XTRA, XTRA 2 On occasion, there is something special that I desire to share with you. So, in reminiscing, I recall a time before TV and wide spread radio receivers, when a newspaper boy walked down the middle of our street, crying out XTRA, XTRA. The subject I do not recall, but for special events an EXTRA was printed by the local newspapers and hawked on street corners and in the streets with the cry of “Xtra, Xtra read all about it.” Just this week, I had been asked to conduct a commemorative service for a long time friend and former parishioner. Believing that we are surrounded by a witness and testimony of the Lord which may be seen in His creation, I wanted something that would fit into the thought of death and resurrection, as revealed in nature. “For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.” Rom. 1:20 The invisible seen in creation. The Lord has placed Himself, His nature, His being in all that He has created. CELLS. Our bodies are made up of cells. Billions of them and billions of them die everyday. At the same time billions of them are made new. The old, in death, divides and produces the new. Death and resurrection take place within every single persons body, every day. The process of death and renewal [resurrection] could not be closer to us. Each of us, in our bodies are a witness to the fact of life out of death. “Death of a cell. Like all other living things, cells die. Each day, several billion cells in the body die and are replaced by cell division. Dead skin cells flake off. Dead cells from internal organs pass out of the body with waste products. The life span of cells varies. For example, white blood cells live about 13 days; red blood cells live about 120 days; and liver cells live about 18 months. Nerve cells live about 100 years.” World Book. Every creature, whether man or beast has the same procedure taking place in their flesh. “Therefore I will praise thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works, and that my soul knoweth right well.” Ps. 139:14 The invisible is clearly seen. formatted 07:31 11/02/2005
