. Being religious is not enough, there must be fruit brought to maturity. John 15:2 We are likewise informed that not all who call out Lord, Lord will find their way into the kingdom of the Lord, much less into the bride of Christ. Mt. 7:21 "What is the chaff to the wheat?" saith the LORD. Jer. 23:28 Up to and until threshing time, the chaff is very necessary. Then, through severe beating and pressure the chaff is separated and does not have much value, compared to the grain. Trials and persecutions will quickly indicate what is grain and what is chaff. For a surety the bride will come out of much persecution. Anyone who tells you that life will be but a bowl of cherries for the Christian in these last days is not being truthful. One of the signs of the last days, seldom mentioned is that Christians will be afflicted, killed and hated of all nations for professing and declaring the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Mt. 24:9 At that time, many, will be offended or be trapped and enter into apostasy. Brother will betray brother and hate one another. Mt. 24:10 The grain will be thoroughly tested and tried. Many false prophets will appear deceiving many. Prophesying nothing but good things and blessings without trials and difficulties. Many are deceived already and more will follow in the same pattern. Mt. 24:11 Because of a let down in the standards of holiness the love of many will become exceedingly cold, sin and apostasy will abound and many will fail in the test and flailing of the grain. Mt. 24:12 Those who withstand the temptations and continue steadfast unto the end will be saved. Mt. 24:13 Yes, more than just being saved they will become part and parcel of that glorious and wonderful Bride of Christ. No one wants to go thorough hard times but lets be realistic, the early church expected to face persecutions but they persevered. Acts 14:22 THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 29 WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING AS A TREE OF LIFE. The individual who obtains spiritual wisdom and understanding is the person who has found true happiness. Prov. 3:13 The acquiring of wisdom is the finding of the source of life and they will gain the favor of the Lord. Most assuredly that is something worth seeking after. Prov. 8:11 The value and the gain acquired from these commodities far outweighs the profit which may be made by trading in gold and silver. This elevates these spiritual gifts to the highest degree and value. Prov. 3:14 Having been joined to the tree of life, Christ becomes the fulfillment of our dire need of wisdom. There is no other source whereby we may obtain the necessary spiritual elements which enhance our relationship with Him. 1 Cor.1:30 Wisdom is a tree of life to all who will reach out and lay hold of her. To grasp wisdom is to appropriate the tree of life, to adhere to the tree of life is to procure wisdom. Prov. 3:18 THE SECTIONS OF THE TREE. THE ROOTS. The portion which anchors the tree. Its strength and ability to withstand the onslaught of the tornado, the typhoon and the hurricane. The roots are most vital to the growth and vitality of the tree for it is in them that the sap and food for the tree is stored. They are also the source of water and nutrients from the soil which sustain the life of the tree. The roots are a type of the Lord Jesus Christ, the root of David. David was both an ancestor and a type of the Lord Jesus who sprung from Him. Rev. 5:5 Every true part of the tree which partakes of He who is the root is going to manifest His holiness. They will be what the root is and will bear His likeness. Rom. 11:16 They will partake of that which is supplied by the root system and indulge in the fatness of the olive tree. From whence the oil of the anointing was derived. Rom. 11:17 The roots are the foundation and strength which carry the weight of the tree and maintain its status quo. Rom. 11:18 THE TRUNK. Jesus is the fruit of the tree of salvation. The cross (Gr. xulon, a tree, timber of stake.) He was hanged on a tree and became the way of our connection between earth to heaven. Acts 10:39 As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the SON OF MAN be lifted up. John 3:14 For the cause of disobedience Israel was attacked by serpents whose bite was fiery and deadly. A brazen (the metal signifying judgment) serpent lifted up, upon a pole, became their deliverance, providing they came to it and looked upon it. Obedience to the Word is necessary to receive all blessings. Num. 21:8-9 The object of their deliverance they maintained and worshipped, which was forbidden. In a time of spiritual restoration it was destroyed along with every other heathen image. 2 Kings 18:4 They had even named it Nehushtan, the brazen serpent. Take care lest an image made in the form of a cross become an idol. The warning is in their experience. The cross should mean death to the flesh for us today and not a symbol to be maintained and worshipped. THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 30 THE RIGHTEOUS SHALL THRIVE AS A GREEN LEAF. Prov. 11:28 NIV Green is the color of life. It is the most restful color to the eye. The sheep of the great shepherd are led to pastures of verdant green. Ps. 23:2 The leaves of the tree are of vital importance to its well being and growth. They are an essential part of the whole. The leaf, through the process of photosynthesis, is the food producing portion of the tree. Sunlight supplies the power, carbon dioxide and water are the other elements used in producing a simple sugar. The sugar is then changed into many different chemicals which are life producing and life sustaining. Interesting that the three bring about the one. Might we find this a type of the Godhead in creation? There are numerable examples and types of the Lord in His creation. He has constantly interjected His being, that is, life into His creation. John 1:4 There is a mystery in the process of photosynthesis which can only be explained as an act of God. The leaf receives the poison carbon dioxide, processes it and purifies it. Then releases it as oxygen. Exactly like the effect of the Gospel. From pollution to being altered and cleansed. THE LONGING HEART OF THE BRIDE. To fellowship with her Bridegroom, the one whom she deeply loves. To find the place where He is resting His flock at noon. Her desires and thoughts are only of Him. SOS. 1:7 His response to her is likewise with the deep feeling of a heart that is in love. He makes mention of her beauty, and surely she is. SOS. 1:15 She finds Him to be handsome, sweet and pleasant. Their meeting was a joyous occasion. Their couch, was green, or in a garden of beauty, certainly with flowers and all else which would be found in a cultivated area. The suggestion is given that there was an arch or a canopy over the couch on which they were sitting. She had found Him and her heart was now satisfied. SOS. 1:16 The greenery, the thought of a garden with its many flowering plants and its great variety of colors creates a picture of the Bride and the Bridegroom together in that place prepared by the Lord. THE LEAVES FOR THE HEALING OF THE NATIONS. The church has a dual message of healing that it must take to the nations of the world, both, physical and spiritual. This gospel shall be preached to the whole world, then the end shall come. Mt. 24:14 Jesus ministered a gospel of salvation and healing. The early church followed His example. We today have the same message to take to the world and it is being done. The revival of the ages, the final great outpouring of the Holy Spirit is about to break forth on to this world with its result being a perfect church. The completion of the tree of life. The breaking forth of a season where the leaves are green and productive and life, eternal life is extended to all who will believe and receive Christ as Savior. Eze. 47:12 Rev. 22:2 THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 31 THE TREE OF LIFE. The multi-apportioned, multi-positioned Christ and His Bride. From the roots to the leaves every part of the tree is necessary and provides support, one part to the other. Each component having its purpose and filling its designated work to maintain the tree. There is not a segment of the tree which is not vital to the whole. It is portrayed in another manner when Paul spoke of the church being the body of Christ. She, being the fullness, the completion of Christ. Eph. 1:23 Without the church, the bride the Christ of God is incomplete. In the beginning the Lord made them male and female. The man cannot complete his mission in life without the woman and visa-versa. The tree of life is perfect and complete, all of its essential parts beautifully and wonderfully blended into the tree of all trees. Like the Bride of Christ, the most outstanding, the loveliest, the most gorgeous bride of the ages. THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE TREE TO OUR SUBJECT. The hintings of the Lord are frequently hidden and subtle. We desperately need the help and wisdom of the Holy Spirit to find them and appropriate them for our enlightenment and understanding. "It is the glory of God to conceal a thing but the honor of kings is to search out a matter." Prov. 25:2 We have before us a tree bearing twelve manner of fruit and producing a crop every month, twelve months a year. In other words twelve times twelve or one hundred forty-four. Anywhere and anytime a number such as this is found in the scripture it should pique our interest. That the fruit producing element is seen in such a manner in this tree is worthy of our attention. The roots of the tree do not bear fruit but store and supply nourishment as well as stabilizing the tree. The leaves likewise, are not the fruit producing segment of the tree, but manufacture food and supply strength and growth to the fruit. Each and every section of the tree is of its own make up and character, yet the whole must be blended in secure unity in order to be fruitful. The purpose of the whole, is to produce fruit. Jesus cursed the fig tree for not bearing fruit, and it withered and died. Mt. 21:19 A fruit tree without fruit is not accomplishing its purpose in life. The reason for the tree of life is to produce fruit. This world with all of its happenings and circumstances is but an excessively infinitesimal fraction of the display of life, a dot, a fleeting shadow, and all too quickly passing of a moment called time. The tree of life is eternal, everlasting, ever producing fruit. This tree will not wither, it will not die. It is the TREE OF LIFE and with the Lord life is forever, world without end. There is no concluding moment associated with things that the Lord has prepared for those who love Him. Far beyond the scope of the imagination and thoughts of man, the Lord has determined amazing and astonishing things for those who love Him. Only as we search out the secrets of the Lord and He blesses us with the revelation of His Spirit may we even begin to comprehend what the future of the redeemed will be. Be assured, that whatever the Lord prepares it will be out of this world. 1 Cor. 2:9-10 THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND. 32 THE TREE OF LIFE. Its existence spans the whole of the History of man, from garden (the garden of Eden), to the eternal garden of the Lord, found growing before the throne of the Lord. That the tree is a spiritual tree, there is no question. For, eating of it is granted those who overcome. It is situated in the everlasting paradise of the Lord. Rev. 2:7 The fruit of the tree belongs to the righteous, only to those who have the right and privilege of passing through the gates of the city. Rev. 22:14 I MAKE ALL THINGS NEW. It is a mistake to expect the new works of the Lord to be like this world. As we delight in new things, so also the Lord. To begin with, He is even now creating a new people. If we are in Christ, the full potential of what that means will soon be made manifest to the body of Christ. The old must be laid aside, that the new, from the crown of the head to the souls of the feet, the resurrected, transformed body may be brought to pass. The changed, the resurrected body, while similar, in shape will be a spiritual body. A body without the limitations of our present natural bodies. The character, the nature, the attitudes, the thinking are all according to the pattern of the new man. Godlike and spiritual in nature. All new, completely, absolutely walking in, and motivated by the Spirit of the Lord. So drastically different that there can really be no comparison made. Rev. 21:5 AN ENTIRELY NEW DWELLING PLACE TO BE CREATED. The promise of the new heavens and the new earth came through the prophet Isaiah and includes the promise that the former things will never be remembered nor will they ever come to mind. The things of this life and earth will never be remembered again. Isa. 65:17 Beyond that, former troubles are forgotten and hidden from the eyes of the Lord. v.16 Our future status is determined by our surrender to the Lord, in the here and now. The past unrighteousness is completely obliterated, wiped out. Gone for eternity. That which is new will abide before the Lord, forever. The assurance of a continuous seed, a posterity before the Lord is given. Likewise the reputation given to the old has been defiled and polluted in many ways, both physically and spiritually. The new creation cannot ever be contaminated in any way. Everything about it from, its topography, to its city, to its people will be absolutely purity. Its atmosphere will be righteousness, purity and holiness. 2 Pet. 3:13 His interest and care is centered on the New Jerusalem, which is that heavenly city, the true eternal city of the living Lord. It is a city of joy and gladness. No sorrow, anguish or tears will ever be found there. It is His Bride. Rev. 21:2 "NO MORE", will an infant die, nor will there be any who grow old and die. Isa. 65:20 The things of this life will not prevail in that blessed, everlasting city of great power and beauty. Inasmuch as there will be no sinners there the second half of this verse applies to the conditions of "the now". THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND. 33 SHALL A NATION BE BORN AT ONCE? An event that amazes about to transpire. "Who has heard such a thing". Isa. 66:8 Something unimaginable. A sign a portent. An act of the Lord that reveals His majesty and glory. There are four questions asked by the Lord in this verse. The first tells us that this situation has been declared and spoken of until it has become a Word of prophecy, which will be fulfilled by the Lord. Its message has been proclaimed openly in the scriptures, foreshadowed in type and symbol and is for the last days. "Who has ever seen such things?" The event to be seen, to be visible, as well. In this particular case something that has never been before. The preparation of the Lord staggers the imagination. His accomplishments in the church of the end of the age are far beyond the minor expectations of men. Only through the Word may we begin to catch a glimpse of His mighty works in the end of the age. 1 Cor. 2:9 The Spirit of revelation will open to the church all the mysteries of the Lord. It is not His intent and purpose to keep His secrets from those who love Him. 1 Cor. 2:10 The grand and glorious preparations of the Lord will be fully manifest in those who wait patiently for His Word to be completed in them. Isa. 64:4 Tremendous adventures lie ahead for the Bride of Christ. A ONE DAY HAPPENING. Shall the earth (or a land, NIV) be born in one day. The context of this chapter in Isaiah must be considered very carefully in order to come to the right conclusion on this matter. The chapter opens with a rebuke to those who would build an edifice for the dwelling place of the Lord. When heaven is His throne and earth is but His footstool, where and how grand must a building be to satisfy His desires. How is it possible to take of the Creators, creation and build to suit Him? Since it is He who brought it all into being in the first place. Isa. 66:1-2 Then it becomes a matter of the style of worship which is used in approaching Him. The man who would build the house offers unacceptable sacrifices which are an abomination to the Lord. There is such an attitude of stubbornness and obstinacy that the Lord said, "they have chosen their own ways, their souls delight in their abominations". Is this the people whom the Lord has chosen to reinstate and reestablish a people for Himself in these last days? Hardly. The Lord called unto them, sending His own Son as a witness and testimony of the great grace of the Lord. He was refused and rejected. Isa. 66:3-4 Contrary wise, this is the man to whom, the Lord will give attention. The man who is of a humble nature. One who is contrite, yielding and broken in spirit. A yielded vessel, body, soul and spirit. Then, perhaps that which is most necessary, that which produces the preceding attitude is the fact that the man accepted of the Lord, trembles, filled with an appreciation and reverence of the Word of the Lord. Isa. 66:2 The Lord responds, both to disobedience of the Word and acceptance and appreciation of the Word. To one, it is judgment. To the other life everlasting. THE ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND. 34 A NATION BROUGHT FORTH OR BIRTHED. THE PEOPLE. There is a definite difference between a "nation" and a "people". Isa. 66:8 The scriptures refer to the tribes of Israel as the "people of God". This is important for it sets them apart, as they were, to serve and worship the Lord. Note that they are called the "assembly of the people of God". Judges 20:2 This was well established under the Old Testament economy. They were repeatedly referred to as belonging to the Lord. A called out people, separated unto Him. The very special seed of Abraham. Moses made a definite choice to identify himself with the "people of God" while in Egypt and therefore suffered the affliction that Israel went through while in captivity. Heb. 11:25 THE NATION. In the eyes and reckoning of the Lord there was a great difference between "the people" and the "nation". NATION, (Heb. gowy, a foreign nation, a Gentile, a heathen. Strongs) is used in regard to the heathen nations. The nation, which is to be born at once, is therefore not of natural Israel, but rather a spiritual people who are called and elevated by the Lord. The "people" of the Lord are they who have embraced faith in the Lord and believe on Him. Unbelief can only result in being separated from the Lord. Jude 5. Any who are accounted as the "people" today are saved because of grace and not by race. The Lord in using the term "nation" was showing, beyond a shadow of a doubt, His spiritual "people" are from every tongue, tribe and nation. Peter speaks of the spiritual house. Built of lively stones. A priesthood of holy people offering spiritual sacrifices unto the Lord. 1 Pet. 2:5 The headstone of the building is Christ Jesus. He was of Sion, the spiritual city of the Lord. 1 Pet. 2:6 To the believer, He is the very foundation. To the unbeliever, the very same stone is a stumbling stone, and a rock which offends, because of unbelief. 1 Pet. 2:8 A mixed multitude, which were excluded by the Lord and could not be considered His people are now fully and completely acceptable. They had no standing in the eyes of the Lord, but now, through faith in the Son of the Lord they are the recipients of that abundant mercy and are included in the formation of that eternal city of the Lord. 1 Pet. 2:9 Through the Lord Jesus ALL are brought into the commonwealth of the true Israel of God. By the sacrifice of Himself and the offering of His own blood He has purchased ALL men, Jew and Gentile that He might involve them in His glorious and marvelous, eternal kingdom. His covenant neither includes nor excludes any because of race. Eph. 2:12-13 Confidence, faith in the beautiful act of redemption performed for the whosoever will is the key to becoming a part of His glorious church, of which the one hundred forty-four thousand are a vital living organ. The are an integral part of the Bride of Christ and will be used in a very special way. They will bring forth that New Nation which will be the seed of the New Heavens and the New Earth. The Lord will fulfill His Divine design and will have what He has strongly desired all along. A people who are totally His and for Him. THE ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY FOUR THOUSAND 35 IN HIS TIME. The Lord alone is the time keeper. Every event which He has scheduled for the end of the age will take place, exactly according to His planning. He has established a horizon, a limit for his world. It is an appointed time which He has predetermined. With the timing of the Lord, nothing is circumstantial. He has preset an agenda and is right on time with His purposes for the end of the age. Acts 17:26 There are yet a series of events which preclude and precede the climax of the end, that is, His Second Coming. Not the least of these is His relationship and marriage to His Bride. An event which is of great importance to the church of today and yet so few, even in the ministry, are aware that it is something which will take place here on earth. THE WOMAN OF REVELATION TWELVE IS A MARRIED WOMAN. She is shown in all of her beauty and splendor. Standing on light, clothed with light and crowned with light, all the light originating, emanating and beaming from the very being who is light. Rev. 12:1 In her marriage to the Lamb she has become as pure as purity itself. She has reached the apex of righteousness. There is not a flaw or fault in her. Her holiness, her sinlessness is equal to the Lord Himself. She is precisely what He is. He has elevated her to be equal with Himself. The Redeemer, the Savior, is called THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. That is the name whereby His character is known and manifest. Jer. 23:6 Then, to illustrate the point, please note, that she, His bride is endowed with the same name. Her rights, through marriage, are the same as His. For, she shall be called, The LORD our righteousness. His name, being and character is bestowed upon her. Jer. 33:16 "My beloved is mine and I am His:" SOS. 2:16 The only perfect unspoiled marriage, ever. A MAN CHILD IS BORN. No living individual will be a part of this group. They are born of parents who are perfect and entire. The parents have reached the heights of Spirituality. The product of their marriage is so vital to the plan of the Lord, that satan, the old dragon is depicted standing at full alert to destroy the man child immediately at His birth. Rev. 12:4 That can only emphasize the importance of the man child. His significance is further revealed by the fact that he is immediately caught up into heaven, to God and His throne. We must draw special attention to His destiny. He has a very definite position of leadership in the heavenly and eternal economy of the Lord. He is to shepherdize the redeemed of all ages who are in the kingdom of the Lord. There is a definite order in the kingdom of the Lord. Spiritual guidance and leadership will be provided. Note the advice which Jethro gave to Moses for the provision of a suitable, working government. Ex. 18:17-25 There were five (number of atonement) levels of leaders. Moses, heads of thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. Each answering to those above them, Moses answering to the Lord. THE ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY FOUR THOUSAND. 36 THE PEOPLE OF THE NEW JERUSALEM. A most unique City. Its stones are the redeemed. The redeemed will occupy it. They are the lively, living stones, which when gathered together will become the house of the Lord. The eternal habitation of the living Lord. At the same time they are a priesthood of holiness and righteousness who offer spiritual sacrifices which are fitting and proper unto the Lord. 1 Pet. 2:5 They are the people of the Lord who are altogether just and right before Him. They have been through the process of washing and cleansing. They are a sanctified people. Cleansed by the spirit of judgment, the WORD with its stand against sin, and by the fire of the Holy Spirit. Isa. 4:4 It is worthy to note also that the occupants of Jerusalem are they whose names are recorded to be among the living. The City is composed of those who are alive at the time of her construction and are its tenants, will most assuredly have their names recorded in the Lambs book of life. Isa. 4:3 Rev. 21:27 THE BRANCH OF HIS PLANTING. The Father, as the husbandman, caused a shoot or a rod, a descendant, to come forth from the lineage of Jesse, which is the Lord Jesus Christ. Isa. 11:1 In the last days the Branch of the LORD will be a tree of great beauty and glorious. It will have reached its maturity and the apex of its fruitfulness. Isa. 4:2 The branches of the vine have fully developed and are heavy with fruit of the highest quality. Harvest time has arrived and the fruit is about to be gathered. John 15:5 While Christ is the BRANCH or root, the members of His Bride, are like He, branches of the true vine, the Lord Jesus. The man, whose name is the Branch, is the builder of the Temple of the LORD, Jehovah. Zech. 6:12 Literally, the Lord, presented the Lord Jesus to Zechariah as one who has a threefold office. We have seen Him as the contractor of the City, the house of the Lord. He will also occupy the two highest offices of the eternal kingdom of the Lord. For He is to be "clothed with majesty" and reside, as King on the throne of heaven. At the same time He is shown to be the true Priest of the Most High. Note Heb. 7:25-26 A dual, and fitting position which He will posses through out the ages of eternity. Zech. 6:13 The positions and responsibilities of the Lord Jesus are many. As the Branch, He is also the servant of His Father and one who serves the people. The Branch bears the title of that of a servant. He is also the stone, beginning with Jacob's stone. That stone has seven eyes, the all seeing presence of the Holy Spirit who in His fullness, filled the Lord Jesus, anointing Him with the Holy oil of Heaven. The seven eyes compare to the seven fold spirit of Isaiah eleven two, which is the divine completeness and fullness of the spirit. Jesus received the Spirit without measure. Not only was He the abiding place of the Spirit but the Father also filled Him with all the fullness of all that the Lord is. Col. 1:19 What is most astonishing is that we are invited to be filled with His love and then enjoy the fruit of that love, which is being filled with the same fullness. That is, to be filled with all the fullness of God Eph. 3:19 Is there anything beyond that? Anything greater? No, that is the ultimate. THE ONE HUNDED FORTY FOUR THOUSAND. 37 THE CITY SURROUNDED BY A MEASURED WALL. The city is the New Jerusalem. The crowning master piece of the Lord. The city of His creation. The place of His throne. His dwelling place forever. John is led by the angel, carried away in the Spirit to view that great and wondrous city of the Lord. It is identified as the "bride the Lamb's wife". Rev. 21:9 That can only emphasize the importance of a perfect last day gathering of the redeemed who are to be His Bride. A people of perfection. Bearing the full stature and holiness of the Lord Himself. She is called a great city and she is that in every aspect of the word. Great in size. The very epitome of everything that the Lord is. She is also called the holy Jerusalem. This is the city that Abraham started out to find. A city with sure, incorruptible foundations. The technician, the craftsman, the mechanic, the maker was very God Himself. Heb. 11:10 THE CITY MEASURED. There will not be a fault of any kind to be found in his city. Absolutely nothing in it is out of line, miss measured or will fail to fit in its proper place. The city is to be measured by a reed of gold. Rev. 21:15 The Greek word kalamos, is used here. It may be translated, pen. Thus indicating that the measuring reed used is the Word of the Lord. Its measurement was to be twelve thousand furlongs, adding the height plus the width will leave us with the number one hundred forty four thousand. Rev. 21:16 The immense size of the city is astonishing. If it were set down on the United States it would almost cover the entire country. Then, it would be as high as it is wide and long. The wall likewise has the stamp of one hundred and forty four on it. The seal of the one hundred forty four thousand is indelibly stamped on the city. THE CITY IS THE APEX OF ALL THAT IS SPIRITUAL. There is no building in it set aside for a Temple or building used for worship. The whole of the city is the dwelling place of the Lord. It is His house and place of His abiding presence. The Father, the Lamb and the Holy Spirit are the Temple of the city. There is no need for any other. Rev. 21:22 The beauty, the majesty, the glory of that city is the Lord of glory. The created light bodies will no longer be needed as He who is LIGHT now inhabits the city in all of His splendor and glory. There is no way that words can convey the mighty wonder of this glorious city. The closest we can come to it is the brilliant shining of the sun. But, this city in all of its shinning glory will far outshine the sun. It is here that the words of Paul may be applied that, the eye has not seen, the ear has not heard nor has man imagined that which the Lord has prepared for those who love Him. 1 Cor. 2:9 But the Lord does reveal His plans and His purposes to His people. He does not leave us ignorant of that which lies in the future. He has given us His Spirit, and that Spirit will lead and guide us into all truth. 1 Cor. 2:10 Our heats are filled with anticipation as we face the future and the blessed revelation of these mighty things. complete 9 Aug 2003 edited RA 20:52 16-09-03 07:56 10/11/2004 formatting edited eof
