THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 1 THE MOST AMAZING EVENT OF THE AGES. Christianity rejoices in the redemption which was purchased for us by the Lord Jesus. As always, it is the reason for the acquisition. The consummation of an act that is the crowing glory of the whole affair. In the case of Christ, it is His marriage and His Bride which is the glorious divine purpose of the whole of salvation. Spelled out for us and positively identified is the fact that in the giving of Himself as a sacrifice, he was to obtain a church, a bride, a very special part of His eternal plan. Acts 20:28 There are certain criteria which are to be found in the gathering together of His bride. Paul notes that they are those who have been called to this high and holy position in Christ. Also that they are a sanctified group of saints. 1 Cor. 1:2 It must be remembered that the Lord has established several requisites in order for one to even find a place in Heaven and eternity with Him. One of those important imperatives is that of holiness, “without which no man shall see the Lord.” That makes holiness to be of the utmost importance. Heb. 12:14 THE BLOOD OF THE GREATEST VALUE, EVER. The only source of salvation and life eternal. The only blood which was never contaminated by sin. The blood of Jesus is the only blood holy enough, pure enough to bring about the redemption of mankind. The precious blood of the Lamb of God, the blood without blemish or defect. 1 Peter 1:19 That blood exceeds the total wealth and value of this whole world, for that matter the whole of the universe. The shed blood of the Christ of God is sufficient for the saving of every individual who will ever be born into this world. He bore the guilt and condemnation of sin for the entire race of mankind. There is not a sin committed by any man, at any time, or any place but what He bore it in His own body on the tree, when He was crucified. 1 John 2:2 Unfortunately, not all will acknowledge His offering and therefore will not be saved. His blood is the blood of cleansing and deliverance from all sin. He forgives the past sin and grants us strength to cease from unrighteousness. 1 John 1:7 No person, male of female, of any race or religion has the compassion and love for people that is His. It was the great and all compassing love of God that enabled Him to make the supreme sacrifice. Thus providing for us a source of cleansing and deliverance from a guilty conscience. Rev. 1:5 Mind you, it was not the physical sufferings of the cross that created such agony in His being. It was the contamination, the filth of sin, of such a great proportion which contaminated His being. To Christ, the sinless one, the very epitome of all that is holy and pure to suddenly be driven to such an extreme, whereby, He became the sin of the world was excruciating beyond any human comprehension. The purest became the filthiest. The righteous became the corruption of sin and iniquity. The suffering of the physical man was minor. Thousands of wicked sinners had been crucified. The suffering of Jesus was spiritual and to a degree that we may never fully comprehend. Do we understand the agony, the pathos of His words? “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me.” Mark 15:34 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 2 THE ULTIMATE MARRIAGE. The marriage of the Lamb is the highest example of true marriage that will ever exist. It is the result of the mighty love of the Lord for His creation. This marriage is between two beings who are of one Spirit and are filled to capacity with the love of the Lord. Their love for one another is absolute, it dominates their relationship. This is to be a true and most assuredly an everlasting marriage. The pronouncement is to made that, “the marriage of the Lamb is come.” Yet more wonderful is the blessed truth that the “bride has made herself ready.” Rev. 19:7 The preparation of a bride for a wedding may take years if not months. This marriage will definitely be over a measure of time and much putting in order. There must be a continual advancement in the preparations that go on. Readiness is indeed a watchword that is vital to the final ceremony. ARE WE WISE OR FOOLISH? There is no place for a person to ride the fence between the two categories of those who are called to the wedding. It is an either - or situation. It is a matter of being prepared or not prepared. Jesus, in speaking of the kingdom of heaven, likened it to ten virgins. Being virgins, they were all of one class, pure, clean and righteous in the sight of the Lord. The Apostle Paul had committed the church as “a chaste virgin unto Christ.” 2 Cor. 11:2 However, five were wise and five were foolish. Mt. 25:2 That creates a great difference between the two groups. Their wisdom was not in the things of this world but in that which was most vital, spiritual preparation for the coming event, of which they were all aware. Wisdom is an essential for every child of the Lord. Consider the contrast between wisdom and folly. Eccl. 2:13 THE TIME OF PREPARATION, IS NOW. This is an event which will take place in the end of the age, prior to the great tribulation. Also, it is not to be confused with the second coming of Christ. It is a ceremony that will precede the coming of Christ. Its consequences will be as a spiritual catalyst which will result in the final events of the ages. It is also noteworthy that they all had their lamps, with the anticipating that the bridegroom would come for them, in the night time. Jesus identified those who were His as the “light of the World.” Mt. 5:14 They were to fill a void left because He was to leave this world. They would take His place and become a witness and testimony, lights of truth to the world. That place has been filled by each succeeding generation of believers who “shine as lights in the world”. Phil. 2:15 The difference is defined by a single commodity, oil. Oil for their lamps. It shows that they had absolutely no thought for the future. No vision of that which was to come and consequently absolutely no readiness for the most important event of their lives. They knew that oil was unreservedly essential for the continuance of the flame in their lamps. Yet through neglect, indifference or even the lazy spiritual attitude of their hearts, they ignored the very thing with which they could not, dare not, be without. The most important essential, oil. Mt. 25:3 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 3 NO OIL, VERSUS OIL. How strange, yet so typical of the way the Lord does things, is the importance of oil in our economy today. In many ways it is a driving force causing wars and inflation. It has a very strong grip on the world of today. The wise made certain that they carried with them an extra source of their oil supply. Lamp oil became the deciding factor in their acceptance or rejection by the bridegroom. Pure olive oil was required of the people as a fuel to keep the lamps burning in the tabernacle and the temple. It was accordingly associated with worship. The olives were beaten and the oil pressed out of them producing a clear oil that literally shined. Ex. 27:20 This anointing oil and its use for the lamps is a type of the Holy Spirit . The unity of the brethren is exemplified by the holy anointing oil which was used to anoint Aaron for the priesthood. Ex. 29:7 likewise the prophets, 1 Ki. 19:16 and kings in Israel. 1 Sam.10:1, Ps. 89:20 THE KEY TO BEING A MEMBER OF THE BRIDE IS THE HOLY SPIRIT. John’s baptism was in water which is an element of this world. The baptism which Jesus gives is of the Spirit and is of the world to come. It is heavenly. It is the Spirit of the Lord Himself who enters into the recipient, purging his spirit nature with the fire of the Spirit, while filling the individual with a heavenly atmosphere. It is called a baptism because one is literally inundated with the Spirit of the living Lord. He comes upon us and fills ever fiber of our inner being. John said that the baptism which Jesus would introduce would be “with fire.” A most wonderful fire. Powerful yet amazingly soothing and peaceful. The fire, the heat, the burning may be felt but it is not hurtful nor yet destructive to the person being filled with the Spirit. Mt. 3:11 We are the lamps, the Holy Spirit is the oil and without Him every light will dim, flicker and die. In His letter to the Ephesians, Paul urged them to be filled with the Spirit. One translation gives it as, be ye being filled.” In other words a continuous and consistent revelation and infilling of the Spirit. Eph. 5:18 It cannot be over emphasized that the constant infilling of the Spirit is an absolute must. The Holy Spirit is a very special gift from our heavenly Father and is given to all who would ask the Father for that precious gift. Luke 11:13 The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth. He will speak the truth and make the truth know unto those who welcome Him into their lives. When it is He who reveals the truth unto us, how can we know truth unless the revelator makes it plain unto us? How can we walk in the path of righteousness unless we have the guide of all truth with us? He will not exalt Himself nor speak of Himself, but will glorify the Lord Jesus and make Him known to all who seek after Him. The five foolish went astray because they did not have the proper and true guide. They were good women but did not remain Spirit filled. The wise were prepared in every way for the advent of the bridegroom. Their lamps were shinning brightly, illuminating their path, and attracting the bridegroom to the source of light that appeared before him. They were walking in the light of the Lord and on the right highway. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 4 THE BRIDEGROOM TARRIED. The day, the hour very obviously was not known by the virgins. Their hearts were filed with anticipation for they had heard the call. Their part was to be ready, for the bridegroom was coming, only the hour had not been announced. The bridegroom was well in control of the hour of his arrival. To the virgins the time lapse was long and arduous to bear. Waiting is not a virtue that is possessed by all humanity. There is a number of end time events which seem to be “on hold.” Not to worry, the Lord has established a schedule and is always on time. The marriage of the Lamb will take place as He has predetermined it. Mt. 25:5 THEY ALL SLUMBERED AND SLEPT. Having the two groups among the virgins it would seem reasonable for those who had oil to remain alert and filled with anticipation. But, no, they all slumbered and slept. A drowsiness, a lethargy has crept into the church of today. While they teach and preach end time events, few really feel a concern or consider that we might be closer than we think. Actions speak louder than words. At a most decisive moment of His life, when He prayed in Gethsemane, as Jesus was committing His life to the death of the cross, the disciples who were with Him, fell asleep. Not once but three times. Mt. 26:40,43,45 The exhortation of Paul to the church at Thessalonica is most fitting, even for our day. We have come to the night time of the ages. A desire to sleep is natural to the night hours. But for the church it is a time to “watch and be sober.” 1 Thes. 5:6 Maintain a high measure of spirituality, be watchful, be prepared. THE MIDNIGHT HOUR. A uniquely strange hour for the bridegroom to put in an appearance, but when we see in the scriptures the actions of the Lord which took place at the midnight hour it is understandable. This hour of the night is a time of serious visitations from the Lord. Judgment upon the first born of Egypt was established to be the midnight hour. It was to be a time when there was a great difference made between those who worshipped the Lord and those who were heathen. The sign of a blood sprinkled door made the difference between life and death. Ex. 11:4 A very close parallel to the marriage is found in the love story of Ruth and Boaz. During the harvest season. Ruth laid herself at the feet of Boaz while he slept in the harvest shelter. At midnight Boaz discovered her at his feet, covered by his robe. Ruth 3:8 The marriage of the Lamb will take place during the last day harvest of the souls of the world. The bride will be at His feet. Covered by His robe of righteousness. Paul and Silas, singing, praying and rejoicing in prison at the midnight hour caused an earthquake at the prison. The end result was that the prison keeper and his family came to know the Lord. He befriended them. Cleansed their wounds. Took them into his house and fed them, all the time rejoicing in his newly found salvation. The Lord has a way of doing things when we least expect them to happen. Acts 16:23-34 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 5 HERE'S THE BRIDEGROOM. The word “cometh” is a word supplied by the translators. It was not in the original language. There is something about the translation of the NIV that well fits the excitement of the moment. He is not a long way off, but as the cry indicates, here He is. No more waiting, no more slumbering and sleeping. This is the moment. He has come to claim His bride. What a shocking surprise, to awaken from sleep with the bridegroom already approaching. They are quickly urged to go out to meet him. Only a romantic could feel the intensity of this all important meeting. The excitement of a life time. The ecstasy of meeting the bridegroom face to face. The anticipation, the thrill and joy of looking forward to a life together. THE VIRGINS AROSE. All ten feeling the thrill of the wedding ceremony. Their lamps are now being trimmed to maintain their brightness and shinning. No doubt, some last minute primping has gone on. Then suddenly tragedy strikes. Five lamps begin to flicker and die. Five suddenly find themselves unable to proceed to meet the bridegroom. There is no opportunity to borrow from the five wise for they have brought only sufficient for themselves. The five foolish are forced to go out and seek oil for their now, dim and dying lights. While they were yet searching for someone who would sell them oil, the bridegroom arrived. The five wise were ushered, joyously into the banquet hall for the glorious wedding feast. Mt. 25:7-10 “AND THE DOOR WAS SHUT.” Those on the outside were excluded, permanently, from all the festivities of the hour and shut off from the wedding. There is something so final about the door being closed. It involved even a further separation. CATASTROPHE. When the five foolish arrived they came up against that “shut door.” Their cries of Lord, Lord [Kurios, Kurios, meaning, from Mr. to supreme in authority.] A plea using words which are not unfamiliar. Jesus used them in relationship to a group of people who will also find themselves excluded, even from heaven itself. They were religiously active and accepted by their contemporaries, but not by the Lord. He will give them the same answer that is given to the foolish virgins. “I never knew you.” Mt. 7:21-23 Their main problem was a lack of obedience to the will of the Lord. The foolish virgins were heard and responded to, but certainly not with the words that they had hoped to hear. They were closed off from the ceremonies and now they are rejected. Mt. 25:12 They are left to face consequences which are of the very worst kind. They are the remnant of the Bride/Church. While the bride is taken by the Lord into a place of safety and security for the length of the tribulation period. Rev. 12:6 The remnant will face the initial onslaught of the dragon, the devil, as the reign of the antichrist begins here on earth. They will know a conflict such as has never been on the face of the earth and will give their life as a martyr. Rev. 12:17 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 6 A CAUSE OF GREAT REJOICING. The marriage of the Lamb, the Lord Jesus. The importance, the high esteem and statutes of the Lamb in the program of the Lord cannot be over estimated. Jesus, the Lamb of God is the vital component of all that involves the salvation of mankind and their hope of things eternal. It was the privilege of John the Baptist to introduce Him to Israel as the Lamb of God. The only one who can extract man from the guilt and condemnation of sin and iniquity. John 1:29, 36 The center piece of heaven, the throne of the Lord, is resplendent with the Lamb. He is yet seen bearing the marks and evidence of His supreme sacrifice. The blood of Christ graces the throne. The Lamb stands alive, yet giving great witness and evidence of the cost of redemption. Rev. 5:6 The Lamb is the object of worship and praise. The twenty-four elders pay their respects to the Lamb who had redeemed them. These men are given great status in the leadership of the occupants of heaven throughout eternity. Their work commenced on earth, in directing the church, now it will continue eternally. In spite of their exalted position, on their thrones, which surround the throne of the Lord, they literally fall down before Him in adoration and praise. Having instruments of music, they sing a new song unto the Lamb, proclaiming His worthiness. Rev. 5:8-9 THE TIMING OF THE WEDDING. In studying the Book of Revelation, it must be remembered that the book is not written in sequential fashion. It covers a number of visions that were given to the Apostle John on the island of Patmos, which he recorded, giving us the Book of Revelation. Consequently, the marriage of the Lamb as stated in chapter nineteen is not an event which will take place at the conclusion of all that is stated in the book. The marriage must take place prior to the beginning of the tribulation, not at its conclusion. The married “body of Christ” is depicted in chapter twelve, as a wedded woman. She is the bride of Christ. Concerning this woman, she is not Mary, the mother of Jesus. The revelation is not a book of history, but rather, an unveiling. [Greek. apokalypsis, the removal of the veil.] Something that was secret, now made known. The book is variously stated to have been written between AD 68 to AD 96, with the latter being more acceptable. This would preclude any of its visions relating to the past. Jesus had been born, lived His life, died, was buried and raised by the glory of the Lord, long before the writing of the book. The child born in Revelation twelve is not Jesus. Consider the language of the book. It is written concerning, ”things which must shortly come to pass.” Rev. 1:1 “The time is at hand.” Rev. 1:3 “The things which shall be hereafter.” Rev. 1:19 “Must be hereafter.” Rev. 4:1 “For the time is at hand.” Rev. 22:10 All of these verses project the book out into the future from the moment of it being deliver to John. In relationship to our subject, we are living in the days of the preparation of the bride, for “His wife has made herself ready.” Rev. 19:7 Note she is no longer called a bride but now a wife. One not newly married. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 7 A CONSUMMATED MARRIAGE. A true marriage. The marriage of which every other marriage was but a minor example, however good and proper. It must be noted here, that this is not the moment of the wedding. The NIV translates Rev. 19:7 as a past event. “For the marriage of the Lamb HAS come.” Of this, W. E. Vine says, “The aorist or point tense indicating an accomplished fact, the Bride is called His Wife.” Aorist- Is a Greek tense simply expressing past action. The importance of what the Lord has in store for His church cannot be over emphasized. The event, the climax of the ages, is quickly approaching. The very thought of such a stupendous change, as is necessary, taking place in today's church only points out the seeming impossibility of such a glorious occurrence taking place. Hidden within all that chaff that is a part of the church today, is that most precious wheat and at the proper time the Lord will separate it unto Himself. The precious mystery of the relationship between the Lord Jesus and His Bride will be revealed in its fullness. While Paul calls it a hidden thing, a secret, a mystery, it is proclaimed repeatedly by the written Word. It is seen in prophecy and shadow, by example and fact. Jesus will have a Bride. Eph. 5:32 Two shall become one. A perfect union of two individuals whose temperament, likes and dislikes, desires and actions are identical. All that the Lord Jesus is, will be the nature and likeness of the Bride. She must become like Him in order to become His wife. The King of kings will not marry a commoner. He will marry a nation who will have been made by Him to be Kings and Priest unto the Lord. A MOMENT OF ABSOLUTE SILENCE IN HEAVEN. A time of complete silence in the kingdom of the Lord. No voices raised in worship or praise. No songs sung nor music of any kind. Total quietness for the space of one-half hour. Rev. 8:1 This has to be the time of a great happening for such a condition to prevail. Its very silence would define it to be an extremely solemn and awesome interval. To comprehend the importance of this silence we are left the responsibility of comparing and searching through the scriptures for an answer. Total, complete silence is indicative of the presence of the Lord. Particularly so when He is in His holy temple. Hab. 2:20 Our thoughts immediately question, what is His temple? It is Paul who answers for us by stating that, the body of the redeemed is to be the temple of God. Also that the Lord, by His Spirit, will inhabit that cleansed and sanctified building of the Lord. The temple is holy and you are that temple. 2 Cor. 3:16-17 Once again, he covers the subject of identifying the temple of the Lord. He states that it is a group of sanctified people who are bound together by the Lord. A building “fitly framed together” that has grown into that holy temple of the Lord. Eph. 2:21 A gathering of the redeemed and Spirit filled whom He will grace with the completeness of His presence and glory. Their destiny is to be the place of the habitation of the eternal, ever living Lord. What a glorious holy, high calling. Eph. 2:22 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 8 HOLD YOUR PEACE. A condition that prevails because of the presence of the Lord. Hush, hold your tongue because of the awesome closeness of the living Lord. The glory, the majesty of the Lord is such an impressive appearance that it causes one to be silent. Zeph. 1:7 While the words of Zephaniah were directed at the people of his day, there is a familiar ring to his words in relationship to the marriage of the Kings son. Frequently the prophets of old, while addressing situations that related to their day, speaking by the Spirit, they would interject a message for the future as well. THE KINGDOM IN A PARABLE. All parables spoken by the Lord Jesus contained vital truths. The story He told of the marriage of the son of a king shows in great detail the condition of the hearts of those found in the church, today. Most people would be happy, maybe even proud to be invited to the wedding feast of some great person who was of prominent standing in the community. Not those of whom Jesus spoke, they refused to come. To be unable to attend, is one thing, but to blatantly refuse to attend is insulting. Mt. 22:2-3 For the second time an invitation is extended, perhaps to people of lower status. Note, the statement is made that the sacrifices necessary were all made and the wedding dinner was ready. Here we see the similarity with the prophecy of Zephaniah. Injury added to insult. Not only did they refuse. They made a joke of the whole affair. Each one continuing with their daily routine. Those who had little better to do began to beat and even killed the messengers of the king. What stupidity, do they for one moment think that a king will not retaliate? Mt. 22:4-6 Sure enough, at a time that should be a time of rejoicing the wrath of the king was made manifest. The judgments of the Lord will come upon the world of the antichrist after the marriage of the Lamb. During that period of time known as the great tribulation. The kings sent his armies. They killed the murders and burned their city to the ground. The Lord is long-suffering but there is a day of retribution. Mt. 22:7 The third and last invitation is extended. It is stated that those who belong to the previous categories were not worthy. Mt. 22:8 They were the religious leaders, the politicians, the well known and famous. No doubt many of whom had associated many times with the king. This time the invitation is extended to the whosoever will. Anyone found on the highways and byways was to be made welcome to the wedding feast. Like a purse *seine gathers in fish of every species, so the servants of the king brought them into the courts of the king. How awe stricken most of them must have been. They were in the courts of the king. An area of life that was foreign to most of them. Now they were his guests, perhaps even to be made his friends. The mixed multitude, the good and the bad, are now situated in “high places.” Mt. 22:9-10 Unfortunately for one man. He did not have on a wedding garment. A "seine" is a special kind of fishing net, designed to not allow any fish to get away, hung vertically in the water with floats at the top, and weights at the bottom, it is often trawled, attached to two fishing vessels. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 9 THE ARRIVAL OF THE KING. He came among his guests to greet and welcome them. No doubt that he was grateful for their willingness to attend the wedding feast. Mingled in the midst of the guests, to his consternation, he found a man without the wedding garment. Mt. 22:11 This man was not involved in the wedding party, in any fashion. He was but a guest. It was the custom at a grand affair such as this for a garment of white to be furnished and worn by all the guests. To refuse to wear it for whatever reason, was a gross affront. The reasons for the actions of this person could be many. He could have felt that what he had on was more costly and elegant than the wedding garment. He could have purposely declined wearing it as a direct insult to the king. It could have been that he was just plain ignorant. What ever his reasoning, he must now bear the consequences. It is worthwhile to note that the king called him, Friend, or companion. Mt. 22:12 The word does not express a close friendship, but only a recognition of his presence. Certainly, the question of the king does not contain hostility but a seeking for an answer. The attitude and reasoning of the man obviously was of a wrong nature and feeling. Guilt and condemnation of such magnitude swept over the man that he was incapable of uttering a word. He could absolutely not verbalize an excuse of any kind. “He was speechless.” TRAGIC RESULTS. So serious was the infraction of the individual that it resulted in great punishment. He was to be bound hand and foot, losing all ability to resist while being brought into complete submission. He had no more control over his destiny. Mt. 22:13 He is thrown into a condition of “outer darkness.” He is completely separated from the joys, the merry making and the celebration of the wedding feast. Jesus referred to the time preceding the “outer darkness” as the “beginning of sorrows.” Mt. 24:8 Which is where we are right now in the plan and purpose of the Lord. Yet to come is the “outer darkness” which is the tribulation period. The original children of the kingdom will occupy the time of the “outer darkness.” Mt. 22:13 The seventy week prophecy was for them. The three and one-half year ministry of the Lord Jesus completed the first half of the seventieth week. The last half is the three and one-half years of the tribulation coinciding with the reign of the antichrist. Dan. 9:27 It could well be said that the great tribulation will be a time of hell on earth. All the forces of wickedness and evil will be loosed upon the inhabitants of the earth. The “outside” portends the most wicked and vile of human kind. They will also associate with the lowest and wildest of the satanic spirit world. Wickedness will know absolutely no restraints. The very worst of the worst of the ages will run rampant in the great tribulation. Rev. 22:15 Every cause possible of weeping will be prevalent. The extreme suffering and sorrow will cause the peoples of the world to gnash their teeth. Both in anger and in great pain. The man of sin will perpetrate his will and his way upon the peoples of the earth. Be assured, that only an eternal hell can in any way be compared to the agony of the great tribulation. Make certain you escape it. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 10 CAUSE FOR REJOICING. A very special invitation to the daughter of Zion to enter into a time of gladness, anthems of praise to ascend unto the Lord. He has accomplished His purpose in His people. Zech. 2:10a The daughter of Zion identified by their response to the message of Christ; those who receive the salvation and work of redemption that is proffered them are to be rewarded, and are privileged to participate in His work. They are to be called the holy people, not because they are self-righteous, but because of His mighty work in them, in sanctification and purification. They are the blood washed who have been redeemed by the precious, priceless, blood of the Lord Jesus. They become a city that is ought after. The city that Abraham sought when he left Ur of the Chaldees. A city that fully knows the presence of the Lord. The New Jerusalem. Isa. 63:11-12 THE DWELLING PLACE OF THE LORD. The Lord promised that He would dwell in the midst of His holy people, which raises a question; just where is He? Is He afar off? Somewhere out there in the vastness of the universe? At times it seems that we are trying to call Him forth from that far off dwelling place. How futile, when all the time He is here. Paul made it quite evident that all humanity owe their existence to the One who is very Life itself. For, in the Lord we live, move, and have our being. Even natural life is totally dependent on His presence. Without His daily supply of light, air, and so on, we could not live on earth. He is Omnipresent, everywhere at one and the same time. Acts 17:27 His promise is that He, “will dwell in the midst” of His people. Zech. 2:10b JESUS PROMISED ANOTHER COMFORTER. One like Himself. Jesus promised that He would ask of the Father another, who would abide FOREVER. He was not to come and then disappear into thin air, visiting the early church just to get them started, then to leave and return unto the Father. No, He, the Spirit of Truth, does, and will remain with us forever. Now, this very moment of time He not only is with us, but He dwells WITHIN us. John 14:16-17 It is this closeness, this intimacy, this affinity with the Lord, that needs to be emphasized. It is not certain that we are fully aware of the tremendous contact and indwelling presence of Christ that is ours, even at this very moment of time. Paul said that not only are we the temple of God, but that now, “The Spirit of God dwelleth in you.” 1 Cor. 3:16 Seriously consider such a statement. It means exactly what it says. If we have been filled with the Holy Spirit, then He dwells within. He is our life. He motivates us. When the Spirit dwells within, He is in absolute control, or should be. Life takes on a whole new meaning. Where once we were overwhelmed with the carnal nature and the things of this world. Now, our joy is to live and walk in the power of the Spirit of the Lord. If the Spirit is not made welcome within, and if we do not recognize Him in accepting and acknowledging Him, then Paul said, we are none of His. Hard words indeed. Rom. 8:9 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 11 A CAUSE FOR EXCEEDING GREAT JOY. When the church awakens to the spiritual possibilities that the Lord has imparted to her, we will see a great harvest. His presence, in full measure, within the body of Christ can only result in the last great and glorious harvesting of the world for Christ. The LORD proclaimed that many nations would join to the LORD in that day. Zech. 2:11 The very nature, the character of the Lord is merciful. He is MERCY, itself. It is a divine principle that before judgment, the Lord visits with mercy. There is no question that the end time judgments of the Lord are about to break upon this world in the fullness of their fury. However, in and with great mercy the Lord has prepared a grand and mighty visitation of the Spirit. There are two harvests presented to us in the book of Revelation. The first is that harvest of the golden grain of the earth. The salvation, the redemption of all who will receive Christ as savior. It will take place prior to the great tribulation. Rev. 14:14-16 The second has its fulfillment at the close of the tribulation and will be the result of the final judgments of the Lord. Rev. 14:18-20 Today is the day of salvation. THE INHERITANCE AND CHOOSING OF THE LORD. Zechariah wrote of the action of the Lord toward both Judah and Jerusalem. Zechariah was a contemporary of Haggai. Their prophecies concerning Judah and Jerusalem were accomplished in the post-exile rebuilding of the temple and Jerusalem. Ezra 6:14 While so many focus on the natural people and city, the New Testament directs us in a different direction. For instance, “Who is a Jew?” Paul, who was a Hebrew of the Hebrews, a Pharisee the son of a Pharisee. Acts 23:6 Keeping the Law to the best of his ability, one who would possess real and complete knowledge of the question, gives us this answer. Pure and simple, a son of Judah is not one after the flesh but is of the inward man, the spiritual man. The promises now are to the spiritual man and not to the natural. The natural may become a spiritual man at any time. The invitation is still extended to them. Rom. 2:28-29 Otherwise their house is left unto them desolate. Mt. 23:38 JERUSALEM, NATURAL OR SPIRITUAL? Again, Paul is our source. In writing concerning Jerusalem he made it very evident that he considered the natural city to be comparable to Hagar. A city that is in bondage, spiritually. Gal. 4:22-25 It is no more acceptable to the Lord than any other major city of the world. It is not His favorite. It is not His pet. In great contrast is the spiritual Jerusalem, that which Paul called the spiritual mother of us all. Very obviously, he evaluated spiritual birth to be that which counts with the Lord. Gal. 4:26 Furthermore, he made a great difference between those born of the flesh and those born of the Spirit. Those who are of the Spirit are acceptable to the Lord and will have their part in the New Jerusalem of the book of Revelation. Those who do not participate in the new birth will be cast out. Rough, but every man has his opportunity to receive Christ. Gal. 4:30-31 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 12 A COMMAND FOR SILENCE. An order issued to the whole of the occupants of heaven. The Lord is about to bring to completion His work of the ages. To the redeemed, the consecrated, their silence will be that moment of wedded bliss. The marriage of the Lamb is come and the Bride has fully prepared herself. Don't be misled into thinking that the Lord will receive just any kind of person to be His bride. She will have attained the standard established for us, by being wholly sanctified, and washed by the Word of the Lord. The Lord does not establish standards that are too high for us to reach. He will present to Himself a glorious, radiant, luminous church, without stains, blemishes, wrinkles or any such thing that would mar its perfection in holiness. It will be made up of those who have attained the holiness and blamelessness of the Lord. Eph. 5:27 The Lord is stirred, He is moved in His heart to bring His program for this earth to its conclusion. It is the time of His visitation to the ungodly world. The consequences of sin will reach their climax. The Lord will execute His final judgments. THE LORD WILL SING TO HIS BRIDE. This is certainly to be a most amazing experience for all of heaven. His delight in the Bride will be expressed in a song of His love and appreciation for her. She is the joy and rejoicing of His heart. Zeph. 3:17 The majesty of His presence is made manifest, by His righteousness in her. Zeph. 3:5 NIV. The pleasure of the Lord is in the lives of His people who love and serve Him. He has promised that He will beautify the meek with His salvation. It may well be said that there never has been, nor will there ever be such beauty as that which is to be manifest in His Bride. Ps. 149:4 There is also a marginal reference to Zeph. 3:17 stating that “He will be silent in His love." GOD IS LOVE. His great and marvelous love is the revelation of His person and being. It is the very essence of His person. It is who and what He really is in His eternal character. Real love is only understood by a personal knowledge and relationship with the Lord Jesus. The magnitude of His love will be fully comprehended when that moment of silence arrives and the totality of His love is known by His Bride. 1 John 4:8 The Lord has destined His own to accept and be filled with that love. It is the basis of the presence of the Lord in the lives of those who are His. That love is also to be perfected, to be made complete in us. Oh what a statement John then utters, for he said, “as He is, so are we, in this world.” 1 John 4:17 Challenge above all challenges. AS HE IS. We know where He is, and that is in heaven. We are made to sit together with Him, in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Eph. 1:3 We know how He is. He has been raised from the dead with a body that is heavenly. We too, are now being blest with all spiritual blessings “in heavenly places in Christ.” Eph. 1:3 The Lord Jesus has preceded us and has opened a way, whereby, in this present life, we may experience what He already has become. His bride will achieve that very high spiritual status which will make her to be an integral part of Him. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 13 THE WEDDING GARMENT THAT SUPERSEDES ALL OTHERS. The Lord in His graciousness, love, and appreciation for His Bride, will bestow upon her a wedding gown that is absolutely the grandest ever. None other, however spectacular, can even begin to compare to it. It is of the finest of all linens. Rev. 19:8 Oddly enough the finest linen came from Egypt, [a type of captivity]. His church is brought out of captivity into the glorious liberty that is in Christ Jesus. Her garments are clean and pure. They also show her high and exalted position in the eternity to come. She is a leader in authority and spirituality, for she will have been made up of kings and priests unto the Lord. Rev. 1:6 All the work of the Lord always has the stamp of purity and righteousness. She is clothed in the righteousness of the saints. A shining example to all, and will be on display throughout the ages of eternity. Eph. 2:7 CLOTHED IN LIGHT. The whiteness, the brilliancy of her wedding garment is more than just a color. The word white in the Greek is, lampros, meaning to be bright, radiant, clear, gorgeous, magnificence, or sumptuous. This leaves little question as to the tremendous beauty of this Bride. Rev. 19:8 Following the exhortation of Paul, “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ”, we would anticipate that the bride would have the same appearance as the Lord Jesus. Rom. 13:14 Peter, James and John were privileged to see the Lord Jesus in His eternal glory on the mount of transfiguration. The glory that was manifest there was the eternal glory of the Lord. The clothing of the bride will be no less spectacular. She has put on Christ. The veil was removed and His disciples saw Him in all of His glorious majesty. The face of Jesus shone as the sun. His clothing, because of the power of the Spirit within Him, became as white as the light. Mt. 17:2 Shining, exceeding white as snow. Dazzling white NIV. Mk. 9:3 The Greek word for “white” is leukos and translates white or light. The word “light” is phos and means to shine or make manifest, especially by rays, also fire. Strong's Definitions. An even more wonderful translation is, “his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.” Luke 9:29 NIV. The KJV states that His raiment was white and “glistering.” We should not expect anything less when we see that the throne of the Lord is alive with “flashes of lightning” proceeding from it. Rev. 4:5a The Lord Himself is light, period. Not just spiritual light but He is the Light. All light emanates from Him. 1 John 1:5 The Lord has clothed Himself with light. Ps. 104:2 Moreover, He dwells in light, a place of light that is unapproachable by men. 1 Tim. 6:16 He is the Father of lights [note the plural]. There is no other source of light, of any kind, to be found anywhere in the universe. James 1:17 He has been light, everlastingly and eternally. It is His being, His essence, His character and ever shall be. He created light, for this world, before He created the light bearing bodies. Gen. 1:3 When the Lord clothes His bride she will be the most beautiful creature of all of His creations. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 14 THE CLEANLINESS OF THE BRIDE. She is the product of the Lord performing a full and complete work of redemption in her. She is totally sanctified, spirit, soul and body. The whole being having been brought into an absolute union with the Lord. The key is found in our experiencing His experiences. The life of the Lord Jesus being lived out in our lives. Paul said, “I am crucified with Christ.” Gal. 2:20 Creating a life of victory over the annoying “works of the flesh.” The ability to do so is in the crucified life. It is the living, the manifestation of the life of Christ in us, in its totality. Paul was not singled out as the only one who was to put the carnal man to death. He included the whole of the body of Christ by saying, that if we belong to Christ, then we too have crucified the flesh and all of its affections and lusts. Note that he said, they HAVE crucified the flesh, past tense. Gal. 5:24 This is not some kind of a super Christianity, it is normal, every day living for Christ. The physical being of Paul was still very much alive and active, as witnessed by his travels while preaching the gospel. He was then living a life that was diametrically opposite to his previous one. Christ was now alive in him. This is what the spiritual man desires. To have Christ manifest in our spirit nature. To live that blessed life of absolute faith and trust in the Lord Jesus. LIVE AND WALK IN THE SPIRIT. Being born of the Spirit, we embark on the most wonderful journey known to man. Everything that is desirable to the heart of man is found in that new life, the life of the Spirit. It is the will of the Lord that His people live and walk in the Spirit. Gal. 5:25 There is to be found perfect, complete, an unmitigated life style where there is full freedom from the law of sin and death. This is the freedom of reality. Freedom, such as is sought by this world, to commit every and all acts of sin and wickedness is not liberty or freedom, but is bondage. Sin binds. Sin makes mankind to be its slave. Jesus sets us free from the power of sin. He enables us to live free from those chains of unrighteousness that once dominated our lives. If He sets free from some iniquities, why not all iniquities? The Christian, living by the Spirit of the Lord need not sin every day in word thought or deed. That is defeatism and negates the power of Christ to deliver us from all sin. Rom. 8:2 Christianity is not a mediocre life that is to be lived by a dead or dying religious individual. It is a living and a life giving organism. It is time for the church universal to, “Awake to righteousness and sin not.” 1 Cor. 15:34 Every vital and necessary experience and gift has been made ready for full and absolute victory over the world, the flesh and the devil. Those who have been truly born of the Spirit and the Word are a victorious people and are listed in the Word as being victorious. 1 John 5:4-5 The greater one dwells in the spirit nature of those who are the children of the Lord. When He dwells within, He will demonstrate His ability to produce a life that is above the beggarly elements of this world. It is the Lord's will to perform His Word in His people and to lead them into a pure, sinless life. 1 John 4:4 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 15 A VERY SPECIAL CALL TO ZION. Normally a call to arise from sleep. In this case the problem is lethargy. Spiritual laziness. Complacency of heart and spirit. The message is directed to Zion and Jerusalem, both of which, in the New Testament represent the church and in particular the bride. Isa. 52:1 Strong gives us the meaning of Zion as being conspicuous, a monumental or guiding pillar. That makes it to be something that can be seen from afar and cannot be hidden. Jesus, in speaking about the Christian said, that as the light of the world, they are like a city set on a hill. Conspicuous from afar. Mt. 5:14 Jerusalem, the city of peace, the holy city. No longer is the emphasis on the natural city but now the spiritual city is brought into view. Heb. 12:22-23 IT IS TIME TO RENEW AND REVIVE SPIRITUAL STRENGTHS. The same warning is given to the church at Sardis. They are to stir themselves and strengthen those things which remain. Very definitely they had lost much. While directed to them personally, it may also be applied to any church, church age, or even any person who is caught up in spiritual slumber and sleeping. Rev. 3:2 The time has arrived to wear the wedding gown, the beautiful garments. Isa. 52:1 The robes worn as a sign of the office of the priest were made for, “glory and beauty.” The clothing identified the office of the person and were worn by none other than those who were called and anointed for the purpose of the Lord. They were identified as garments that were holy. Holiness is a major requirement to be in the bride of Christ. Ex. 2:2 There was also a consecration that was necessary for those who ministered before the Lord. Ex. 29:29 In the midst of a beautiful prophetic utterance pertaining to the work of the Lord Jesus and His church are these words. “He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, He hath covered me with the robe of righteousness.” Isa. 61:10 Salvation that is full and complete. That which transforms and makes new the total person. Filling them with a new life, a life that can only be found in the Lord Jesus Christ. THE CALL TO CONSECRATION. The plea of the Spirit may be heard in these familiar words, “present your bodies a living sacrifice.” The bride will know unrestricted commitment to the Lord, as a spiritual act in worship unto Him. She will no longer conform herself to this world but by the transformation of the Word and the Spirit she will be made like unto the Lord Jesus. Where there is a renewed mind, the thoughts and actions of the Christ are made manifest. Real fellowship with the Lord Jesus will completely alter ones manner of life and pattern of thinking. In this way we put to the test the fact of the will of the Lord, finding that it is His good and beneficial will. Also, doing the will of the Lord is a very agreeable and acceptable act to Him. Fulfilling the entire will of the Lord is a sign of the maturity and perfection which is vital for those who would desire a place in the bride of Christ. Rom. 12:1-2 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 16 THE CHURCH, CALLED TO BE HIS BRIDE. A call has been issued by the Spirit of the Lord, urging the church to participate wholly in all the facets of the high calling of the Lord, which is in Christ Jesus. The source of supply is none other than the great and divine power of the Lord, whereby, He has already made available ‘all things’ which are vital and necessary for life, natural life, but more importantly spiritual life with all its capabilities and power, equipped and called to demonstrate the godliness and holiness which is seen as the character of the Lord and of those who follow Him. Knowing the Lord Jesus is essential. Not just a casual knowledge, book knowledge or head knowledge, but a deep and intimate comprehension of His heart and desires toward His church. His love for His bride is not a light frivolous thing, but reaches a depth unknown to human love. His calling is to share and share equally, as His wife, in the immeasurable glory that is His. The most vivid imagination cannot conceive of the greatness of the glory which He is anxious to share with His called out one. His calling to His bride is to participate with Him in His virtue. While virtue has come to mean those things that pertain to goodness, honesty and decency. The Greek meaning of the word is manliness or valor. How fitting, for it takes courage to stand up to one’s convictions when confronted by temptations, testing and trials. 2 Peter 1:3 PARTAKERS OF THE DIVINE NATURE. Who can fathom the magnitude of such an amazing promise? Promises that exceed greatness, for they are beyond measure. They are of such a great value that their worth cannot be ascertained, for they are godly, heavenly and eternal. They lead and guide one into an association with Christ that is unconditional and limitless. A partaker is one who fellowships and is a companion, sharing together in all things. STOP, meditate on that which is promised. You are invited to be an associate, partaking fully, in the Spirit and nature of the Lord Jesus. It is the privilege of possessing His ‘divine nature’ that is being offered to the church. But you see, even an understanding that such magnanimous promises are available is not grasped by many in the church. They read the same Bible, but their spirits are closed to the revelation of the Spirit. They have no vision for a completed work of the Lord which would result in a perfect church, even though the Word proclaims it. Likewise, unless one has escaped from the corruption that is in this world there is no way that they can see that which the Lord has prepared for those who love Him. 2 Peter 1:4 Jesus said not one jot nor tittle would pass away until all be fulfilled. The Lord has a definite purpose in developing a glorious church for this end of the age. It is the climax of the ages. The fulfillment of His purposes in the whole plan of the salvation of mankind. The greatest revelation in the Word of the Lord is the elevation of the redeemed and holy, to be His companions, friends and everlasting bride. Without a vision the people perish. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 17 THE PROCESS OF PARTAKING OF HIS HOLINESS. Those who would partake of His divine nature, must first face the cleansing of the washing of the waters of the Word. Correction is a nasty word to a rebellious and obstinate generation. Unfortunately, the attitude of the world can and does creep into the church. It is certain that we do not always recognize the correction of the Lord, but seem to be prone to blaming it on hard luck or circumstance and other sources. Proper chastening, particularly when from the Lord, has a tremendous benefit in His people. It is for our own good and spiritual advancement and growth. The ultimate being, that we are privileged to become one with Him, in His holiness. Holiness is not something that He expects us to achieve by our own efforts, but His desire is to share with us of that Holiness which is His very own essence. This is a privilege, not a duty. It is an invitation to become more like the Lord. How wonderful, that the Lord is so willing and desirous to share the entirety of Himself with His people. It is time that we take advantage of the precious, priceless gifts of His own nature so freely offered to us. Heb. 12:10 HOLINESS IS EXTREMELY VALUABLE. Of such great importance that the Word proclaims it to be a necessity in order for one to see the Lord. In words which are easily understandable it is stated that, “without holiness no man SHALL see the Lord.” Heb. 12:14 Holiness is fruit and evidence of the Christian life. It manifests the fact that one has been set free from the bondage of sin and iniquity and is now living a life that is godly, in Christ Jesus. The reward is the greatest, eternal life. Rom. 6:22 The idea of achieving holiness in the Lord is not a frivolous thing. Too often it is treated as an antiquated teaching from the past and that it is not relevant for today. Much the contrary, it is of utmost importance for the church of today. As definite as any call of the Lord to His people is the call to holiness. All carnal and spiritual impurities are to be laid aside that we might fulfill the call of the Spirit of the Lord to holiness. 1 Thes. 4:7 Most assuredly, if we are born of the Spirit, we will exemplify the life of Christ in our daily life. Our conduct will be according to the Word of the Lord. Most certainly a high standard, but we are not dealing with the beggarly elements of this world but with those things which produce life eternal. Peter's words almost sound like a command, if not, then a strong exhortation to live our lives here in the holiness of the Lord, 1 Pet. 1:15 He also draws a comparison between the brevity of those things which are worldly and that which is eternal. At the same time he issued a challenge to live a life of holy conduct and godliness. 2 Pet. 3:11 Finally, one's behavior denotes their experience with the Lord. If their life follows a pattern of goodness and righteousness it is apparent that they know the Lord. While, those who are bent on doing that which is evil and contrary to the teaching of the Word, make it self evident that they have not seen the Lord. They have no concept of who He is nor of the holiness that is His very nature. 3 John 11 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 18 REDEMPTION AND THE ACT OF ADOPTION. The Lord had a beautiful purpose in mind when He conceived the work of redemption through the blood of the Lord Jesus. That redemptive act made it possible for Him to embrace the whosoever will and produce a means whereby He could adopt those who are saved. Adoption was solely the privilege of the Israelites. Rom. 9:4 Now, adoption is no longer after race but by grace alone. Though they were originally adopted because they were a descendent of Abraham, now, even those under the Law need redemption by the blood of the Lord Jesus to maintain the relationship of adoption. Gal. 4:5 During the gospel dispensation the only door for adoption is opened only to those who are Spirit born. At which time we, both Jew and Gentile, are adopted into the great family of the Lord and are considered to be full fledged Sons of the Most High. What a glorious gift the Lord Jesus has purchased for us. Rom. 8:15 SONS, RECEIVE THE SPIRIT OF HIS SON, THE LORD JESUS. Having received the same spirit that was in the Lord Jesus we will conduct ourselves in a manner that will show forth the majesty and glory of His life. It is impossible to be His son and not act and live our lives in a manner that is identical to the type of life that He brought into existence. As sons of the Almighty we have the right to approach Him and know that we may address Him as Our Father in the most intimate manner, in full assurance that He hears us and receives us joyfully. Gal. 4:6 “If Christ be in you.” Rom. 8:10 The earthly name of the Son of the Father was proclaimed by the angel of the Lord to be Jesus, Joshua or redeemer. Mt. 1:21 The Father went beyond that and bestowed the name of Lord and Christ upon Him. With such an important act the Father showed Jesus to be deity. He granted Him to be called Lord, which is the name of the Father. Isa. 42:8 By virtue of His anointing with the Holy Spirit he was made to be the Christ, the anointed one. The Father therefore made Jesus to be all that may be conceived in that name which was so majestically conferred upon Him. Acts 2:36 Now, for all the sons of the heavenly Father, it must be Christ who is residing in each and every one of them. The resulting life of Christ, shaped and formed within the life of the believer, is His life manifest in power and victory. If Christ is truly living in us there is victory over the flesh. The mighty presence of the Spirit will nullify the works of the flesh, the carnal man. That which is not possible for the natural man is made to be the norm for those who will live and walk in the Spirit of the Lord. The secret of living a life according to the teaching of the Word is found in the Christ filled life. The presence of the Holy Spirit makes it possible to be more than a conqueror. The blessing, the preciousness of living for Christ may only come to its full fruition in those who have died to the ‘old man,’ that is the old sinful nature and that is impossible, without the presence of that glorious Christ dwelling within. Rom. 8:10 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 19 SELF EXAMINATION URGED. A time of deep, personal heart searching. Evaluating ourselves, not according to our standards, nor yet the standards of our church. Rather, taking the Word of the Lord and allowing its marvelous light to shine into every nook and cranny of our heart. 2 Cor.13:5a We dare not measure ourselves by ourselves, nor compare ourselves with others, for that is most unwise. 2 Cor. 10:12 The Lord is building His temple, of which we all may have a part, providing we measure up to the standard which has been established. In the tabernacle and the temple the measurements of each and every curtain and board were to be identical. Ex. 26:2 How much more is there a permanent measurement fixed whereby we may compare ourselves. Every time we read or hear the Word of the Lord we are having the measuring rod applied to our lives. Self measurement is a matter of spiritual self preservation. We dare not delude ourselves into thinking that we are more spiritual than we really are. Therefore, we put ourselves to the test to see whether or not we are really in the faith. The ultimate goal is, ‘Christ in you.’ If He is not, then we have deceived ourselves and according to Paul are reprobate. 2 Cor. 13:5b Hard words indeed. However the consequences are eternal. If we really belong to the Lord, we will do things His way and not ours. THE TEMPLE OF THE LORD MUST PASS INSPECTION. That it will be thoroughly examined there is no question. The temple of the Lord, that which is eternal and is His Bride must be measured. In the Book of Revelation the temple [the Bride] is first measured with a reed. Rev. 11:1 The Greek word, kalamos is used here and is translated in 3 John 13 as a writing pen. We may then consider the reed to be the Word. The reed was evident in the life of the Lord Jesus. In mockery, as the scepter of a king. Mt. 27:29 In derision and beating. Mt. 27:30 In cruelty, they gave Him vinegar on a sponge on the end of a reed. Mt. 27:48 He suffered for us and is thereby made to be our measurement. The Bride is once again measured, this time the finished product, the New Jerusalem. Measure by a golden reed, the reed of the greatest intrinsic value. Rev. 21:15 THE MEASURE OF A MAN. Granted, a very special man. However, the same Spirit that was His guide and source of power is made available to all who call upon His name. The goal is to acquire the same stature that is to be found in the Lord Jesus. He is our champion. He is the one whom we must desire to emulate in this world. The life, the maturity, the stature that He demonstrated in His life on earth is the divine requirement for a woman who will be suitable enough to be His Bride. The word stature indicates a companion who is comparable. One who is of the same power and size. True, the standard is high but the prize is of the utmost value and is eternal. Eph. 4:13d To be made like unto the Son of God is the heart cry of every true Christian. The future of the church is exciting as we continue to walk in the light of His Word and allow it to do its work in us. There are no limits to the abilities of the Lord. He has declared it and it shall be. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 20 NOW AND THEN. Too often the ‘quickening’ of the body is relegated to the resurrection of the dead in the end of the age, which is the then, the future. Most assuredly something to look forward to. It will indeed be a most glorious moment of time. However, Paul had reference to a much more immediate work of the Spirit in the lives of the people of the Lord. The Holy Spirit, is also the Spirit of resurrection and new life. It was the Spirit which raised the Lord Jesus from the dead. Now, the promise is that if that same Spirit dwell in us He will also quicken our mortal bodies. That is, bring to life, refresh, awaken, revitalize the mortal body. Very definitely the Spirit of the Lord creates life in the spirit nature of man. This is a quickening that takes dominion over the weariness of the body refreshing and reviving it. Rom. 8:11 A PROCEDURE NOW IN ORDER. That which the Lord has accomplished is readily made available now. Speaking in the present tense, that is the current time, this very moment, Paul makes it evident that the thrust of life giving power is for us now, at this present instant of time. He said that “even when we were dead in trespasses and sin” that we were quickened and delivered from sin and death by the power of the Spirit. We then, have been “quickened together with Christ.” Eph. 2:5 We have been raised together with Him. He has caused us to sit in heavenly places in Christ. Eph. 2:6 The scripture proclaimed it, now we have to affirm it for ourselves. The work has been finished. The promises of the Lord are yea and amen in the Lord Jesus. He is not a man that He should lie. The benefits are all here waiting for the person of faith to accept, believe and receive them. IS IT POSSIBLE? Can there still be, hidden somewhere in the body of Christ, those who travail in the Spirit? The natural process of life is an example of the spiritual life that is to function in the body of Christ. As natural birth is by travail, so likewise is spiritual birth. It is written concerning Melchisedec [who is none other than the Lord Jesus], who in the days of His sojourn on earth offered up prayers. His prayers were not just words arranged in a manner that He thought would please His Father. He prayed, petitioning the Father, with strong cries, with agony of spirit. His prayer was not a pretty prayer but boisterous and clamorous. Heb. 5:7 With much anguish of body, soul and spirit Jesus prayed intently. The travail of His soul was greater than words can express. His entire being was involved in a prayer of travail. An awesome experience, exerting such great pressure that the pores of His skin discharged blood. That is the real example of the prayer of travail. Luke 22:44 The intensity of such a prayer can only be motivated by the cry of the Holy Spirit resident within the body, the church. Revival is born in travail. Souls are brought into the kingdom by means of travail. No one is born into the family of the Lord except, somewhere in the church there is travail. Where is it? “As soon as Zion travailed she brought forth her children.” Isa 66:8 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 21 THE PRAYER OF INTERCESSION OR TRAVAIL. Such a prayer is one where the Spirit of the Lord is in absolute and full control. It is the cry of the Lord being expressed through an individual who is Spirit filled. The Holy Spirit will pray through the person, not only in their language or tongues but will ultimately lead them to a prayer involving crying and groaning which may not be discernible as words. Travail, is travail, whether in childbirth or in the ultimate, the highest order of prayer. It must be motivated by the Spirit. It can be frightening to those who are present. It can be grossly misunderstood, even by good spiritual leadership. It is not common but is vital. As none are normally born to the earthly family without travail, so none are born into the heavenly family, without travail. Rom. 8:26 INTERCESSION MADE FOR THE SAINTS. The Spirit, always knowing and understanding the will of the Father, is capable of motivating the body to prayer over situations of which they have received no news. The need can be great and must be met immediately, so the Spirit speaks to the heart to pray, sometimes for a person, sometimes for a situation. The body becomes a unit through the unity of the Spirit in praying one for the other. Rom. 8:27 More wonderful yet, is the fact that the Lord Jesus Himself is the active great High Priest before the throne of His Father. It is He and not any other who makes intercession for His saints. Some would entrust that position to others, but Jesus and Jesus alone has been designated to that status. He thoroughly knows and understands each side of the program, since He is both man and God. Rom. 8:34 THE TRAVAIL OF PAUL FOR THE GALATIAN CHURCH. The prayers of the Apostle had reached such a dimension that he called it travail. That there was a problem among them there is no doubt. They had those in their midst who would like to have led them back under the Law. Amazing, people once delivered from bondage will desire to return to the old life, but they did and they still do. His prayer for them is most informative. “I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you.” In this fashion he is demonstrating that spiritual birth is accomplished by spiritual travail. Travail results in birth. Furthermore, he sought that Christ might be formed in them. The babe is formed in the womb over a process of time. So the spiritual man must be made to be in the form and likeness of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is an imperative that the life of those born of the Spirit receive the spiritual shape and form which constitutes a follower of Christ. Gal. 4:19 It is in this process that the new man is formed and becomes dominant. Every child of the Lord is in the throes of a constant change, an act of creation that is changing their nature and character. The change comes by knowledge, a knowledge that we obtain from the Word of the Lord. The Word of the Lord will alter our life in every form, making it to be the life of the Christ of God lived in us. Changes have been made, and there are still changes being made until we reach His maturity. Col. 3:16 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 22 THE RICHES OF THE MYSTERY. In so many ways the Lord has chosen to impress upon His church that there is far more available to us, than what we have received. He is anxious to share the majesty of His eternal glory with His very own. All that He is, He desires to make known to His beloved. It is “Christ in you” which becomes the hope of receiving His glory. Col. 1:27 With the understanding that Christ means the anointing we rejoice in the privilege of being a vessel of the Lord. A container which He desires to fill to the very fullness of our capacity. Enlarge your capacity and receive more of Him. The amazing heart of the Lord is always astonishing. He has called us unto Himself as vessels that are to receive of His abundant mercy. Then, to top that off, He is constantly working in the life of those vessels that they might be fully prepared to receive His glory. Rom. 9:23 THE NEW WAY. The way of the Spirit. The life giving Spirit which is to be found only in the Lord Jesus causes us to serve and worship in “the newness of spirit.” Rom. 7:6 The new way begins with a spiritual birth. The glory and power of that new birth crates a totally new person. One who can now live a life that is in the Spirit of the Lord. John 3:6 It cannot be over emphasized that those who have truly been born of the Spirit will seek to be baptized in water. It is a definite and positive leading of that Spirit which is now progressively creating that new person within. While water baptism identifies one with the death of Christ - it is an act whereby we are to desert the old man and recognize the new in all of its glorious attributes - too often we fail to recognize the second portion of being buried with Christ in water baptism, and that is being raised TOGETHER with Him, that we might walk in that newness of life which is His. “Like as Christ.” Identically the same, the same experience, the same results. The new man is identified by his complete association with Christ. “Even so.” As He was raised in glory and majesty, triumphant over the all frailties and faults of mankind,” “EVEN SO,” we may now walk in newness of life. Rom. 6:4 Where are we? Where are we walking? Are we short changing ourselves? “If any man.” That includes all, each and every member of the body of Christ. If we are in Christ, the old has died. Without quibbling, the old life style must be abandoned, the Christian must die to that former life. Having left behind the old man with all of his ungodly ways, we begin to exercise the new life which is found in the Lord Jesus alone. Here, ‘all things’ become new. Not just a portion, but in totality. The direction of life here on this earth is drastically changed. What we once dedicated our lives to, we have now forsaken. Its pleasures are strangely removed by something far better. Attitudes are changed. Ambitions are changed. To try to combine the old life with the new is but to accomplish total failure. The two do not mix. One will dominate the other and eventually will crowd the other completely out of our lives. To try to maintain both the old and the new will only result in deterioration and loss. 2 Cor. 5:17 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 23 A SPECIAL MESSAGE TO THOSE WHO ARE RISEN WITH CHRIST. It is obvious that the Apostle anticipated that those in the body of Christ would have spiritual desires. His exhortation is - and this certainly applies to our day - that those who are risen with Christ would seek spiritual benefits, from above. The source was Christ, and the things sought were in the spiritual realm and not in the natural. Paul expected that the church would experience (in their spiritual life) the power of death and resurrection. That would have been to him, normal Christianity. Col. 3:1 Here is a very special Word for we who live in the Laodicean church age. Set, establish, fix your minds on those things which are from above. In direct contrast to those things which are of this earth and life. Col. 3:2 What ever happened, to seek ye first the kingdom of God? With its promise that all these things shall be added unto you. Mt. 6:33 Once I was young, now I am old but never have I seen the righteous forsaken or His seed begging bread. Ps. 37:25 The preachers of today are directing their sheep in the wrong direction when they encourage them to seek the riches of this world. The dead neither seek nor need anything from this current world. Those who are crucified with Christ and have died to the beggarly elements of this world no longer crave the pleasures of his world, pleasures which do not satisfy, even when they are achieved, they create a desire for more of the same. Spiritual life is found in those who have consecrated themselves to full and complete fellowship with Christ. Their lives are hidden in the secret place of the Most High. They dwell in Christ and He dwells in them. Col. 2:3 The question then is, is Christ our life? This is not speaking of a casual Christian life style, a pattern which many practice in these days. Spiritual matters find a low place, sometimes last on the do list. It is only if we have made Him, ‘our life,’ that we shall be united with Him when He shall put in His appearance. Then that blessed union will result in the complete glory of the Lord being revealed in His people. Col. 3:4 Ouch! Paul was too strict. Just think of such a suggestion as he made. Mortify, bring into subjection, subdue, deaden, deny the cravings of the flesh. The strong desires of the carnal man must be put aside if the life of Christ is to be made manifest. The two cannot coexist in the life of the Christian. The list that he supplies us of the works of the flesh (which are to be dealt with) is just as fitting for today as in his day. Sexual immorality, uncleanness (or impurities of a spiritual, mental or physical kind), lust or evil concupiscence which is a longing for that which is forbidden and covetousness or greed which he likens to idolatry or worship resulting in an exceeding strong desire for an object or thing. This kind of a sinful life most positively will evoke the wrath of the Lord upon those who do such things. The Lord has established the divine requirements for those to follow who would be His. He has not established a code of living that is beyond our reach for it is He who enables us to live the life that He has made for us. Col. 3:5-6 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 24 The past, and hopefully all in the past. The items a fore mentioned are the works of the flesh and the evidence of a life that is walking contrary to the Lord. They depict the place where we all lived at one time but now, thanks to the Lord Jesus they are in the past. Along with the pervious list, Paul now gives us the manifestations of the flesh, the inward carnal person, works that are to be put off or cast aside. Such as anger, indignation and wrath and its subsequent consequence if not controlled, rage or wrath. Malice, wickedness or depravity are also to be abandoned. Likewise, blasphemy or misuse of the name of God. Unclean, vile, filthy, suggestive communication not to proceeded from the same mouth and heart that praises the Lord. Lie not one to another. All elements of a worldly life that are to be abandoned by every child of the Lord. Col. 3:7-9 How extremely necessary it is that we now are clothed with that new man. Col. 3:10 The new man is the one who has put on Christ. He is a completely new creation, who is no longer controlled by the past life. He is free from its bondages. If not, then they most certainly may be fully liberated from the carnage of that old life. ALL things have now become possible for that new life that emulates the life of the Christ of God. The soul, the spirit, the mind are all renewed by the Spirit of the Lord. Our knowledge and acquaintance with Him is increased day by day as we seek His will and way from the Word of the Lord. His whole purpose is to create a people who are like Him in every aspect of the word, and in every detail. Col. 3:10 CHALLENGED TO BE ONE IN CHRIST. No racial or other divisions of any kind are to be found in the house of the Lord. Ingrained prejudice is not easily forgotten, but in Christ all are to become one and equal one to another. Now we see those aspects of the Christian nature that all this will produce for we are to reflect the high calling in Christ, as His elect. As the holy and beloved people we are to put on the very nature of Him who has called us unto Himself. We are to wear compassion, bowels of mercy, the identical compassion and mercy of Christ which He has so abundantly showered upon us, His kindness, His humility of mind, His meekness, gentleness and His patience or long-suffering, all of which we have abundantly received of Him. Of exceptional importance is the ability that He grants us to bear with one another and where there is a division or grievances the competence to forgive and forget is greatly like Him; it is an imperative for our own spiritual welfare. We are to forgive even as Christ forgave us. A forgiveness that is far greater than the offense. Amazingly, when all is forgiven the deeds never seem to have the same importance which they had while we still fussing over them. Col. 3:11-13 Most important is the force that motivates the laying off and the putting on of charity or love. First our love for the Lord Jesus. When His love is active in our hearts it becomes easier to love one another and in that fashion fulfill the law of Christ. It will weld the body into one unit and produce His Bride. Col. 3:14-15 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 25 SONSHIP ESSENTIAL. A change of status, from that of a servant, to being a fully accepted son and heir of God through the Lord Jesus Christ. Once again we are facing evidence of the high calling in Christ Jesus. The depths of the promises that the Lord has made to those who are His sons is absolutely immeasurable. It is utterly staggering the inheritance that has been prepared for those who are sons. Gal. 4:27 There is no limit, no end to the riches and possessions of the Lord, and they are all to be shared with His family; a situation of share and share alike. All who have been born of the Spirit are the sons of the Lord through faith in Christ. Gal. 3:27 Belonging to Christ is the assurance that we are of the seed of Abraham and therefore partakers of the eternal inheritance that He has prepared for His own. Gal. 3:29 THE DEATH OF CHRIST ACTIVATED THE TESTAMENT OR COVENANT. The covenant or contract has been brought unto effect by the death of the testator, the Lord Jesus. Its promises or covenant required the death of the one who had made the will. At His demise the full impact of the will or covenant promises were established and exercised. Every portion, every promise is now in full operation. Nothing is being withheld, every promise is available. Heb. 9:16-17 The blood of Christ, the only blood of redemption, is our assurance that all that had been promised has been obtained for us. His blood, is the blood of the eternal, the everlasting covenant. Heb. 13:20 All those who trusted in the covenant made with Moses may only be redeemed by the precious blood of the Lord Jesus. There is absolutely no other way of salvation. Because Jesus is the only mediator, those under the Law may only receive their inheritance through Him. Every person from earth, who is privileged to spend their eternity in Heaven, will do so through the virtue and power of the shed blood of the Christ of God. Heb. 9:15 JOINT-HEIRS. Totally equal, co-heirs, who receive in common. Fellow-heirs, inheriting together. What an astonishing act of the Lord, making His loved ones to receive all that He has received. There is no limit to the inheritance that is received through Christ; He has been appointed by His Father to be the heir of all things. Heb. 1:2 No good gift is withheld from a people who will truly walk with the Lord. Here is revealed the marvelous purpose of the Lord in calling forth a redeemed generation who will be privileged to bear the precise likeness of the Lord Jesus. He is designate as the firstborn, and it is stated that there will be “many brethren” or those who are of identical spiritual status. Rom. 8:29 The invitation is extended to all who will meet the divine requisite, to have a part, and to sit with Him in the Throne of the Lord. Rev. 3:21 There is no limit to the promises which make up the will of the Lord and its result in our receiving our inheritance in Him. The generosity of the Lord is overwhelming. His promises are far greater than what we have ever imagined. What a tremendous present and future the church has in Him. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 26 NOT YET MARRIED, NEVERTHELESS, SHARING. Paul speaks of the church as being espoused or engaged to Christ. 2 Cor. 11:2 To him it was an absolute and total commitment unto Christ. Under Jewish law in that day, the espousal was as binding as marriage. Note that Mary was not only espoused to Joseph but he is also called her husband. However, the marriage had not been physically consummated. Mary was still a virgin. Mt. 1:18-19 The church is considered dead to the Law, through the body of Christ, or through His death. In His death He satisfied all the demands of the Law and introduced Himself as the New Way, the way of life eternal by His resurrection. Therefore we are spiritually to be married to Him. Our thoughts, our motives, our actions are all to be built around the most intimate of associations, married to Christ. Rom. 7:4 The change that is brought about when one is born of the Spirit is astonishing. The Lord no longer sees us as being what we once were but so completely renewed that the church is considered to be a pure clean virgin. THE RICHES OF HIS MERCY AND GREAT LOVE. Poet and preacher have tried to convey the extent, the length, the breadth, the high and the depth of the Lord who is MERCY and LOVE, only to fall far short. It is amazing that He would care for fallen, corrupt humanity; but He does, and has centered His mercy and love upon them. While we were yet unborn, even untaught of and unknown by our ancestors, Christ had already made provision for a new life for us. For He has quickened, brought to life, those who believe in Him. We are together with Him, the benefactors of the power of His salvation and grace. Purchased and redeemed by His death, burial and resurrection that we may be ‘together with Him.’ By association, we are to be in full unity and fellowship with Jesus. Eph. 2:5 So complete is the union that He seeks with His church, that we have the privilege of having been raised together with Him. That means eternal life. The very life that is now His is also ours, when we are together with Him. Mind you, Paul is not speaking of a future time, in the sweet bye and bye. He is making this togetherness a fact for the now. Not only are we raised together with Him, but He has honored His people to sit together with Him in heavenly places. Eph. 2:6 We should be taking advantage of such grand and glorious promises as these. In the midst of the trials and difficulties of this life, we can be made aware of the glory of His presence. Consider that He has already blessed us with ALL spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. It is not necessary to die and go to heaven in order to have heaven in our hearts. Eph. 1:3 There is no limit to the ability of the Lord in manifesting His power and authority in the lives of His people. There is nothing impossible with Him. Our impossibilities are as nothing to Him. Jesus even said, that “nothing shall be impossible unto you.” Mt. 17:20 The challenge of the scripture is, “if thou canst believe, all things are possible.” Mark 9:23 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 27 THE LAW VERSUS FAITH IN RECEIVING THE INHERITANCE OF THE LORD. The promise of the Lord to Abraham was not given him through the Law for Abraham was never under the Law. He exercised faith and believed the Word of the Lord. Neither circumcision or the Law had any part in the promise of an inheritance “of the world.” Rom 4:13 The land of Canaan was given to Abraham as his earthly inheritance of land. Gen. 13:14-15 He was also to receive of the Lord the right of being a great nation, to have a great name and to be a blessing to the nations of the world. Gen. 12:2-3 His spiritual seed was to be as numerous as the stars of the heavens for number. The magnitude of this promise is staggering when we hear of the multitudinous number of the stars in the heavens. Gen. 15:5 The natural seed is also accounted for in the promise of the Lord using the sand of the sea. Gen. 22:17 The third measurement of his descendants relates to those who are of the seed of Ishmael and are accounted to be as many as the dust of the earth. Gen. 13:16 It is small wonder that the Lord would tell him that he would be the father of many nations, not just families or tribes. Gen.17:5 THE TRANSFER OF THE INHERITANCE. In the parable of the vineyard Jesus foretold of the action that would be taken by the people of that day, in crucifying Him. That which was sought after was the inheritance. It was in their minds that in deposing of Jesus they were doing God a favor and that the land would become theirs. While in actuality, just the opposite was true. The land was taken from them and given unto those who would see to it that the land was fruitful and that the owner would receive his portion. Mark 12:1-9 It is well that we hear what Jesus said concerning those who had been in power. “The kingdom of God shall be taken from you.” Once removed never to be returned to them again. An entirely new clientele are to receive and work the land, or receive the kingdom. For, the kingdom was to be “given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.” By a simple, straightforward statement Jesus excluded the one and embraced the other. The spiritual people, regardless of race, or any other division made by men, are they who will inherit the kingdom. Mt. 21:43 Jesus furthermore stated that the ‘children of the kingdom’ would be cast out into outer darkness. Excluded from any inheritance in the eternal kingdom of the Lord. Mt. 8:12 The scriptures are very plain when pointing out those who shall inherit the kingdom. In the first place, except a person is born of the Spirit they cannot even imagine that there be such a place as the kingdom of God. The kingdom is a spiritual kingdom. The unspiritual are unaware of its existence. John 3:3 Secondly, the New Birth, water and Spirit, is required of any and all who would desire to enter into that blessed kingdom. These are not religious requirements of church organizations but this is what the Word has designated as the way to inherit His kingdom. John 3:5 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 28 THE BRIDE, A COMMITTED BODY OF BELIEVERS. Sanctification and holiness is most necessary if we are ever to be a part of the body of Christ. It is the sanctified who are the recipients of the inheritance that is in Christ Jesus. Sanctification is the result of the ‘word of His grace’ being effective in the person who is reading it. The word is our source of strength and spiritual growth. Its guidance is vital to the building up of the body and bride of Christ. Acts 20:32 Jesus spoke to the need of those who are His followers being sanctified, by the truth, the word. John 17:17 He also spoke to His disciples of the fact that they had been cleansed by the Word which He had spoken unto them. It demonstrates the power of the Word to change and alter human lives. John 15:3 THE RICHES OF HIS GLORY. Wealth is a state that few do not desire. If it is the wealth and riches of this present world that is desired, then the benefit of them is short lived. If it is the riches of His glory that is sought after, then that will lead to eternal riches. It is the ‘riches of the glory of His inheritance.’ True riches, riches which will never be diminished nor fade away. Eph. 1:18 The admonishment of the Lord Jesus was that we lay up, for ourselves, treasures in heaven. Things of eternal value which cannot be destroyed in any manner. They will never be corrupted or demolished. Mt. 6:20 Of interest is His statement that the human heart is set on the things which they value the most. The heart and the treasure are bound together. Our hearts are either set on the things of this earth or on the things of the world to come. We have our choice. Be sure you make the right decision. Mt. 6:21 BENEFITS OF THE RICHES OF HIS GLORY. The most important, the most vital, is the redemption of the individual. Here we find the ‘riches of His grace.’ Where can we find anything more valuable than the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ? His shed blood is the price that He paid for the salvation of the world. Jesus and only Jesus can forgive the sin of mankind. There is not one born into this life for whom He has not paid the price of their entrance into His eternal kingdom. It is very apparent that all will not accept His vicarious work, nevertheless He died for them. Their rejection of Christ is their loss of the only way of eternal life. Eph. 1:7 The riches of Christ are beyond measure. Paul said that they are ‘unsearchable,’ or beyond comprehension, beyond measure. Being eternal, they are endless. Eph. 3:8 Spiritual abilities are equal to the measure of the ‘glory of His riches’ that are resident within us. All spiritual strength is evidenced in us by the workings of the Holy Spirit through whom is conveyed to the church, the power and strength of the Lord. When the riches of His glory are resident within the church, mighty works are accomplished to the glory and praise of His name. Most assuredly, there is a wealth that supersedes the wealth of this world. Eph. 3:16 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 29 TO THE PRAISE 0F HIS GLORY. Those who have placed their trust in the Lord Jesus are examples of His ability to share His glory with others. They are His pride and joy. The rejoicing of His heart is because of their complete trust in Him. Their full confidence in the ability of Christ to accomplish the promises of His Word in them has resulted in their salvation. They are a people who have open hearts and are seekers of the truth. Having believed and received the Lord Jesus as their savior they were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, which is the ‘earnest of our inheritance,’ the down payment, the pledge, the beginning of much, much more to come. Too often the baptism of the Spirit is viewed as the ultimate experience; altogether too many, having received the initial, the introduction of the precious anointing of the Spirit, cease to seek for more. Consequently they miss the richness of the Spirit which is part of their inheritance. Were it a worldly inheritance, there would be no end to the commotion that they would make until they had received their full inheritance. Christians need to contend for the faith once delivered unto the saints. There is such a vast store of the blessings of the Spirit; let us not short change ourselves. Press in, there is an inexhaustible measure waiting for us. What ever the measure of the Spirit is given, there is still that far much more to be had. It is impossible to deplete His ability to fill all with the fullness of Himself. Eph. 1:13-15 TERMS OF THE INHERITANCE. It is needful that we consider those who are excluded from the inheritance. As with all wills, there are certain criteria which must be met in order to receive the inheritance. Certain sinful works will eliminate an individual from receiving their portion. The immoral, impure and greedy, or covetous one seeking after wealth, which in the scripture is considered idolatry, will receive nothing. They are completely eliminated. Eph 5:5 The inheritance is not obtained by adherence to the Law. Those under the Law must come under grace. The inheritance may only be received by promise. Gal. 3:18 In His great mercy and grace, those who are under the Law and kept the Law, who satisfied the demands of the Law, may be the recipients of the promise of an eternal inheritance. Heb. 9:16 How true it is, that the Lord is not willing that any should perish, but all find eternal life in Him. Divine requirements limit the acceptance of the persons who are to benefit, to those who serve the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:24 All those who have a living hope in the Lord Jesus may look forward to the day when they receive the fullness of their inheritance, the redemption of the purchased possession, or a resurrected body like that of the Lord Jesus. Eph. 1:14b The full inheritance is that which is everlasting. It is reserved for all those who love the Lord and who will receive the ultimate of that which is prepared for them. It is an inheritance which is not corrupted nor can it be in any way. It never will diminish in quality or quantity. It is not temporary but is permanent and everlasting. 1 Pet. 1:4 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 30 A PROMISED MEASURELESS FLOW OF THE SPIRIT. The presence of the Spirit dwelling within the born again believer is positively an immense part of our inheritance. It is a privilege that supersedes all privileges. It is the office of the Holy Spirit to reveal Christ unto us, to make Him real and viable in our lives. Consider and evaluate the magnitude of the flow of the Spirit indicated in the words of the Lord Jesus. He said, “that out of your innermost being shall flow rivers of water.” John 7:38 It must be taken into consideration that the word ‘river’ is in the plural, thus speaking of a number of streams and a huge flow of water. A flow that is literally inexhaustible. WHERE IS THE LORD GOD OF ELIJAH? The boldness, the audacity of the prophet Elisha to challenge the Lord is a demonstration of daring and confident faith. Elijah was commissioned to anoint Elisha to take his place as the prophet of the Lord. 1 Kings 19:16 Elisha was found plowing. 1 Kings 19:19 The Lord calls those who have a good work record, not the lazy. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen for a total of twenty-four. An interesting number for there are twenty-four thrones occupied by twenty-four elders around the throne of the Lord. Rev. 4:4 The twenty-four are the leaders of the body of Christ in the church age. They are New Testament elders. Elisha is a type of the Spirit filled and Holy Ghost anointed church. Elijah then went up to Elisha and threw his mantel around Elisha, denoting a change and an impartation of the power of the Lord that was upon Elijah to Elisha. Sound familiar? It should be, for the church has been commissioned of the Lord to wear the mantel of the Christ, the anointed one. WITHOUT QUIBBLING, ELISHA IMMEDIATELY REACTED. He left his oxen and ran after Elijah. A beautiful response to the call of the Lord. The power of the mantel, the anointing, was most attractive to him. He was strongly desirous of responding to whatever the Lord had for him. 1 Kings 19:20 Every tie to family, work, and manner of life was immediately severed. His one request was to bid his parents good-bye for he was a good son, and knew that his sudden disappearance would cause them worry. The response of Elijah reveals the brusque nature of the man. 1 Kings 19:21 The completeness of the commitment of Elisha is noted by the sacrifice which he made. The yoke of oxen and the yoke or equipment used to harness the animals were used in an offering unto the Lord, thus, making a complete separation between the old life and the new, the secular and the spiritual. His resolution to fully follow the Lord was one hundred percent, total and absolute. Interesting, ‘he fed the people’ with the offering of his calling. He then left all to follow hard after Elijah. Note please, he ministered to the needs and wants of the prophet Elijah; he did not immediately become a prophet himself, but learned to serve. 1 Kings 19:21 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 31 A POWERFUL DEMONSTRATION OF THE POWER OF THE LORD. The time for the Lord to transport Elijah into heaven was nearing. He was to be carried in the awesome vortex of a mighty wind, a hurricane with all of its manifestations of power. Elisha went with him. He was a constant companion and friend and was not about to miss such a tremendous event. They left Gilgal, the place where the Israelites who had wandered forty years in the desert were circumcised. The reproach of Egypt [a type of the world] was removed from them. Josh. 5:7 Gilgal means “rolling” or “wheel”. Spiritually, it depicts separation and consecration. Paul called it, “the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh.” Col. 2:11 It is a work of the Spirit preparing and sanctifying the vessel for the infilling of the Spirit. It is a cleansing wrought in the heart of man by the Spirit. Rom. 2:29 The experiences of Gilgal are most necessary for the church in order for her to be one with Christ. THEY CAME TO BETHEL. Elijah tested Elisha and tried to persuade him to stay at Gilgal but with great zeal Elisha answered that there was ‘no way’ that he would stay behind. He had made his consecration and was determined to go all the way. “I will not leave thee.” 2 Kings 2:2 It is apparent that it was common knowledge that Elijah was to be taken of the Lord that day. The sons of the prophets knew what was about to take place and let Elisha know that they knew it. From his response it would seem that they were speaking to him in rather an unpleasant manner. He responded to them with an invitation to hold their peace. In modern vernacular, “shut up”. 2 Kings 2:3 Once again Elijah tried to persuade Elisha to remain in Bethel. Beth-el means, the house of the Lord. This is a place where we hear and are washed by the Word. Judgment begins at the house of the Lord. It is far better to learn and know of our failures and short comings that we might acknowledge them and be separated from them. JERICHO BOUND. Jericho means fragrance or fruitfulness. Spiritual fruit comes to those who are willing to follow the process of sanctification as proposed by the Lord. The sweet perfume of the Spirit pervades their lives. Once again pressure is applied as at Bethel. He is tested a second time but remains steadfast in his determination to be present when Elijah is carried into heaven. 2 Kings 2:5 ELIJAH ORDERED OF THE LORD TO GO TO JORDAN. Jordan meaning “flowing downward”. Generally used as a type of death. This was to be the fourth and the last step before Elijah would be caught up. 2 Kings 2:6 There is no indication of the emotions of these two as they journey together. There must have been tremendous excitement in their hearts as they anticipated the wondrous and glorious event that was to take place at the end of their trip. Just thinking and writing about it is exciting, for we too anticipate that marvelous day of our catching up. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 32 AT JORDAN. Elijah and Elisha arrived at the bank of the river anticipating that the Lord would indeed call Elijah home. Standing afar off are fifty sons of the prophets who are not participating but are there as mere spectators. Fifty is the number of Pentecost. We have here a picture of the final mighty move of the Spirit in the earth just prior to the enactment of those things that are final. The two prophets of the Lord are right in the midst of the action about to take place, while the others are only watching - and that from a far off. 2 kings 2:7 Most unfortunately, not all will participate in the final powerful move of the Lord. It will not only be a manifestation of the majestic power of the Lord, but will also be a restoration of righteousness in the church. THE MANTEL OF POWER. The cloak or mantel, as an instrument displaying the power of the Spirit. Perhaps a sheepskin. The throwing of it over Elisha was a call to the prophetic life. Now, as it strikes the waters of Jordan it is divided and the two prophets go over dryshod. 2 Kings 2:8 Jordan typifies the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Paul knew the experience of being crucified with Christ. Then living in the glory and power of that new life that is in Christ. Gal. 2:20 The depths of the Christian experience is found in dying and being raised together with Him. Not a physical death, but dying to the old carnal nature. Rom. 8:4-6 WHAT SHALL I DO FOR THEE? An offer that was without restrictions. Surely that involves the “ALL THINGS” that we find in the New Testament promises. Such as all things being possible. Mt. 19:26 All things received of those who pray in full faith. Mt. 21:22 All things freely given. Rom. 8:32 All things working together for good. Rom. 8:28 And so on. Elisha, being the spiritual man that he was, requested a double portion. 2 Kings 2:9 That double portion is not only twice the amount of the original, but literally involves a full and complete portion, or the full measure. There is no greater portion than that of the Lord Jesus. He received the Spirit without measure. The same portion is made available to the believer, especially in the last days. IF YOU SEE ME. Great importance is to be found in these words. Most definitely, Elisha was not about to take his eyes off of Elijah. It is a good thing for the church to have a vision of the Lord Jesus and to fix our eyes on Him. He is our example in all matters. He has delegated the church to represent Him and to be His ambassadors in this world. 2 Cor. 5:20 If we are to properly exemplify Him then we must know Him thoroughly. Always being in touch with Him and constantly learning of Him. He is to fill our vision that we might be a good example of Christ in every aspect of our daily lives. Note and consider Heb. 12:2 Let Him constantly be the object of our affections. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 33 PRELUDE TO RAPTURE. In anticipation of the wonderful event about to transpire, they walked and talked together. There was a close and intimate fellowship and communication between the two immediately before the transportation of Elijah into heaven. Spiritual happenings are preceded by deep and intense spiritual heart searching and a consistent and close walk with the Lord. The work of Elijah for that period of time had been accomplished; a change was about to take place. He still lives, one of two unique men who are in the presence of the Lord without ever dying. Elijah has a ministry in the end of the age. He must come as a precursor who will herald the second coming of the Lord Jesus. Mal. 4:5 John the Baptist came in the spirit and power of Elijah but was not Elijah. Luke 1: 15-17 The works wrought by the two witnesses identify one of them as Elijah who will minister under a mandate of Law and prophet, as the prophet. Rev. 11:3-8 SEPARATED BY CHARIOTS OF FIRE. Elijah was translated into heaven in grand manner. The manifestation of the glory and power of the Lord at this time is beyond description. The chariot, with its speed and rumbling sound, speaks to us of a mighty and capable champion. One who is a warrior of the highest degree. That in itself is awesome. The word ‘chariot’ may also be translated ‘upper millstone’ or something which grinds and crushes. Horses, again we have beasts of war, conquering and to conquer. The noise and thunder of their hoofs is fearsome. Furthermore, the fact that all this was blazing with the fire of the Lord; not just a flame, but fire like lightning striking out in all directions with repeated flashing. Like that seen by Ezekiel as he recorded in Eze. 1:13 While the dark cloud is not reported as having been seen by Elijah and Elisha the circumstances warrant such a suggestion. It is out of the dark cloud that both lightning and whirlwinds appear. Ezekiel saw the cloud as the source of such actions. Eze. 1:4 The strength of the Lord is in the clouds. Ps. 68:34 It was the terrible, ordinarily destructive whirlwinds which caught Elijah up in its mighty power and carried him into the heavenly. Manifestations of weather that are usually destructive to the earth and mankind are used as examples of the extreme glory of the Lord. When these tremendous powers are displayed in a spiritual sense and from a Godlike position they are of great blessing. For instance, the pillar of fire and the cloud were life, light and protection to the children of Israel, but they were just the opposite to the Egyptians. On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended upon the waiting saints with the rush, the swish, the mighty sound of a strong gale, and they were all filled with the Spirit. At the same time cloven tongues of fire were seen resting upon each of them. That lively, vibrant fiery presence of the Lord was made known that day. Not only was the sound heard, but the fire was also visible. Acts 2:2-3 The same Spirit that was upon Elijah is made known in the world today. He still baptizes with the Holy Ghost and fire. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 34 HE SAW IT. Elisha became a witness to the infinite capability and power of the Lord. Because he witnessed the event he was a candidate to receive that which he had requested, a similar or a double portion of the anointing that was upon Elijah. The list of miracles wrought by Elisha is twice the number of those by Elijah; however that is not to say that there were not other mighty works done by these two prophets which are not recorded. Elisha acknowledged that he had seen the Almighty. His life was to be changed. He tore his old garments from his body. In this manner he was making a complete separation from his old life. 2 Kings 2:12 In order to obtain a good clean contact with the glorious strength and power of the Lord, there must be some changes; there cannot be a mingling of the old and the new. A choice must be made where one - or the other - is followed. The old man is to be discarded and the new man becomes the apparel of the bride. The old is sinful and corrupt. Eph. 4:22 The new man has the nature of Christ and will produce the likeness of Christ in the believer. Col. 3:10 If we are really desirous of a time of reviving and renewing then it is very apparent the old man must be thrown aside and the new man become the desire and drive of the church. THE MANTEL OF ELIJAH. Now the cloak of Elisha. He immediately tested both the mantel and the promise that Elijah had made to him. Elisha had done his part by sticking with Elijah and watched him as he disappeared in the cloud. The boldness of faith and an audacious challenge for a manifestation of the Lord such as had been accomplished by Elijah as they crossed the river. Eureka, it worked. There is a brashness, not a brazenness, but a word and act of confidence that ignites faith and produces action. The waters parted for Elisha. 2 Kings 2:13-14 THE DOUBTERS. The fellows who had stood afar off and had seen all the transactions that had transpired now spoke their lack of belief. The same fifty sons of the prophets approached Elisha with a proposition of doubt and unbelief at all that they had seen. Amazing, it had all taken place before their very eyes, yet they questioned even what they themselves had seen. You can almost hear them oohing and awing at the tremendous display of the power of the Lord that they had seen. No doubt that they had accounted it to be just like any other storm. At first he denied their request to go and search for Elijah, but due to their persistence he eventually gave in and let them go search for Elijah in the mountains. A fruitless effort for sure. Stupidly, people still search for God in the mountains and nature. He is not to be found there, He is in Christ. They searched in vain for three days and had to admit defeat. 2 Kings 2:15-18 The root, the seed of the manifestation of the power of the Lord is in the three days and nights which Jesus spent in the tomb. The only sign, yet all powerful, for He arose from the dead. Mt. 12:39 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 35 ONE OF THE OTHER. The Father recognized by the Lord Jesus as the source of life. Aptly called the living Father for He will never know death. The life eternal of the Father flowed into the being of the Lord Jesus until He was able to say that He lived by the Father. John 6:57 As the Father has ever lived, and will ever live, so He has granted that same life to His Son, the Lord Jesus. That same spirit of an endless life illustrates the affinity, the unity that exists between the Father and the Son. John 5:26 Divisions pertaining to the Godhead in the body of Christ exist only because the complete revelation of the Lord is not sought after. His oneness and the triunity of the Lord are made plain in the scriptures if we will only take the volume of the book as our guide. All life emanates from the Lord, whether it be natural life or spiritual life. He is the author of life. Jesus gave His life that all mankind might have the life of the Father flowing through them unto eternal life. I AND MY FATHER ARE ONE. Note carefully that He did not say the same person, but one in perfect harmony, in every way possible. Jesus is the Son, born of the seed of the Father. Therefore we may expect Him to be identical to the Father in every manner. John 10:30 Jesus undoubtedly lived a very normal life in the home of Joseph and Mary. We are not made aware of any unusual spiritual activity in His life until the age of twelve. Then the vail is pulled back and it is apparent that all during His life the nature of His Father was at work in Him. He knew who He was, and what His work would be. Dormant within His spirit entity was resident that spiritual wisdom and knowledge that would be expected of one who was the Son of God. He sat in the temple in a question and answer session and astonished the attendants with His understanding and questions. Luke 2:47 To remain sinless and not to have committed the sins of youth there had to have been a knowledge of righteousness and purity resident within His spirit. More than all others, He knew the difference between right and wrong. IF YOU HAVE SEEN ME. You have seen the Father. John 14:9 Identical in every fashion and manner; having the same characteristics, thoughts and purposes. Never a conflict or even the hint of a division. Jesus is the physical body of the Godhead, the father dwelt within Him. Therefore, those who looked upon the Lord Jesus, had seen the likeness of the Father in Him. God is a Spirit. John 4:24 The word Spirit [pneuma, translates as being a breath of air, a breeze or even ghost]. Invisible to human eye, yet very definitely a part of life on this earth. That which is real is that which is eternal. The spirit nature will live forever, those who are born of the Spirit of the Lord, are with Him in heaven. Those who are not saved, in hell. Reality is that which is God-like and everlasting. Our bodies are destined to die and corrupt; they are not in any manner equal to that which is eternal. The resurrected spiritual, eternal body, is like unto the glorious body of the Lord Jesus. The Lord, the spiritual, is the real thing. The Father is reality. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 36 I WILL NOT LEAVE YOU AS ORPHANS. They had been awakened spiritually by the ministry and presence of the Lord Jesus. A constant and mature fellowship had developed as they associated with Jesus from day to day. A spiritual life style had been their delight and joy. Now, He was going to leave them. How troubled they must have been to experience all that they would have felt through the crucifixion of the Lord and His burial. However, He had promised that He would not leave them without a comforter and that He would come to them. John 14:18 Here again, the mystery of the Godhead comes into view. So perfect and absolute is the unity of that one who is called God, that the Triunity of His Person is represented by the presence of either the Father, the Son or the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised that He would ask of the Father another comforter who would be with them continuously. The other comforter who would come was one like unto the one who was leaving. Greek, allos. “Another of the same sort, or another like Himself.” W. E. Vine. He who would come would not be Jesus but one who was so much a part of Jesus that Jesus could say. “I will come to you.” Aside from His physical presence, all that Jesus was to them would be met and made known in the presence of the Holy Spirit in their lives. The same awesome presence which they had become accustomed to was now present, dwelling within them in the person of the Holy Spirit. AN ASSOCIATION THAT IS OUT OF THIS WORLD. There is no unanimity, or absolute accord in all of the universe like that of the Godhead; each member, designated by the titles to be Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They persistently maintain their unique identification as determined by the titles ascribed unto them. Jesus made it very plain that He was IN the Father. In this manner He illustrated the perfect association, the fellowship and unity which is made manifest in the Godhead. Not only was Jesus in the Father, but the Father was also resident within the Lord Jesus. Jesus does not identify Himself as the Father, but honors the blessed relationship that exists in the Godhead. The words, the works that the Lord Jesus did in His sojourn here on earth were the words and the works of the Father. His motivation, the authority to do wonders and miracles came to Him from the Father who was resident within Him. These words of the Lord Jesus show us the submission that He manifest toward the Father. As a son, though equal to the Father, He was willing to be obedient in all things. Therefore He urged His followers to acknowledge the fact that the Father dwelt in Him and that He was in the Father. John 14:10-11 The miracle of all this marvelous association is that we are invited to be a part of this precious union. Jesus prayed that His followers might be made one with the same alliance and complete concord that is found in the Godhead. John 17:21 Such undivided accord is that which will be found in the Bride of Christ. The church will one day, soon, awaken to all that has been prepared for those who love the Lord Jesus and will make the consecration which will result in perfect unity in the body of Christ. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 37 THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH. Truth is His very nature. He is truth. He speaks the truth in revealing the Lord Jesus. He will make known the Christ of God in detail. He will not speak of Himself, He will exalt the Lord Jesus. What He hears of the Father, He will both manifest and declare. John 16:13 Equal in nature and being to the Father and the Son. He is called the Spirit of God. Therefore, all that is of God and is found in God must also be in Him. Mt. 3:16 He is the Spirit of the Lord or the Spirit of Jehovah. Judges 11:29 His ministry is to glorify the Lord Jesus and not Himself. He is to take those things which pertain to Christ and make them real and alive to the bride. John 16:14 Jesus likewise stated that, “ALL THINGS” belonging to the Father were His. What an amazing statement. Nothing withheld, all things shared and shared in equal measure. So, when the Holy Spirit is revealing the things of Christ, He is also making the things of the Father known. John 16:15 He will come forth from the Father. Proceeding out of the Father as the very breath of the Father. Not one who is commissioned as an angel would be, but is the emission of the very inspiration of the Lord. John 15:26 The Holy Spirit is the breath, the essence of the Lord. The Lord Jesus breathed upon His disciples after His resurrection and commanded them to receive the Holy Ghost. John 20:22 That became an accomplished matter on the day of Pentecost when they were filled with the Spirit. That gentle breath became a hurricane accompanied by the sound and strength of nature. Only, this was spiritual and not a weather related event. They were all filled. Acts 2:2-4 WE WILL COME. Obedience to the Word is a requirement for the abiding presence of the Lord in the life of the believer. That is a matter which is easily accomplished, if we love the Lord Jesus. The whole of the gospel is based on love. Without the love that is the very nature of the Lord, it is impossible to please Him. Today, in the person of the Holy Spirit we are privileged to be the dwelling place of the living God. Jesus said, “We will come and make our abode with him.” John 14:23 John presents the same thought in his first Epistle in the statement, “ye shall continue in the Son and in the Father.” 1 John 2:24 We must keep in mind that we know the Father and the Son through the person of the Holy Spirit. Again he stated the fact that God has chosen to take of Himself and dwell within a changed and altered spiritual man. One who acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God will find that he is dwelling in God and that God dwells in him. Astonishing, amazing yet true. 1 John 4:15 To seal the fact and to give us another witness we turn to the writings of the Apostle Paul. He gave a good report and verified the presence of the Lord in the members of the body of Christ, by saying, “ye are the temple of God.” How can we verify that today? By the presence of the “Spirit of God,” who is now occupying our hearts and spirits. 1 Cor. 3:16 Furthermore, he attributed to the Lord Himself the statement that He would dwell and walk and be a God to a people who were His. 2 Cor. 6:16 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 38 THE SPIRIT WHO IS TRUTH. There is no possibility of the slightest deviation from the truth to be found in Him. His very nature, His essence is truth. He can only dwell where truth is welcomed. John 14:17 He is to be the teacher and guide to the church. His ultimate purpose is to instruct in the ways of the Lord. Both in Christian living and in prophetic utterance of things to come. Were the church of today really listening to Him, there would be some drastic doctrinal changes. There are teachings being propagated that do not originate from the Word and the Spirit. Pathetic, but true. John 16:13 There is no doubt that we owe a great deal to the past fathers of church doctrine. However, not everything that they taught is by any means “Spirit inspired.” To deny the Lord the ability to fulfill His Word in sending the Holy Spirit to baptize and fill the members of the body of Christ is a contrary belief. The anointing of the Spirit has come to abide, to dwell, to remain within the spirit nature of the believer. He comes, He anoints and He remains. 1 John 2:27 “BUT YE KNOW HIM.” So spoke the Lord Jesus to His disciples. Because the world cannot receive Him, they will never know Him. The true church will know Him because He will constantly dwell with them. If we have not made Him welcome, then He will not come. We are to know Him because of His abiding presence. He will dwell with us, [A place where too many Christians are content to dwell] but Jesus said He would be IN us. There is a vast difference between having Him with us, and having Him IN US. We have our choice. John 14:17 How can we possibly have the Spirit of the Father, except He dwell in us. It is obvious that to reject the ability of the Spirit of the Lord from dwelling in us, we have rejected the Spirit of the Father. Mt. 10:20 Jesus declared that the Spirit of truth, proceeded from the Father. John 15:26 To refuse His Spirit is to refuse the Father. THE PROCLAMATION OF THE HIGH AND LOFTY ONE. The inhabitant of eternity. Actually He is eternity itself. Did He not exist, there would be no eternity. His name is Holy. He is Holiness personified. His essential quality is Holiness. He dwells in heaven, the high and holy place. Because He is omnipresent, He dwells with those who are of a holy heart, a cleansed, purified heart. He is found in the lives of those who are of a contrite and broken spirit. Who exhibit the humility that is worthy of those who serve the Lord. This becomes the source of revival, a contrite and a humble heart. Isa. 57:16 The attitude and conduct of those who would live for the Lord is all important for it can hinder revival as well as produce one. Humility is an attitude that was constantly displayed in the life of the Lord Jesus. The promise of the Word is that the Lord is close to those who are broken of heart - not because of circumstances, but because of a desire to submit to the Lord. The contrite of spirit He saves. Those who are crushed, who cast themselves before Him. Ps. 34:18 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 39 SONS POSSESS THE SPIRIT OF THE SON. The residence of the Son, the Lord Jesus is found in the spirit nature of those who have been born of the Spirit. Once again we find evidence of the close relationship that exists in the Godhead. At the same time the individuality of the Son and the Spirit is manifest, it is identifiable as having different identities yet beautiful and harmonious in unity. Gal. 4:6 The coming and dwelling of His Spirit, in our spirit, is an acknowledgment that the person is indeed a son of the Most High. The Spirit, Himself is the one who witnesses, by His presence, that the individual has been fully accepted as a child of the Lord. Rom. 8:16 This brings a tremendous assurance to the recipient that he is now worthy of receiving all of His benefits. We are made confident that we dwell in Him. Even more wonderful is the knowledge that He dwells in us. All because He has given us the Spirit. It is He who makes the Lord real to us and reveals Him in our hearts. We can only know Him by the Spirit. 1 John 4:13 THE SPIRIT, THE TEACHER. He makes the things of the Lord to be plain and simple. He is the Spirit of the Lord, and therefore He knows the mind and will of the Lord. His purpose in coming into the world was to make known all the goodness and mercy of the Lord, to reveal His character and to implant that nature within each and every one of the children of the Lord. He does not speak after the wisdom of this world but of the spiritual world and the deep teachings of the Lord. 1 Cor. 2:13 When permitted, He will see to it that the fruit of the Spirit is made manifest in the daily life of the believer. Gal. 5:22-23 The tree that produces fruit is a living tree. It is a tree of value and benefit. HE IS THE SPIRIT OF LOVE. Without the presence of the Holy Spirit in us, we can never know the fullness of the love that is the God whom we serve. The absolute essence of the Lord is love. Agape love, love as only God can love. Those who dwell in the love of the Lord have a deep rooted knowledge that He dwells within them. 1 John 4:16 It is impossible for natural man to love as the Lord loves. It is only when the Spirit of love comes into our hearts that we even begin to understand what His love really is. Love, such as the Lord is, has been poured out into our hearts by His Spirit which He so graciously has bestowed upon us. Rom. 5:5 His love is completed, reaches its fullness and climax in the church which will be His bride. All this, that He might fully demonstrate His power and ability to transform lives from sinners to an absolute likeness of Himself. For, “AS HE IS,” which involves everything that He is and ever will be. “SO ARE WE IN HIS WORLD.” Not waiting for the coming eternity, but now, here in this present world it is His will that the church be the perfect example of all that He was, is and ever shall be. She shall bear His likeness and character. 1 John 4:17 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 40 AN UNCTION FROM THE HOLY ONE. Please note that the source of the anointing is the living Holy one. He is Holiness personified and is of perfect Holiness. Peter aptly identified the Holy One as being none other than the Lord Jesus. In great boldness, facing the very perpetrators of the disapproval of the Lord Jesus, he identified them as being those who rejected the Holy One. Acts 3:13 The demonic spirits did better at recognizing and acknowledging the Lord Jesus as the “Holy One of God.” Mark 1:24 It is His good pleasure to lavish upon His church the precious anointing oil of the Holy Spirit. The glorious anointing of the Spirit did not make them a group of ‘smart alecks’ or a bunch who ‘know-it-all.’ The knowledge which had been imparted to them was given by the Holy Spirit and pertained to an understanding of the Word of the Lord, the truth. With the teacher there is imparted enlightenment. John wrote his Epistle to a church that had been attacked by teachers of false doctrines. He emphasized the fact that they had been taught by the Spirit and that they “knew all things” - or the truth. He was very emphatic in stating that the Holy Spirit, the source of divine illumination would make the Word understandable to them. Therefore, as they held fast in the Spirit of truth, they would also continue in the Father and the Son. 1 John 2:24 Here again, the unity of the Godhead is brought into view. As the Son and the Spirit are in the Father, so the Father and the Spirit are in the Son and the Father and the Son are in the Spirit. An undivided Triunity. CONFESSING CHRIST AS SAVIOR AND GOD. God, [that would involve the Father and the Spirit] were in Christ. Through Christ, God was to reconcile a sinful world unto a Holy God, by forgiving, and as far as He is concerned, completely obliterating any memory of their sin. The Lord cannot remember the sin that has been confessed to Him, all the sin which has been placed under the blood of Christ. His loss of memory is an act of His grace. 2 Cor. 5:18-19 The assurance of the abiding presence of the Lord in the spirit nature of man is according to our confession of Him. If we are willing to acknowledged that Jesus is indeed, the Son of God, then the Lord will dwell in us and we in Him. Indeed, a most precious promise. It assures us of His abiding presence which we so desperately need in this world of unrighteousness. 1 John 4:15 What confidence and blessed assurance that He dwells IN US! Rest assured in this “that greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world”. Strength and power accompany His presence. How sincerely we should seek after that full and complete infilling of the Spirit and most graciously welcome that mighty presence into our lives. 1 John 4:4 In the fullness of the Spirit which is “Christ in you”, the Lord equips and completely arms His people to do battle in the spirit world as well as in every day situations. The same glory that has been granted unto the Son by the Father has been given to His church. A beautiful part of that glory is the unity that exists in the Godhead. Jesus prayed that His church would become one, a unit, as closely bound together as the Godhead. John 17:22 It was the prayer of the Lord Jesus and it shall come to pass. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 41 DUAL REQUIREMENTS. The first is to love Him. The second is to demonstrate that He is indeed loved by keeping His commandments or being obedient to His Word. The word ‘commandments’ is not a reference to the Law of ten commandments. It is rather a challenge to follow the pattern and life style that has been established by the Lord Jesus. John 14:15 A real love for the Lord Jesus is proof of an acceptance of both, the Father and the Lord Jesus. Jesus was commissioned and sent by the Father. He is the royal and eternal one who originated from the Father. Because Christ is the Son of the Father, He is the issue of the Father. All who love the Father will love His only begotten Son. There cannot be a love for one without a similar love for the other. John 8:42 Obedience to the words of the Lord Jesus is the evidence of our love for Him. To love Him is to assure that person, that they are also loved of the Father. The end result of this love is the manifestation of the Son to that obedient and beloved person. John 14:23 MAINTAINING THE DIVINE PRESENCE OF THE LORD JESUS. The secret is found in adhering fast to sound teaching that is based on the scriptures. Continuing in the faith and love that is found in a knowledge of Jesus as savior and Lord. Embracing truth, faith and love is the very core, the heart of true Christianity. 2 Tim. 1:13 Jesus spoke of the first and the great commandment being that of a love for the “Lord thy God.” A love that would exceed all love for any other being or object. Mt. 22:37 It is to be an all consuming love. A love that can only transpire between two persons who are of the same mind and spirit. We know that the very nature of the Lord is love. We must also consider the statement of the Apostle Paul when he said that the same love has been “shed abroad, in our hearts, by the Holy Ghost”, who is now resident within us. Rom. 5:5 The second commandment, is similar to the first, for when the true love of the Lord is in us, we will love our neighbor as ourselves. Mt. 22:39 THE SPIRIT OF RESURRECTION. The same Spirit which raised the Lord Jesus Christ from the tomb is the Spirit that dwells in the consecrated who make up the real body of Christ. If the same, the identical Spirit, is the Spirit that is in the church, then the power of resurrection is resident within. It is wonderful to look down over the ages of time and realize that there is coming a glorious day where the dead in Christ will be raised. However, Paul is not talking about that day. He is referring to the here and now, this present moment of time. The Spirit of resurrection brings to the human body a refreshing, an empowerment that goes beyond the natural abilities of men. The promise is, that He will also quicken, make alive, your mortal bodies. That embraces every kind of supernatural ability and strength; the power to endure, while overcoming the frailties and limitations of the flesh. It most certainly embraces healing for the physical body. It makes a way for the fruit and the gifts of the Spirit to be exercised in the body of believers. It enlivens both physically and spiritually. Rom. 8:11 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 42 A POWERFUL CALL. A stipulation established pertaining to the Temple of the Lord. A heavenly order fixed as a requisite for His Temple or His Bride. As always, His way is contrary to the ways of men. He calls for separation from the unholy elements of this life. It is a message requiring a complete disunion from every form of idolatry and all that may be called an idol in this world. This would involve objects of worship made by the hands of men. Also prized possessions. Most assuredly the acclaim, the worship by people of popular or outstanding individuals. Many of whom are made to be human objects of worship. Jesus said, “Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve.” Mt. 4:10 “WHEREFOR COME OUT FROM AMONG THEM.” The call for total separation from the life style of this world has never changed. The standards of the church have changed but not always for the good. Paul stipulated three actions that were to be followed. The first, “come out”. Realize that in Christ, we are new creatures who are no longer to be a part of the life of sin from which we have departed. Immediately on being born of the Spirit there are some things which leave us, there are other worldly desires which may hang on for a while. To have a part in a perfect bride, all the works of the flesh must be overcome and left behind. Secondly, “be ye separate.” Set aside and severed from the pattern of a sinful life. Knowing that there are boundaries and there is no passing over them. Thirdly, “touch not the unclean.” Having nothing to do with the acts of unrighteousness performed habitually by the unsaved. 2 Cor. 6:17 Jude even went so far as to say that the Christian is to hate even the garment that is spotted by the flesh. Jude 23 Sin must become totally repulsive to the child of the Lord. There is no room for it in our lives. “I WILL RECEIVE YOU.” Everyone wants to be accepted as part of a group or gathering. Here is an opportunity to be received by the person who counts the most, the Lord Jesus. Accepted for time and eternity. So many times at the funeral of a departed loved one or friend it is expressed that they are with the Lord. A statement that frequently is said of people who had no time for the Lord and paid no attention to Him during their life time. How pathetic, to expect to be received by one who was ignored. If we obey Him now, He has said that He would be a Father to us. That we would be His sons and daughters. 2 Cor. 6:17-18 That makes for real assurance. We are in Father's house. All the privileges and blessings of His house are ours. The assurance of eternal life is already ours and we know that as Paul said, when we are absent from this body we are present, at home with the Lord. 2 Cor. 5:8 What is expected of us is not a burden, or grievous, but there is a blessedness that can only be received when the requests of the Lord have been met. What greater thrill is there in life than that of knowing that all is right between our soul and the Lord, THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 43 THE PRAYER OF REBIRTH. In addressing the Galatian church as little children, Paul indicated their immaturity. Their lack of spiritual growth and refinement is evident. They were yet dealing with the very fundamentals of spiritual life. They were babes, in spiritual understanding. Spiritual growth cannot be measured by the length of time that a person has been in the church. Many have been in the church for years and years, and are still babes. Others come in with a hunger for the Word and grow quickly. Time has nothing to do with spiritual growth. Acceptance to, and a desire for the Word, promote the true church to a progressive spirituality. Gal. 4:19 TRAVAIL. How interesting, Paul prayed that strong and sometimes painful, agonizing prayer, AGAIN. That he had begotten them after a spiritual manner in the Lord is very plain. Now, a second time, he is earnestly praying for them. How far had they slipped from the truth that it became necessary for him to pray with such intensity? The fervor and depth of such a prayer is something that not all experience. Jesus prayed that type of prayer in the garden with such a burden that He sweat great drops of blood. Luke 22:44 As babes are born into this world, so souls are born into the kingdom of the Lord. When Zion travailed, she brought forth. There is a travail in the Spirit that needs to be exercised to bring forth the end time work of the Lord. Isa. 66:8 UNTIL CHRIST BE FORMED IN YOU. Here we find the high calling in Christ Jesus. The human mind cannot comprehend the depths of such a statement. The word formed, is the key word here and perhaps a key word for the entire Word of the Lord. It is what the gospel is all about. Formed, is morphoo in the Greek and speaks to the transformation, the metamorphosis that transpires in the process of life that changes a caterpillar into a butterfly. A beautiful analogy of the drastic change that Christ makes in ones life. Gal. 4:19 The Lord Jesus is seeking a Bride like unto Himself. The King of Kings will not marry a commoner, a lay person. His wife will be a Queen of equal status and bearing. In order to arrive at such a holy status there must be a complete adherence to the Word. That Word is the seed that will germinate and produce the “Christ Life” in us. The Lord Jesus, who was in the form of God and equal to God, laid all that aside that He might become our Lord and Redeemer. His path was downward, He became a servant, a man. His purpose was to elevate His people, making them like unto Himself in His equality with His Father. Phil. 2:6-8 He took our place that we might share with Him in His eternal station and throne. Those who are fully conformed to His likeness will be privileged to sit with Him in His throne which is also the Fathers throne. Rev. 3:21 Through the avenue of the Spirit it is the purpose of the Lord to occupy every nook and cranny of our spiritual man. The Bride will be filled “with all the fullness of God.” Eph. 3:19 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 44 THE GOOD PLEASURE OF THE FATHER. The Lord, being no respecter of persons desires to do for all of those who are His, exactly what He did in the life of the Apostle Paul. As the Father made known the Son in the spirit nature of Paul, so He desires to do in each and every one who considers themselves as belonging to Him. To reveal is to uncover to make known a secret or hidden thing. Christ would abide fully in the spirit of every person who has been born of the spirit. While He remains invisible to others, He is soon made evident by the works that He performs through those in whom He is dwelling. Gal. 1:16 A proper understanding of the Son comes by the revelation given to people by the Father. Jesus called Simon Barjona blessed because he proclaimed Jesus to be the Christ, the Messiah. That revelation could not be attributed to man but came in direct revelation from the Father. Mt. 16:17 NEXT VERSE ALSO, PLEASE! So often, as a means of covering our ignorance of things spiritual we quote 1 Cor. 2:9. It is true, that on the surface, many things concerning the end of the age, eternity and heaven seem to be kept secret. That is, until the Spirit of the Lord begins to open our eyes. In the Bible it is called a revelation, an opening up, a making known. The Lord follows certain established principles and does not deviate from them. They are recorded in the Word. He desires greatly to make His will and actions known to His people. Too often their minds are elsewhere and not centered on Him. If He still loves us, He will permit a situation to take place in our lives that will send us fleeing to Him for refuge. What amazing patience He has with us. The Prophet Amos gave us a truth and it is still in effect today. “Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but He revealeth His secret unto His servants the prophets”. Amos 3:7 A consistent walk with the Lord will prepare one for all conditions that we meet in this life. “But God”. He works in His own time and as He wills. He has revealed the end times, the future, the things that He will accomplish and even gives us some wonderful views of His heaven, of His city and His Bride. The Holy Spirit is the means whereby He makes known unto us the completeness of His will and purpose. The future is not hidden, nor is it secret, but it is all laid out before us in His Word. He has revealed the things which He has prepared for those who love Him. 1 Cor. 2:10 As the Father revealed the Son, so the Spirit makes the Lord to be exceedingly real in our lives and we revel in the glory of His presence. 1 Cor. 2:11 The Holy Spirit comes to the believer as the light bearer, and with a Spirit of revelation. Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would come and take the things pertaining to Christ and reveal them unto His disciples. John 16:7 There is no other way whereby we may know the Lord Jesus except by the Spirit. Nor can we know the Father aside from a spiritual revelation brought to us by the Spirit and the Word. All that He will do, He has written in His Word. Disbelief will never cancel His divine purposes. Before it happens He has declared it and will see to it that it is accomplished just as He said. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 45 PAUL IN PRAYER. In reverence and love he was on his knees before the Lord, praying for the church. His prayer was directed to the Father, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was not with them in Ephesus at this time, he was concerned and carried a burden of prayer for them. Eph. 3:14 Physically, it is impossible for the body of Christ to be united but in prayer, and in the spirit we are one. Particularly, when the Spirit is praying through us and is reaching to the church, world wide. May we always carry a burden and concern for the persecuted church. Though we may not know them nor have we met them, they are still family in the Lord and need our prayers. THE FAMILY NAME. The family on earth and in heaven is named after the Lord Jesus Christ. What a magnificent name to bestow upon those who love Him. Eph. 3:15 That name is a name that was determined by God alone. It expresses the fullness of the nature and character of the one who bears that name. There will never be another name, named upon anyone, in time or eternity, that will exceed the greatness of that name. That name is the Lord Jesus Christ. Phil. 2:9 The day will soon come when every person who has ever lived will bow before the one who owns that glorious name. Every voice will cry out and proclaim the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. An action that will bring joy and rejoicing to God the Father. The Father gave Him that name with the intent that it be worshipped and adored. The Father rejoices to hear the name of His Son. Phil. 2:9-11 PRAY AND ASK, IN HIS NAME. The source of a response to prayer is in praying according to the instructions. Ever try putting something together without reading the instructions, then end up with too many parts? Could it be that we need to readdress our prayers in the manner that Jesus taught, to receive the answers that He has promised? He stated that we were to ask the Father, in His name. Amazingly, He boldly promised that whatsoever we asked of the Father, He would also give it to us. John 16:13 He could promise that because He knew that true sincere prayer, without ridiculous requests, would be made by those who loved Him. His interest and concern is to be noted in the fact that there would be an answer which would bring fullness of joy to the one making the petition. John 16:23-24 It is important to the success of the church carrying out the great commission that we do so in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is when we recognize the power that is in that name that there is victory such as Jesus promised. “Signs shall follow” those who believe in - and use - His name in prayer for the sick and the casting out of devils. Likewise, they find divine protection in that name. Not to be overlooked is the promise that they will have a personal Pentecost with the initial sign of speaking in tongues. The Holy Spirit responds to those who seek the Lord Jesus Christ and understand that He will send the Spirit, even today. Mark 16:17-18 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 46 THE PERFECT DESIGN OF THE LORD. As the only architect and general contractor of the body of Christ, and the only eternal city the Lord has established positive, unchangeable, plans. He is the founder and creator. He has ordered the specifics and will see to it that the building is completed exactly as He has desired. Heb. 11:10, 3:4 He has spelled out in a very definite and positive manner what He will do to accomplish His intentions. Rest assured that what He has pictured by words, in His Word, will be precisely the end result. His Bride will be a bride of unity - not only with the other members of that body, but in total agreement with the Lord in one doctrine. Eph. 4:13a The vision of Paul of a unified church was identical to the will of the Lord. He urged them, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, to be of one accord, and to all speak and teach the same thing. This is a unity that can only be accomplished by the operation of the Holy Spirit directing and teaching every leader in the body of Christ. There can be no divisions or schisms in the true body of Christ. Those divisions which exist today are evidences of the works of the flesh. It shows the carnality that must be dealt with and eliminated from the body. The true church will be “perfectly joined together in the same mind and the same judgment.” That is one beautiful statement and a goal that all who really love the body of Christ should strive to achieve. 1 Cor. 1:10 ENDEAVORING TO KEEP THE UNITY OF THE SPIRIT. Speedy effort should be enacted to maintain that most precious unity. It is self evident that there will be some drastic changes made in both practice and doctrine in the days to come. To do so will involve much humbling of self, and a far greater acceptance of the brethren in Christ. Change does not come easily to those who are in leadership. The Lord does have a way of convincing us of His will that is very effective. The scriptures make it very clear that there is only one body, one spirit, one Lord, one faith and one baptism. All others failing to meet the divine stipulations will find themselves excluded from the most precious act of the Lord. The marriage of the lamb. Eph. 4:3-5 The thought of unity may not be readily acceptable to some. We need to consider the appeal of Paul when he said, “is Christ divided?” 1 Cor. 1:13 Our response would be almost automatically, “of course not”. Then there must be a place of complete amalgamation one with another - in Christ. There are evidences of a change, however minor, amongst those in leadership today where there is a greater acceptance of those who may have different ideas in relationship to the Word. Walls are coming down. Attitudes are being changed. There is a feeling for unity that has not been evident in times past; we are in the beginning of a great change in the body of Christ that will result in a world sweeping revival which will prepare the Bride for her Bridegroom. The Lord will bring His plans of a righteous work to their consummation, quickly, for the Lord will make a short, and final work of salvation upon the earth. Rom. 9:28 We are living in exciting times. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 47 KNOWING THE SON. There is no greater privilege extended to mankind than that of having an intimate and very real knowledge of the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. Be assured that His bride will possess a full and complete knowledge of who and what He is. Each and every member of the body will have the same knowledge and understanding of the Lord Jesus. A full comprehension of His person is necessary for the bonding together of the bride. Eph. 4:13 Paul expressed his deep hunger and longing for the fulfillment of his hearts desire and that was to know Christ more fully. The things for which he had striven prior to his accepting Christ, he was willing to lose and lay aside that he might gain his purpose in Christ. His goal was the “excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord”. An excellency which cannot be superseded. A knowledge which is the absolute epitome of all that can be called knowledge or comprehension. Eph. 4:13 A knowledge, an understanding, that can only come through the avenue of the Spirit, who will make the Lord Jesus known through the wisdom and revelation of the Word. What is needed to be understood is already recorded in the Word. We need not go outside of its covers to come to a complete revelation of the person and being of the Lord Jesus. Eph. 1:17 Again, it is the Spirit who enlightens, and reveals to our understanding the secrets of His heart. Eph. 1:18 Paul prayed for the church that they might be filled with the knowledge of His will, in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. The word is a living word. Every day, like the manna in the wilderness, its revelations are renewed and refreshed to us. Its knowledge has not been exhausted, it is fresh and reviving. Col. 1:9 UNTO A PERFECT MAN. See the shining example set before us and accept the challenge. “Unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ”. Eph. 4:13 If it was not meant to be, then why even issue the challenge? The fact that in the next verse he placed his words in the “here and now” show us that there is a dire need to strive for the prize set before us. The word “henceforth” (v. 14) makes the subject to be something that needs to be accomplished in this life. Verse fourteen is so relevant to our present day, and will be even more so in the days to come. The word “perfect” simply portrays a spiritual maturity that may be reached by all, and in particular those who will be in the Bride of Christ. It bears the connotation of Spiritual growth. That growth can only be complete when the church reaches the stature of Christ. Love must be the basis of every marriage. Only love can stand the test and the trials of trying to blend two natures into one. The Lord Jesus will not chose a bride who has not demonstrated a strong, dedicated love for Him by obedience to His Word. Anything short of total consecration to His will and manner of life will leave the individual on the outside of the marriage. His Bride will bear His exact likeness in every way possible. She will come to a full age that is reached only by the washing of the Word, and not by longevity as a Christian. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 48 THE LORD, IS THE LORD OF THE IMPOSSIBLE. To limit His ability to accomplish His aspiration is sin. It is His divine purpose to build a sinless church, comprised of a victorious people. All of whom have overcome sin in every aspect of their lives. Consider the words of the Lord Jesus, “with men it is impossible, BUT NOT WITH GOD for with HIM ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE.“ Mark 10:27 Again, “FOR WITH GOD NOTHING SHALL BE IMPOSSIBLE.” Luke 1:37 The church stands in need of the revelation of the full and perfect will of the Lord for our lives. It is not His purpose to make us miserable because of our short comings and failures, but in His word He has shown us a better way. Deliverance from worldly habits and iniquities will always produce great relief and joy in our hearts. How much more the stature of a full grown, mature spiritual person. He has given the five fold ministry for the explicit aim of bringing the church to complete maturity. Eph. 4:12 The goal of the Apostle Paul in his preaching was motivated by his desire for the church that he might present each and every one perfect before the Lord. Col. 1:28 CONSIDER THE “BE YE’S.” “Be ye” transformed, changed, transfigured. Literally to go through a metamorphoses. A thorough, complete change. That we might know the perfect will of the Lord. A process which involves the soul and mind as well as the spirit. Rom. 12:2 In malice be ye children, but in understanding be men or be mature. An understanding of the will of the Lord which encourages us to the perfection which He has made available. 1 Cor. 14:20 “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers.” This applies in marriage, business and even in those with whom we fellowship. It does not mean that we draw ourselves away from the world but it does mean that we limit our associations with the unsaved. 2 Cor. 6:14 In company with this is the call “be ye separate.” Come out of the unclean practices of this world. Conduct yourself in all avenues of life according to Biblical standards. 2 Cor. 6:17 “Be ye not unwise.” Know the scriptures for they will, guide you into practices that are acceptable of the Lord and are pleasing to Him. Eph. 5:7 Most importantly, “be ye doers of the Word.” The scriptures contain instruction and directions for every avenue of life. They establish a teaching that produces a happy and contented life now and eternal life to come. James 1:22 Be holy, be pure, be clean in all of your conduct for it is recorded, “be ye holy, for I am holy. 1 Pet. 1:15-16 Jesus would never have challenged His people with an impossibility. Therefore He said, “be ye perfect even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” Mt. 5:48 There are too many statements and too much witness in the scriptures for us to deny that the Lord will purify and cleanse His church in these last days. The Lord has never spoken a foolish or idle word. His Word is yea and amen. All of His promises will be fulfilled in the lives of His people. We shall yet experience a cleansing force in the church world which will work a most amazing work of the grace of the Lord. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 49 MEASURED. The Lord, in instructing Moses for the building of the tabernacle in the wilderness gave very careful and explicit instructions and measurements. He was to build it according to the pattern, the shape, the size, and the measurements that were given Him in the mount. Ex. 25:9 That which he built was but a replica of what he had seen on the mount. In other words, Moses had seen the heavenly which is the real and everlasting. If the Lord so fervently commanded him to follow the blueprint for the earthly, how much more will He require exact workmanship for the heavenly. The earthly tabernacle was but a shadow and an example of that which is eternal. How much more forceful are the requirements for that which is heavenly. Heb. 8:5 OF THE STATURE. The measuring rod is always before us. We are encouraged to meet the standards of the Word by using Christ Jesus as our measurement, which is exactly what the Apostle is advocating in stating the qualifying factors for those who would be real members of the body of Christ. It is needful that we note that in the book of final things, the book of Revelation, there is a rod, a very special rod with which the temple of God is to be measured. We would all anticipate that we will be involved in the last day activities between Jesus and His church. Our participation depends entirely on how we measure up. The rod is the Word, the Lord Jesus. The temple is measured, as well as those who worship there. That most definitely involves all who are concerned with having a part in last day activity. Those who cannot pass the microscopic inspection of the Lord will not be in the Bride of Christ. Rev. 11:1 THE NEW JERUSALEM. The city which is the Bride of Christ will undergo an inspection of the Lord and will pass with flying colors. This time a golden reed is used and it is called, “the measure of a man.” In using this measurement we are reminded that Jesus was a man. A man who faced every temptation common to mankind. He faced temptation as a man, not as deity, yet He was triumphant over all that Satan could throw at Him. The same elements that He used to conquer temptation are made available to His church today. We have the same Holy Spirit, the same almighty and most powerful Word of the Lord. He set and established the basis for admission to the Bride/City. Rev. 21:15-17 These are the people who live according to the teachings of the Word of the Lord. The foundation of all that will be revealed is built upon the basics, such as forgiveness, for one. Forgiving those who have wronged us, even in a horrible manner. Mt. 6:14-15 Making certain that the fundamentals are all in place that we might go on in growth and strength in our spiritual life. Our vision must reach out to the ultimate, the conclusion of the efforts of the Lord in His church. At such a time, He will have accomplished a church of maturity that may easily be measured without fear of coming short in any manner. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 50 KNEELING FOR A GOOD CAUSE. His reason was for the benefit of the body of Christ. He most certainly had a good cause, due to the nature of the plan of the Lord, in bowing before the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is an imperative that we learn to approach the Father in the name of His Son, the Lord Jesus. Eph. 3:14 We are extended the right to use His name in approaching the Father with our petitions. His promise embraces the “WHATSOEVER” which is certainly all inclusive. Could it be that there are some prayers that are unanswered because they are misdirected? The instructions of the Lord Jesus are certainly very understandable. John 15:16 The fullness of His name, the Lord Jesus Christ, is also to be conferred upon His earthly and heavenly family. Eph. 3:15 SEEKING A HEAVENLY GRANT. This was not something that Paul was seeking for himself. Having a real love and burden for the church he prayed that they might receive the “riches of His glory.” Eph. 3:16 (Amplified Bible, “from the rich treasures of His glory.”) An inexhaustible supply of blessing and glory. All who will receive are made to be the beneficiary of “the riches of His grace.” This is the key to the riches of His glory; through the precious blood of Jesus we are saved by His abundant grace. A grace that covers every sinner and all their sin, providing they confess their wickedness. Eph. 1:7 What a great and wonderful Lord we serve. It is the manifestation of His grace and glory that is seen in the promise that He will supply our every need. It must be noted that Paul did not say all that we might desire but very positively all our need. All supplied by His “riches in glory.” Phil. 4:19 There may not always be a surplus, but there is a definite assurance of a constant and sufficient supply meeting our every need. A WORK WROUGHT IN THE INNER MAN. The spiritual man is strengthened by the might and power of the Lord. He is reinforced with the mighty power of the Lord. That is a boundless and everlasting source of divine strength which is made available at all times to those who call upon the Lord. The Greek word ‘dunamis’ is used here by Paul. The power of the Spirit is not limited to the strength of dynamite but is far greater that any explosive element produced by men. The power created by man destroys and produces death. The power of the Lord renews and refreshes giving life and happiness, for it is He who gives us the “power of an endless life.” Heb. 7:16 The outer man, the man of flesh, is made subject to age, illnesses and death. Therefore, he is that which is in the process of perishing. The inner man, the spirit nature, is the seat of that which is eternal; some to eternal life, others to eternal death. Those who have been born of the Spirit have the Spirit of Christ who imparts eternal life to them. It is that inner man which is in contact with the Lord, and it is the Spirit of the Lord who renews us daily. The life of the Lord flows through the spiritual man. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 51 THAT CHRIST MAY DWELL IN YOUR HEARTS. So many times and in so many ways the Lord expresses His most sincere desire to dwell IN His people. It is a work of faith where the believer has trust and confidence in the promises of His Word. Oddly enough, He is depicted as standing at the door of the church, this is not the door of the sinner but that of His people. The letter is written to the church. Waiting and knocking, He is outside anxiously seeking entrance. Those who hear His voice and bid Him welcome find that He has come prepared to abide and to eat with them. Rev. 3:20 What meal would He rather eat with them other than the communion? There is a very real connection between participating in the table of the Lord and the abiding presence of the Lord in us. There is a saying today which dietitians often repeat, “you are what you eat.” It is never more true than in the case of participating in the eating of the body and the blood of the Lord. That simple act of faith triggers the promise of the Lord Jesus that if we eat of Him, we dwell in Him and He is us. Jn 6:56 CHRIST LIVETH IN ME. The words of the Apostle Paul present an example of what is necessary to reach that high and holy calling where the physical body is filled with the Lord. He had so entered into the experiences of following the Lord Jesus that he could say that he was crucified with Christ. He had arrived at that place where he was crucified unto the things of this world. To die to self and all the demands of the flesh is a great step in achieving the separation which is necessary for Christ to dwell within. Christ indeed, lived within him. The life which he lived after the experience of being crucified with Christ was a life of great faith. Gal. 2:20 He lived a life in the power of the resurrected Christ. Consider the fact that he was stoned in Lycaonia (Acts 14:9) These people of the region judged him to be worthy of capital punishment and executed a death sentence by stoning him. They did not merely throw stones at him but consistently cast stones upon him until he was dead then dragged him out of the city and cast his carcass outside of the city. Acts 14:19 Can you imagine the emotions of the disciples as they stood around him. Most certainly there were some extreme thoughts running through their minds. In the midst of all this he stood up and went back into the city and the next day took off on a missionary journey. Because he was filled with the life of Christ, that power of resurrection, he was able to come to life again and act as if they had not harmed him in any way. Were there not a demonstration of super natural power here, he could not have merely recovered, but also have been totally healed of all his contusions, wounds and broken bones. The scriptures plainly show that Paul experienced death frequently. He said that he was in “deaths oft.” Not facing death but literally died only to come to life again. 2 Cor. 11:23 Also he had spent a day and a night in the depths of the sea. That is surely enough time for one to drown. Yet he lived. 2 Cor. 11:25 Only when he came to the end did he say, “I am now ready.” 2 Tim. 4:6 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 52 RESULTS OF CHRIST DWELLING WITHIN. One thing is certain, regardless of how good a person may be, it is impossible to live the Christ life without Christ within. Were a person capable of living precisely according to the demands of the Law. They would still come short of the righteousness that is in Christ. The dwelling presence of Christ will develop the following. ROOTS. Roots speak to us of stability. The tree depends on its roots to withstand the storms. Those who are truly in Christ will establish a strong root system and become rooted and established in the faith that is in Christ Jesus. Col. 2:7 The fruitfulness of the tree depends on the ability of the roots to establish a deep root system. Isa. 37:31 Roots are used as a sign of an established dynasty and in this case an eternal kingdom. Jesus, the Messiah, is that root that had its beginnings in Jesse. Because of its well developed and strong root system it became more than something hidden in the earth and unseen. It became an ensign that attracted the people to the tree, the Lord Jesus. Isa. 11:10 The Root of David reigns in prevailing strength and is capable of opening the seven seals when none other could. Rev. 5:5 Jesus is both the root and the offspring of David. Leading as a King and at the same time maintaining and sustaining His very own people. Rev. 22:16 Righteous roots abide in excellent strength and are not plucked up, for they cannot be moved. Prov. 12:3 ROOTS. The roots of a tree are one of the three main parts of a tree, the leaves, the trunk and the roots. There are so many things in the creation of the Lord that show us His divine nature; He has interjected Himself in all that He has created. The roots are the source of nourishment for the tree. They absorb water and minerals to feed and maintain the life of the tree. They also store nourishment during the winter months when the tree is not producing sap. A good healthy tree is like the righteous man, established and yielding fruit. Prov. 12:12 Not only are we rooted in love but we are to have a ‘working love.’ A love which is established and fruitful. Gal. 5:6 Salvation is assured as long as we continue in the faith, grounded and settled. Col. 1:24 A well established root system is an assurance of the proper growth of the tree. Rooted and grounded in Christ Jesus we grow up and become established in the faith of Christ. Col. 2:7 GROUNDED. Settled and established, possessing a good foundation. Jesus used the parable of the two men building houses one on the sand and the other digging down until he found solid rock and then building. Floods showed the strength and weakness of the two choices; though all the strength of the flood waters were beating on the well founded house, it could not be moved. Luke 6:48-49 The difference was that one followed normal procedure while the other did his own thing. The one had hearing ears, the other was deaf to any suggestions. So very much like the nature of mankind, even today. Hear the WORD, its instructions lead to eternal life. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 53 COMPREHENDING. Literally, to be in possession of a full and comprehensive knowledge of the love of Christ. Arriving at a knowledge of the broadness of that marvelous love of Christ. It is like a vast plain stretching out as far as the eye can see, leaving one with the impression that there is no limit to its enormity. Its length would be no less of a measurement to its width. There is no length to which the wicked may go that is unreachable and beyond the length of His love to save and redeem. He has paid the price for the greatest most extreme of sinners. To the high and mighty, to the dignitaries of this world, the mighty who hold themselves to be above the common people, His love is extended. The depths of His love is spread out to the most degraded of individuals. In manifesting and extending His love He has covered the broad spectrum of humanity. None are beyond the reach of Calvarys love. Eph. 3:18 So great is His love that it is beyond the capability of the unsaved mind to fully understand its greatness. To the redeemed, He would have them know that which is beyond knowledge, that is, the great magnitude of His love. In His love He loved all with an equal compassion and fervor. The knowledge of His love comes by experience and the revelation of the Word. That glorious love is extended to all. Everyone coming to Him may participate in the blessings of His love. COMPLETELY FILLED. Filled with the Lord to the utmost of one's capacity. It is an utterly amazing thing that the Lord wants to prepare His people to be His temple. It is simply another demonstration of His tremendous love. As astonishing as it is, it is a scriptural fact that He wants complete occupancy of the heart and life of those who would be in the Bride of Christ. Were that a mere assumption it, would still be a reasonable requirement. The church, which is the body of Christ is to be filled with the divine person of Christ who is the fullness of all things. Eph. 1:23 The absolute unity of the body depends entirely on all having one and the same indwelling “fullness of Christ.” That anointing, that glory, is the only element in the universe that can unify the body and cause it to function as one. The destiny of the church is to achieve the fullness of the high calling which is to be found in the Lord Jesus. The good pleasure of the Father was that the fullness of the Godhead find an abiding place in the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 1:9 To emphasis his statement Paul was to proclaim that, “In Him, [that is in Jesus], dwelt all the fullness of the Godhead bodily”. Col. 2:9 That places the completed, the grown up, body of Christ in a finished status. No longer growing, no longer in a process of change, but having arrived at the place in Christ where Christ Jesus is all in all. Those who are filled with the being of the Almighty are a blessed people; while being possessed of the Lord, they are possessing His nature and character. They are the accomplishment of all that the Lord started with in Adam and Eve. He will have a perfect last Adam and Bride. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 54 THE DEPTHS OF THE INTENT OF THE LORD TOWARD HIS PEOPLE. We can know how much He loves us, and to what great measures He will work in order to fulfill His will in our lives. He has prepared the very best for those who will love Him and serve Him with all of their hearts. The following translation of Eph. 3:19 will help to emphasize some of His feelings toward His beloved. “(That you may really come) to know- The love of Christ which far surpasses mere knowledge (without experience), that you may be filled (through all of your being) with all the fullness of God - (that is) may have the richest measure of the Divine presence and become a body filled and flooded with God Himself.” Amplified Version. This seems to accentuate the essential areas of the verse that show the precious intent and purpose of the Lord. UNDERSCORING THE POSITION OF THE BRIDE. The personality, the nature, the essence, the only being in all of time and in all of the universe who can say, I AM LOVE. The expression, the revelation of that love is directed toward human kind. There is no other person who has ever lived with the capability of demonstrating that love in the same manner that He has. That love bridges the gap between sinful man and a just and holy Lord. His love reaches down to the lowest, the most wicked of mankind and is expressed and demonstrated in them through His forgiveness. Anyone who has ever experienced that Majestic love knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that is very real. There is no other love that can even begin to compare to it. It is a love that is unique to Him, and to Him alone. One touch of His forgiveness and our hearts are captivated by the magnitude of the love of Christ. He who dwells in love, the love of the Lord, is assured that the promises of His abiding presence will be accomplished in His church. He cannot abide in us nor can we abide in Him without that wondrous love filling our hearts. 1 John 4:16 LOVE PERFECTED. Such love can only result in a marriage between two persons who are of equal rank, those who have the same goal and purpose. There is no doubt concerning the love of Christ for His people. In offering Himself as the only acceptable and perfect sacrifice He has demonstrated the greatness of His love. Now it is up to those who would be in His Bride to reciprocate that love by perfecting their love for Him. Making Him to be the only one true love of our hearts. As He will have a perfect church, there must then be a divine motivation directing the people of the Lord toward the completion of His aims in their lives. The source of that which will lead the church to the high standard that He has established for her is perfected love. His love manifest in us will conform our lives to His cause, creating an overwhelming desire to be like Him and to please Him in ever facet of our lives. We see then, that He dwells where He is loved. When He is loved the full magnitude of that love is made known. The Lord is love. He dwells in and with love in those who will love Him. 1 John 4:17 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 55 BECAUSE AS HE IS. SO ARE WE, here and now, in this present dispensation. In this current world. There would be no question if John had placed such a blessed condition off into the heavenly future. We know that in eternity, we will have a body just like His resurrected body. When John said, “in this world” he made it quite apparent that he meant it to be for today. Not even tomorrow, but today. 1 John 4:17 The same thought is to be found in the writings of the Apostle Paul to the Roman church. He defined predestination as conformation to the “image of His Son”, which would exalt the Lord Jesus to the position of being the first born among many who bear His image and likeness. That again is something that relates to this life, here on earth. The Lord Jesus has privileged us to fill the vacancy left by His departure from this life. We are ambassadors of Christ and directly represent Him to this world. A responsibility which requires an intimate knowledge of all of His virtues and the ability to demonstrate them to this world. 2 Cor. 5:20 HIS BLESSING IS OURS, NOW. He has already blessed us with all the spiritual blessings available in the heavenly kingdom. It is important that we take note of the fact that He “HATH” prepared and provided the rich blessings of the Lord for our benefit, now. Along with that He “HATH” raised us up together. He “HATH” also caused us to sit together with Christ in heavenly places. Eph. 2:6 There is most definitely an emphasis in these verses of an accomplished matter; the availability of the rich fulfillment of these promises is for today. It is high time that we awakened to all the powers and blessings which are ours in the Lord Jesus and avail ourselves of them. We are paupers if we do not share in all the rich spiritual blessings that have been purchased for us. HIS INTENT. The reasoning of the Lord in all that He has done for the church is that she might be on display, showing forth the glorious light of the gospel and the glory of the Lord. The church that He has visualized is a church of power, glory and great demonstration of His might. It is the demonstration of His manifold wisdom not only to those on earth but to all authorities and dignitaries which are to be found in the kingdom of heaven. Eph. 3:10 The standards of the Lord may seem high and almost unreachable - and they are, except that this is what He wants to see developed, to its fullness in the body of Christ. All the necessary means of obtaining the high and holy calling in Christ Jesus have been made available to the church. Rest assured that the Lord will find a people who will submit themselves to His desire and in them will be seen all the fullness of the Lord. He will receive unto Himself in these last days that body of believers who comprise the “perfect”, faultless Bride of Christ called a “glorious church” that is absolutely without a fault of any kind. Eph. 5:27 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 56 WHERE IS THE KINGDOM OF THE LORD? If we are seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus and we are, Eph. 2:6 then the words of Jesus are true and active today. Jesus said, “The kingdom of God is within you”. Luke 17:21 To those who have applied for citizenship in the kingdom of the Lord, that kingdom has indeed come. There is a coming eternal kingdom that we have to look forward to and anticipate with joyful hearts; however, we live in the present, and greatly need the benefits of the kingdom for this current life. The kingdom as it now exists in the church is a kingdom that is spiritually alive and active in the moving and operation of the Spirit. It is made manifest because Christ lives within. His life and power will be made manifest. Col. 1:27 The nature and atmosphere of His kingdom is one of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. Rom. 14:17 The presence of that kingdom and its King, the Lord Jesus, will be manifest in the power of deliverance, where devils are expelled in the name of Jesus. Mt. 12:28 The healing of the sick is another evidence of the residence of the King and His kingdom with all of its authority and dominion. Luke 10:9 The kingdom of the Lord is a very active and practical kingdom truly meeting the needs of the people. It is not a kingdom of empty political promises for its covenant is yea and amen in Christ Jesus. THE EXTENT OF HIS KINGDOM ON EARTH. It is a kingdom that makes manifest powers that are possessed by no other kingdom on earth; it is not limited by boundaries or protocol. Its message will go to the uttermost parts of the earth, where it is declared by witnesses and ambassadors who have been anointed and called for that particular purpose. They are granted the privilege of proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom in all of its glory and majesty. They do and will meet opposition but the message cannot be stopped by any means until its utmost limit, the end of the earth, and the end of time, has been reached. Mark 16:15 HIS WORD AND DOCTRINE. In the Word, whether spoken of written, is made manifest the strength and government of the kingdom. Combine the Word and the Spirit, and it becomes the “ALL POWER” of the Lord Jesus; when He spoke the word men were astonished. Luke 4:32 Jesus, in facing the devil and his temptations, responded with the statement that “it is written”. Mt. 4:3-10 That tricky old devil, after the first temptation threw the words right back at Jesus by saying, “it is written.” v. 6 However, it did not work. “Surely the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God.” 2 Cor. 10:4 We have a kingdom that has been thoroughly tested in every possible manner and found to be sufficient to be victorious and fulfilling in every way. What a challenge lies before us to enter in to every right and advantage which is made instantly available to us as citizens of that eternal glorious kingdom. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 57 STRENGTH IN WEAKNESS. The Lord takes advantage of the weakness of man, through the inadequacy of man, to display HIS strength. In the impossible, He is manifest as the Almighty. To Paul, the Lord proclaimed, that His strength reached its perfection in the weakness of the human instrument. The power of the Lord is not dependent on the strength of man. Flesh can only hinder the workings of the Lord. Paul learned to live with his physical frailties and to trust fully in the power and glory of Christ. 2 Cor. 12:9 What an attitude we find in Paul. Because of the resulting manifestation of the glory of the Lord those adversities in life, over which we gripe and complain, he welcomed into his life. For he had learned that when he was weak, the power of the Lord was evident. He actually said that he delighted in insults, persecution, hardships and difficulties, all because of the resulting evidence of the strength of Christ is such situations. Surely, it is time that we adopt the same attitude and recognize that we can experience the very same thing in our Spiritual lives. We can be joyous and revel in our infirmities even as Paul did. Why let our problems get us down when we can be “UP” in Christ. 2 Cor. 12:10 LOSS, BUT NOT LOSS. There are some things that are worth losing, particularly so when they are lost for the Lords sake. The world might highly value the things that Paul lost, but in contrast to his gain, they were as nothing. It is utterly impossible to out do the Lord in anything. The benefits reaped, so far out gained the things lost, that it made them appear to be as nothing. Worldly goods, attainments, and ambitions, Paul laid aside that he might excel in the knowledge of Christ. The man was truly captivated by the Lord Jesus and had great desires and ambitions to fully know and understand Christ. He sought the righteousness that is in Christ, which may only be achieved by faith in the Lord. Paul then uttered some of the most profound words to be found in the Bible. “That I may know Him.” That was what the life of Paul was all about. To really know Christ Jesus in all of His Majesty. Then to know and experience the “power of His resurrection” in his own life. A change, a release, from the beggarly elements of his world and to comprehend the completeness of that new life that is in the Lord Jesus Christ. Where he had been all out for the Law at one time, he now was fully determined to know everything and all that was to be known of Christ and the life which Jesus imparts to those who know Him. Jesus suffered for the kingdom's sake. Paul suffered for the same cause, but the harvest that they reaped is completely out of this world, it is eternal and everlasting. Paul also was greatly desirous of “being made conformable” to the death of Christ. He saw and understood all of its advantages for his life and the one to come. Phil. 3:8-10 Paul was not sadistic, nor did he have a death wish. Contrary wise, he was seeking for a life that was totally dedicated and surrendered to the Lord Jesus. The same privilege has been and still is in order for the church in its consecration to the Lord. The life in which Christ rules and reigns is a life of great joy and blessing. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 58 HEAVENLY TREASURES. The treasure of heaven, transmitted to vessels of earth. Common ordinary clay pots that are easily obtained at any market of store. Nothing spectacular or outstanding about them except for their contents. The Lord, who is light, commanded the light of the Word to shine into the hearts of these lowly receptacles bringing them the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as it is reflected in the face of the Lord Jesus. The Lord is consistent in revealing Himself to His people. There is no reason for there not being great advancement in the church in enlightenment and comprehension of His person. He is most desirous of making known to every member of the body of Christ the fullness of His eternal majesty and glory. 2 Cor. 4:6 A PROCESS OF REVELATION. The understanding and knowledge of who the Lord is, comes to us by disclosure, through His Word. The Word of the Lord, the Scriptures, are the most amazing thing on this earth. In the Word are to be found all the hidden treasures of wisdom and knowledge. The Word must be read with an open Spirit that is ready at any moment to have its treasures disclosed. The treasures of the Lord, the hidden things, are laid out in the open for all to see; but not all discern what they are reading. The words they understand, but the Spirit is foreign to them. There is no other book like the Word of the Lord. Reading it with an open spirit and heart will most certainly bring illumination. The vessel receiving the treasures of glory will begin to reflect that same glory. The presence of His treasure, in us, will promote a change. As the rays of the sun affect every thing they touch, so the glory of the Lord will produce drastic changes, for good, in the vessels which contain that glory. There is even now, a process of transformation taking place in the lives of those who are basking in the glory of the Lord. The container is being altered into the likeness of the glory of the Lord which has been deposited in it. This is a work accomplished by the “Lord, who is the Spirit.” 2 Cor. 3:10 THE HIDDEN GOSPEL. There is no bond, no agreement between light and darkness. Light will always dispel darkness. Those who are afflicted with Spiritual blindness are unable to see the glory of the Lord secreted in His Word. Those who are of the light will have their eyes opened to divine truths from the Word of the Lord. Those who do not walk in the light will bypass the Word, saying it is meaningless because they are blinded by the god of this world, and the true light, the light of truth, is not in them. 2 Cor. 4:4 Light and knowledge illuminate and instruct. How much more the living Word of the Lord will lead and guide into all truth. Jesus is truth. The light that accompanies His truth will result in life everlasting. There is no darkness in Him. Those who walk in His light are vessels of light and are candidates to be filled with all the fullness of the Lord. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 59 LIGHT, A TREASURE. Jesus said, “I AM, the light of the world." John 8:12 Every time Jesus said, “I AM” He was proclaiming His Deity. “I AM,” communicates a message to us of the “Self existent one”, the unique person who exists with no support or help from any other being. He alone is the only source of life, for He is very life itself, whether it be natural or spiritual life. All life emanates from Him. In addressing those who believe on Him and follow Him he said, “YE ARE the light of the world.” Mt. 5:14 In this manner He proclaimed the value of the treasure that is in the earthen vessel. That light of life that is in Christ is also in His people. The life, the light, the works of the Lord Jesus must continue to be made manifest through His church. The demonstration of the power of God was not limited to His generation but is for us today in the same display of His glory as then. Jesus promised His church that they would do even greater works than those seen in His day. If in no other way, the sheer volume of the precious works of the Spirit wrought though the church exceed in number. John 14:12 WHO AND WHAT WE ARE “IN CHRIST.” Jesus said, “YE ARE,” my friends. There is no friend like Jesus. He has promised that He would never leave nor forsake us. He is that friend who is present in a time of need. He stays with us when all others forsake us and turn away from us. His friendship is eternal and everlasting. There is a requirement that we demonstrate, that is, that we follow His commandment. John 15:14 “YE ARE,” Clean. There is no existing ecstasy on earth like that of the sudden realization that the Lord Jesus has forgiven our sin and cleansed us from all unrighteousness. There is no greater joy than that of having the burden of sin removed from us. The precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7 The Word of the Lord is also used in the cleansing. Jesus said. “Now are YE clean thorough the Word that I have spoken unto you.” Therefore it is vitally necessary that we both read and hear the Word for it worked a work of righteousness in us. The Spirit of life that is in Christ and subsequently in us also creates freedom from the Law of sin and death. Rom. 8:2 Every procedure of the Lord worked out in our lives is toward purification of the vessel containing the treasure. “YE ARE,” Enriched by Him. The words of Paul were not directed toward natural riches but once again emphasized those things which really count, the spiritual. Made rich in understanding of, and by the proclamation of the Word of the Lord. 1 Cor. 1:5 The people took note of Peter and John, of whom it was said that they were “unlearned and ignorant men” who had been with Jesus. These men had become enriched in knowledge and in the Word of the Lord through their association with Christ. Acts 4:13 While some seek the riches of this life the wise seek first the kingdom of the Lord. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 60 THE GREAT HOUSE. The mixed multitude in the house of the Lord. It is obvious that not all are influenced alike by the atmosphere or the teaching of the house in which they assemble. There are vessels of gold and silver, which because of their value and beauty are often placed on display or carefully used. Then there are the cooking pots and pans of earthen ware and wood, which are usually confined to the cooking quarters. When compared, some are honorable while the others are dishonorable. Even so, they are together in the great house. The choice rests squarely on the individual as to what manner of vessel they propose to be. The processes of refinement are all in place, in the Word. Unfortunately, not all will respond to the Word's ability to change, mold, and shape our lives. The natural course of growth is according to one's years. Spiritual growth depends on a number of things, among them a real commitment of our lives unto the Lord. A willingness to be involved in the Word. In obedience and in a love for it. A consistent reading and study of it. 2 Tim. 2:20 FOUNDATIONS. How very important is the foundation of a building. Architects today are aware of the need of greater strength in the construction of buildings due to the might of floods, hurricanes, earthquakes and whatever disasters may strike a particular area of our world. The same must be true in our lives as Christians. Facing the end of the age, and all of its consequences, we need a firm foundation. Paul lists for us six types of foundations upon which men are building their spiritual life and hope of heaven. Very understandable are the gold, silver and precious stone foundations for they are of great value. What is troubling is that there are those who are content with wood, hay and even stubble. It is unbelievable that people would risk their eternal future on such corruptible elements. 1 Cor. 3:12 TESTED BY FIRE. To be tested by fire simply means that the person will stand before the Lord. 1 Cor. 3:13 Our God is a consuming fire. Heb. 12:29 There is no question of the outcome as one would stand before this all consuming fire. The wood, hay and stubble would be completely burned up. There is a reason for the baptism of the Holy Spirit being noted as a baptism of fire; that sort of a baptism would immediately destroy any weak and destructible foundation. More than ever before, we need the baptism of the Holy Ghost - and FIRE. The church needs to be purged and sanctified, and that includes all of us, none excluded. Mt. 3:11 The fulfillment of the feast of Tabernacles in the church will be a time of cleansing and refreshing from the presence of the Lord. It is that last day revival that is such a popular message today. It is a truth that has completely changed the former teaching of so many. We are grateful to see that the Lord will give the church another opportunity to reach that standard for His people which He has established in the WORD. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 61 FROM HERE ON. One of the evidences of a strong spiritual life and influence is the ability to grow beyond the baby stage. An infant needs individual and constant attention. Far too many in the church of today fit into this category. There is a floating cloud of misdirected people who float from church to church, from seminar to seminar and from big service to big service always looking for the spectacular. They never reach a measure of maturity where they can stand on their own, but must always be bottle and spoon fed. They are tossed about by waves of doctrine. Blown every which way by strange and contrary teachings. All this is accomplished by scheming and clever people whose whole purpose is money (Eph. 4:14), the love of which is the root of all evil. The after effect of such action is that they err from the truth and are beset by manifold sorrows. Money cannot buy happiness. 1 Tim. 6:10 CONTRARYWISE. We are admonished to “Buy” the truth and not to reliquinish it. It is the true source of wisdom, instruction and spiritual understanding. Prov. 23:23 It is Jesus who is the “TRUTH” that generates eternal life. Outside of Jesus there is no truth. He was able to say, I AM the TRUTH. In Christ is found the essence, all the essential qualities that make up the TRUTH. The fact that some cannot receive the TRUTH does not alter things one bit. He is still TRUTH personified and shall ever remain the same. John 14:6 Consider the very strong language of Paul, “Let God be true, but every man is a liar.” Rom. 3:4 Oh, that the leadership of the church might listen to the voice of the Spirit, for He too is TRUTH. That is His character and being. He will speak only the truth to us. Jesus promised to send the Spirit of TRUTH to His church. John 15:26 The Word of the Lord is TRUTH. It is the written and spoken Word to His church. All the divine instructions which are necessary for a model Christian life are contained within its covers. It is more than a printed word. It is a living Word. A life bestowing Word. An eternal Word. TRUTHS THAT ARE REVEALED THROUGH HIS LOVE. Where there is a real and true love for the Lord there will be a deepening of the Spiritual life and a better comprehension of the will of the Lord as seen in His Word. True love, creates a distinct dislike for those things which are evil and contrary to the Word. Love will cause us to want to be filled with the Word and all of its beauties. Rom. 12:9 A love for, and an obedience to, His Word, is a hallmark of true Christianity. The truth will correct. It will cause pain if we have left its tenents and are in the process of correction. Love and truth have the ability to amalgamate the body of Christ and will be the instrument whereby the Lord will bring His church into those perfection’s that will ultimately be called The Bride of Christ. 1 Peter 1:22 Remember, not one jot nor tittle will pass away before all is fulfilled. The Lord has established His Word and inasmuch as He is God He will cause it to come to fruition. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 62 WHO WE ARE. Each and every member of the body of Christ is the workmanship of the Lord. Eph. 2:10 Submission to Him allows Him to perfect His will in our lives. He has taken a personal interest in building and preparing His people for their ultimate, living, destiny. He is forming and shaping a people to the praise and glory of His name. If man in his wisdom and creative abilities can manufacture such wonders as we live with today, how much more is the Lord highly capable of creating in Christ Jesus a perfect set of people who are to be the Bride of Christ. A nation who are to be to the praise and glory of His name. Isa. 42:21 THE GOAL OF THE NEW MAN. In the original creation, after viewing each and every item that He produced, the Lord made the statement that “IT WAS GOOD.” That which He created before the introduction of sin into this world was in absolute perfection. Adam and Eve were beautiful, perfect creatures before the Lord, unquestionably clothed with the very glory of the Lord Himself. When the first was of such a high standard, most certainly the new creation will reach as high a calling, if not higher, for the new is eternal. The building that He is now about to complete is to be in His exact image and likeness. That will not only be in appearance, but in every spiritual way. He will have a people like Himself. Col. 3:10 When Paul mentioned the passing of the old things, did he mean just a part or a portion of that past life before we came to Christ? Or are we really to be like Jesus? He said “ALL THINGS” are become new. With the Lord's “ALL THINGS”, He means just exactly that, “ALL THIINGS.” Either we are new, totally new, or we are an admixture of flesh and Spirit, old and new. 2 Cor. 5:17 PRESERVED. It is not appropriate to put new wine into old bottles. The process of fermentation will cause the old skin to burst and both the bottle and especially the wine will be destroyed. The new goes into new, that both might be preserved. Such action is just good old fashioned horse sense. Mt. 9:17 We want the moving of the Spirit, and a mighty display of the Power of the Holy Ghost, but we are trying to put the new into the old. Before we can have a true revival there must be some changes, yes even some drastic changes in the people who would be in the Bride of Christ. The Revelation letter of the Lord to the Ephesian church came as a warning and an exhortation to renew their first works. Twice in the same verse, He commanded them to repent. To remember the great measure of spirituality which had been theirs, and to take note of how far they had fallen. The Lord does not mince words when He address His people. He never has, nor will He ever. We preach repentance to the unsaved, but how about the saved? Do we need to repent? Failure to do so will cause the light of the truth, the candlestick, to be removed from the midst of the church. That would result in just one thing and that is darkness. Serious, but necessary words. Rev. 2:5 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 63 A WISE AND FITTING PRAYER. The Apostle Paul carried a constant burden for the churches of his day. To the Colossians he wrote that he ceased not to pray for them. His prayer was one for a vital spiritual necessity in their lives and that was that “they might be filled with the knowledge” of the will of the Lord, and that in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. Col. 1:9 Beyond the fundamentals of the gospel there are great treasures of wisdom and knowledge. With the Lord Himself, there is no end to His wisdom and knowledge for He IS both wisdom and knowledge. All of the treasures of the Lord are hidden and awaiting discovery by those who will diligently seek after them. Col. 2:3 The mysteries of the Lord were at one time sealed and hidden from the eyes of men. However, we have come to the age of knowledge. The increase of knowledge was to be a sign of the last days. Right now we are fulfilling that particular sign by running to and fro, by plane, by ship, by car and every other means possible. Knowledge has mushroomed. The Internet has opened a broad spectrum of learning. Almost any subject is available on the monitor before us. No doubt, we are living exactly as was prophesied in Daniel 12:4 These are the last days. PAUL WROTE TO THE PHILLIPIANS ON THIS SAME THEME. His prayers were directed toward them for a particular purpose. That their love might abound more and more in knowledge and in all judgment. Phil. 1:9 As knowledge increases in the world, so the knowledge of Christ must increase in the church. The motivating force of seeking after Him is a love for Him. That love will bring about a beautiful and very intimate knowledge of who He is, and exactly what His will is for us. Paul prayed for specifically three things. That they would approve and seek after those things that are excellent. True excellence is found in the Lord. That they would be sincere in their efforts to seek the Lord. Sincerity in serving the Lord is a gift from Him. No ulterior purposes whatsoever but a profound sincerity before the Lord Jesus. Then he prayed a most important prayer and that was that they might be without offense until the day of Christ. Phil. 1:10 The scriptures are replete with both an open and a subtle approach to that which is the will of the Lord for these last days for His church. His will is that His church reach a standard of holiness, in the end of the age, that is equal to Himself. He is constantly working with us in cleansing and sanctification that when His building project is complete, it will be a perfect structure. Beautiful beyond human words and expectation. He will be glorified in a church that reaches an equality with Him in all things. His Bride will be glorified in and by Him. They share and share alike for they both have the same eternal goals. On earth, it is but the beginning of a love story that is everlasting and eternal. Precious, precious, precious are the words, “when He shall appear, we shall BE LIKE HIM, for we shall see Him as He is.” 1 John 3:2 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 64 HE HAS NOT GIVEN US THE SPIRIT OF THIS WORLD. That which we receive in Christ is not the nature and character of this world. 1 Cor. 2:12 As always, we are given a measuring rod whereby we may measure ourselves and others, as to whether or not we are, of a truth, in Christ. There is a positive distinction made between those that are the Lord's, and those who are not. The things that we value in life demonstrate the spirit and desire of a person. Mt. 6:21 There are two arenas into which the world is divided. Every person is in one or the other. If we seek to solely satisfy the desires of the flesh then we are carnal and most unfortunately, the outcome is death. That is, in spiritually being separated from the presence of the Lord, now and eternally. If, on the other hand, we emphasize the things of the Spirit, we will find life and peace in Jesus. The choice is ours. Rom. 8:5-6 WE RECEIVE THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD. That presents an immediate summons for all those who are in Christ to begin to emulate that wonderful love and spirit that is found in Him. If we really have His Spirit, then we will naturally act like Him. From the very beginning of our spiritual walk we are born of His Spirit. According to the words of the Lord Jesus we are called, “sons of God.” John 1:13 Being sons, there is a new pattern of life that will be followed. More and more, as we learn of Him, what He is will be manifest in us. If you know a senior Pastor and are acquainted with his mannerisms, you can tell those who have been trained under his ministry by their words and actions. It was noted that Peter and John, “had been with Jesus.” Acts 4:13 One cannot fellowship with Jesus without picking up on His attitudes and mode of life. His life is “catching.” His life “IS SPIRITUAL LIFE.” In that LIFE there is LIGHT. That light is the light of the world and that light is Jesus. John 1:5 Light illuminates. It gives to the ability to see our surroundings and rightly evaluate them. Light produces knowledge. His light causes us to know the things that He has so freely provided for us. 1 Cor. 2:12 A portion of those things which He has given us is to understand the mystery which has been kept secret since the foundation of the world. Now is the time for its revelation. Through the scriptures He is making known the mystery of His will. Rom. 16:25-26 The great mystery is the marriage of Christ to His church. Eph. 5:32 This is not an event that is to be put off into the sweet bye and bye. It is an occurrence, that in the schedule of the Lord, is in the not too distant future and will take place here on earth. If we are members of His body and of His bones, then there must be a process of spiritual growth taking place in our lives in preparation for that day. In the midst of all the chaff that is called church today there is a grain that is ripening and will be harvested by the Lord. The chaff is a necessary part of the protection and ripening of the crop. There will be a separation and the chaff will be loosened from the true church and blown away of the breath of the Spirit. He will cleanse His church. Jer. 23:28 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 65 A TWO EDGED SWORD. Among the many favors given to the church, is the ability to use - and trust in - the Word of the Lord, the scriptures. More than any other source, it is the voice of the Lord speaking to His people. There is no other book like it. Particularly when the Spirit of the Lord is opening the Word and enlightening us. Paul writing to the Romans said, “the word is nigh thee.” How close is it? It is in our hearts and in our mouths. Rom. 10:8 When it is in our hearts we may speak it boldly and in utmost confidence proclaim its promises. Consider what we are handling when we deal with the Word, it is a quick Word, that is, it is alive. It goes into action, performing in our lives, that which it promises. Heb. 4:12a That incorruptible seed, the Word of the Lord, produces new life in those who truly hear it. They go through a process of new birth. They are born of the Spirit and the Word. In the altering and changing of our own lives we have a demonstration of the power and ability of that Word. 1 Pet. 1:3 Real life, eternal life, does not begin until one is born of the Spirit. Then, for that new born soul and for the mature saint, the only source of life is to be found in the Word. Mt. 4:4 Every one involved in the declaration of the gospel should be a student of the Word THE WORD OF FAITH. It was that which the early church ministry preached. They had the written Pentateuch, the Law. Now the Lord was using them to gives us a written Word, the Word of faith. A vital aspect of faith is that we believe on His name, the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. In His name is revealed all of His nature and character. In the very beginning of our faith walk with Him it is His name which brings the remission of sins. Acts 10:43 The message of the Apostles to the jailer was to, “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ”. His act of faith brought salvation to him and to his household. Acts 16:31 Calling on God for salvation is not sufficient. There are too many gods in this world. There is only one by whose name any man may be saved, and that once again is the Lord Jesus Christ. There is no other name for salvation. When we talk or preach about Jesus, let's identify and specify that we are presenting the Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 4:13 In the gospel is made known to man the power of the Christ of God. The ability to forgive and completely renew the spirit and life style of any person who will believe. Rom. 1:16 The ability to hear is closely tied to faith, for “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of the Lord”. Rom. 10:17 If we are to exercise faith, it must be on the authority of the Word. If we do not have the Word, then we have no access to the faith which is in the Word. Even hearing of itself can be insufficient. There are people who hear every Sunday what the preacher says, but do not hear what the Word says. A true hearing of the Word will bring action and produce works of righteousness in the hearer. The ears may hear words spoken, but if the Word is to benefit and bring forth that for which it is intended, it must be heard with the heart. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 66 THE ETERNAL MIND. A person, existing before there was anything created. Whether in heaven or on earth. We often think of heaven as being everlasting but it too was created by the creator of the ages. Col. 1:16 Every natural thing that is visible to the eye has the mark of His workmanship upon it. The things of the invisible world are also a result of His creative activity. For instance, the very breath we breath, invisible, yet tangible and necessary to all life on this planet. The Lord in the beginning of human life on this earth, breathed into Adam that invisible breath of life. Gen. 2:7 The nations of the world are likewise in His hands; their aims, their attitudes and their actions are all under His control. They are moving in a direction which will fulfill His purpose and will. The current leadership of this world is under His direction. Like it or not they will react according to those things which He has proclaimed in His Word. He knows the end from before the beginning. Rom. 13:1 He created all things with the view in mind of a perfect church, which will become His Bride. His perfect will, will be accomplished. HE MAINTAINS THE BALANCE OF THE UNIVERSE. The Lord is methodical in all that He does. He is the Lord of perfect order. He is never off balance nor off key. He has said, I am the Lord, I change not. Mal. 3:6a Always the same, unchangeable in all of His ministration to mankind. Heb. 7:24 We may rest assured of equal and proper treatment when coming to Him. Prior to the existence of anything of which we have knowledge, He was, He existed. Therefore all things were brought into existence by Him. Their continuance, their order is in His absolute control. Be it summer or winter, the rising or setting of the sun or the constant maintenance of those elements conducive to life on earth, all are in His hands. He is the absolute ruler of the universe. He is the KING over every king, and LORD over every lord. It is Jesus who is the ONLY POTENTATE. Eternal, everlasting, ruling over a kingdom that will never pass away. 1 Tim. 6:15 He is triumphant. He is victorious. The book of Revelation presents Him as the great conquering Savior. Defeating all the works of darkness and inaugurating a new kingdom, with the eventuality of a New Heavens and a New Earth. He is the KING OF KINGS AND THE LORD OF LORDS. Rev. 19:16 He is the essence of eternity. Without Him there would be no future for the people of this world. Thank the Lord, our hope is not in this world but in the One who controls it all. He has prepared for His own a most excellent future. Undying life is His reward to all who will call upon His name. Although some will not admit it, all life, now and in the future, is in the power of His decision. We cannot escape the fact that we have to breath to live and He gives us both, breath and life. Acts 17:28 He is the power that controls the vast universe and the life of the tiniest baby. He is Lord over all. Heb. 1:3c THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 67 WHAT-A FANTASTIC GIFT. This one is certainly out of this world.' The gift? It is the mind of Christ. "But we have the mind of Christ." 1 Cor. 2:16 The mind of Christ, first of all is a spiritual mind. For to be otherwise minded can only produce death. The spiritual mind will yield life and peace. Rom. 8:6 The magnitude of the mind of Christ is so vast that it is impossible for the natural mind of man to comprehend. His is the perfect mind, knowing all, understanding all. Expressing an intelligence, that were it possible to accumulate in one place, the minds of all who have ever lived, by comparison, their comprehension would be but a drop in the bucket to His. An evidence of the sharing of His intelligence is seen in the "opening of the understanding" of those who follow Him that they might understand the scriptures. Luke 24:45 THE MIND OF CHRIST IS A CREATIVE MIND. "All things", excluding nothing that exists, were created by Him. Aside from Christ. there was nothing brought in to being. John 1:3 The strata, the layers of life that are around about us, are each dependent one on the other. This was all planned and executed by Christ. To fit every plant and animal in its proper place in the chain of life on this earth requires an intelligence far beyond that of man. Only a magnificent intelligence could master plan this universe. By comparison, to say that the universe just happened is an insult to the intelligence of mankind. If that were so, then must be said, that all the manufactured gadgets that we use day by day, just happened. No one thought of them in their mind and then created them with their hands. We are living in houses that just happened. Driving cars that just happened on roads that just happened, and so on, infinitely. Ridiculous, isn't it. THE HUMILITY OF CHRIST. Again, an exhortation to be like-minded with Christ. We are to have the same attitude of mind that He demonstrated. In spite of His high and holy position in relationship to the Godhead, He was willing to lay aside all eternal and His previous precious stature to become a servant. Extremity of extremities, from the highest to the lowest. All because of His love for lost humanity. This then, is the mind of Christ which we too are to receive and exemplify. When He became a man, it was in the capacity of one who would serve. A humbling and a service which would eventually lead Him to the cross. Phil. 2:5-8 The way of the heavenly does not follow the manner of this world; in Christ, those who will humble themselves before the Lord will be exalted. Those who exalt themselves will be humbled. Just the opposite of the ways of this world. It is a proven fact that following the pattern of Christ is beneficial, both spiritually and naturally. Mt. 23:12 There is a powerful force of resistance, established by the Lord against those who would live in pride. He grants grace to those who humble themselves before Him. James 4:6 THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 68 THE ETERNAL MIND. A person, existing before there was anything created. Whether in heaven or on earth. We often think of heaven as being everlasting but it too was created by the creator of the ages. Col. 1:16 Every natural thing that is visible to the eye has a mark of His workmanship upon it. The things of the invisible world are also a part of the process of His creation. For instance, the very breath we breath, invisible, yet very tangible and necessary, to all life on this planet. The Lord in the very beginning of man on the earth, breathed into him that invisible breath of life, causing him to live. Gen. 2:7 The nations of the world are likewise in His hands, their aims, their attitudes and their actions are all alike under His control. They are all moving in a direction that will fulfill His purpose and will. The current leadership of this world is under His direct command. Like it or not they will react according to those things which He has proclaimed in His Word. He knew the final things from before the beginning. Rom. 13:1 He performed the act of creation with the view in mind of a perfect church which could become His Bride. His will, shall be done. HE MAINTAINS THE BALANCE OF THE UNIVERSE. The Lord is methodical in all that He does. His is the Lord of perfect order. He is never out of balance or off key. He has said, “I am the LORD, I change not”. Mal. 3:6a. Always the same, unchangeable in all of His ministration to mankind. Heb. 7:24 We may rest assured of equal and proper treatment when coming to Him. Prior to the existence of anything of which we have knowledge, He was, He existed. Therefore these “all things” were brought forth by Him. Their continuance, their order is in His absolute control. Be it summer or winter, the rise and setting of the sun or the constant maintenance of those elements conducive to life on earth, all is in His hands. He is the absolute ruler of the universe. He is the KING over every king and the LORD over every lord. It Is Jesus who is the only Potentate. Eternal, everlasting, ruling over a kingdom that will never pass away. 1 Tim. 6:15 He is triumphant. He is victorious. The book of Revelation presents Him as the great conquering Savior. Defeating all the works of darkness and inaugurating a new kingdom, with the eventuality of a New Heavens and New Earth. He is the KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. Rev. 19:16 He is eternity. Without Him there would be no future for the people of this world. Thank the Lord, our hope is not in this world but in the One who controls it all. Who has prepared for us the most excellent of futures. Undying life is His reward to all who will call upon His name. Although some do not like to admit it, all life, here and in the future is in the power of His decisions. We cannot get away from the fact that we have to breathe to live and He gives us both, breath and life. Acts 17:28 He is the power that controls the vastness of the universe and the life of the tiniest babe. He is Lord over all. Heb. 1:3c THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB 69 A BRIDE BEAUTIFIED BY THE GLORY OF THE LORD. The people of the unveiled face, opened faced, transparent before the Lord. Having no ulterior motives. Living earnestly and honestly before the Lord. Their vision filled with the glory of the Lord as they look into the mirror of the Lord, the word of the Lord. It soon becomes apparent that they have been basking in that glory for it is infectious and catching. A glory that brings the presence of the Almighty in a very real manner. 2 Cor. 3:18 CHANGED. Each step of progression and spiritual growth will bring about a change in our lives. A person cannot be born again [John 3:16] without there being a very clear alteration of their life style. Water baptism, a necessity for the furtherance of our spiritual life is to cause us to touch the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. [Rom. 6:4] There is then another step after following Christ in the waters of baptism. The baptism of the Holy Spirit will most certainly open to us the vast vistas of His glory and power. [Acts 2:1-4.] As the old adage says, “you cant play with fire and not get burned”. So, with the fire of the Holy Spirit, there is a very definite purging of the old carnal nature of man. We are not finished yet, for there is that constant, daily cleansing of the Word. [Eph. 5:26] Let's not be forgetful that we are called to be doers of the Word and not hearers only, turning from the mirror, and straightway forgetting how the glory of the Lord had revealed our true nature and character. [James 1:23] Every step in the Christian life is progressing toward that prize and spiritual goal of being like Jesus. IN HIS IMAGE. There are some things for which Jesus prayed in what is truly the prayer of the Lord Jesus Christ. His prayer was for His very own. He sought their deliverance from worldliness, from the iniquities of this life. It is His desire that His own be as righteous and pure as He is. John 17:16 He knew that the truth of the Word would sanctify and cleanse us. The glory of the Father that had been entrusted into the hands of the Lord Jesus He had passed on to them. The fullness of that prayer was answered on the day of Pentecost. We need not stand afar off and hope for that glory. It has already been delivered to the church and we should partake of it fully. His prayer included a unity of the believers that is akin to that of the Godhead. That is absolute, perfect unity. John 17:22 Love is vital in any marriage. The Bride of Christ will love Him with a Godlike love. True love as can only be found in the Lord. The Spirit of the revelation of the life and nature of Christ is constantly being shown to His own and they respond to it in obedience. They covet the abiding presence of the Lord Jesus and will seek to maintain that blessed union. John 17:26 More than any other generation we are living in the days of the Marriage of Christ and His Church. These are days of preparation for the wedding day is quickly approaching. complete 08:03 21/05/2005 formatting edited eof
